Hi all I am new and am wanting to speak about a feeling of internal vibration I have been having that I get when I wake up in the night, wanted to know of these symptoms ring a bell to anyone

Tamayra Tue 29-Mar-22 12:09:13

I used to get this feeling for years It was very disturbing
I noticed it was always just before a large earthquake happened somewhere on the planet
As an empath I figured I was picking up on Earths vibration
One night I said out load “I’m choosing not to surrogate Earths disturbance anymore”. It stopped & never came back
Bit whacky answer I know but it worked for me

I sometimes get something fitting this description, and on a few occasions recently it has coincided with my having restless legs. I have wondered if the two are linked.

I sometimes have this too. No medical reason has been found for it and treatment for hyperthyroidism has had no effect on it.

As far as I have been able to work out, it occurs for me, either when I have physically done too much hard work, such as digging the garden, or is an allergic reaction to certain things liked smoked fish.

So others who have seen their doctors about it and not been diagnosed with some condition that explains it, or given medicine that helps, might like me want either to steer clear of certain foodstuffs or do less physically hard work.

I gave up caffeine and after a week or so the feeling disappeared. Giving up caffeine was difficult in itself gave me headache for a few days but well worth it .

Theoddora having seen your post on another thread about the recent death of your husband, so sorry for your loss flowers surely one of life's most traumatic events and as such that could have well exacerbated this condition in your case, quite possibly as other have pointed out anxiety could be a contributing factor.

I often think, if only some things we experience had a name then we wouldn't have to explain what I'm sure many of us feel are vague symptoms, variously described here as "buzzing", "shuddering", "vibrations" "fizzing" "internal engine running" "an inner bee" but the fact that quite a few have come to this forum to outline these weird and unpleasant sensations, certainly makes me feel "well not just me then"

I do feel mine present when I'm tired which is often a self perpetuating cycle, since the menopause, poor sleep quality, over tired and never able to attain that elusive good night's sleep. It's a lucky woman imo who passes through the menopause unaffected.

Thanks for the tips appreciated

I sometimes got this. My Gp said it's anxiety. I am now taking a beta blocker and its stopped.

Esmay - mine were every night and so severe I had to start taking Zopiclone to get me through the 'drifting off' phase which was when it always happened. It was definitely caused by stress or anxiety.

Chestnut -I've also had that nasty electric shock feeling .
The first time that it happened I was scared . Now I'm used to it .
It doesn't always happen .

We always called it ‘having a fluffy’ and put it down to stress. My late OH maintained that I had PTSD from my horrible experiences with two bullying bosses at work as I still had nightmares about work even after retirement. The internal shaking is awful but I find talking it through helped. I suffer from sleep apnoea due to PPS which is bad enough but the shaky insides are more stressful. Breathing exercises may help. Good luck.

I’ve had similar shaking feeling twice many years ago.
First time was quite frightening.
Went to GP and she said it was too much caffeine.
I had been drinking very nice but very strong coffee.

I had a vibrating left boob for a few weeks on and off, a while ago. It felt just like I had my mobile down my bra and it was vibrating gently. Very weird. I also get the same sensation in my hips sometimes. But it rarely lasts long and generally just goes as quickly as it came! Just when I start to think I should really ask someone about it, it stops!

I've been getting that over the last couple of months on the right side of my chest. It's different to palpitations, like a car engine ticking over almost, it's very odd. I'm glad it's not just me! I am starting the menopause so it might be linked, I do have an underactive thyroid too.

My husband has this and it maybe related to medication. If so if you are on medication, look at the side effects. He takes statins and blood pressure tablets.

Riggie - I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation too, and get a peculiar fluttering sensation when having an episode, which often happens in the middle of the night. If I think I'm in A fib, I check my pulse and can immediately tell as it's totally irregular and jumpy, which I assume accounts for strange sensations.

Theodora P. I had internal vibration as I was in the process of waking whether in bed or on the settee. It would only last for a few seconds but every time I was waking for months a couple of years ago. I was referred to neurologist who said it was nothing to be worried about and he equated to the sensation you may feel when dropping off to sleep and you suddenly feel like you're dropping off something at speed and it wakes you up. Eventually went away.

Riggie Tue 22-Mar-22 13:02:02

Mine turned out to be paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Which is a heart issue - paroxysmal means it happens randomly and in fact it took a while to be diagnosed as it wasn't doing it whenever I was wired up!!

It's treatable and according to my cardiologist "annoying rather than life threatening" although it can increase stroke risk as you age (but I'm medicated to reduce the risk)

Ramblingrose22 Tue 22-Mar-22 12:35:40

I get a similar sensation in the upper arms or diaphragm when I am having a panic attack.

I call it "fluttering" and it's very weird.

I realise that the OP is talking about something slightly different but I'll keep following this thread to see what others think it may be.

Possibly neck related, cervical spondylosis for example. Have you changed pillows recently?

ReadyMeals Tue 22-Mar-22 12:07:33

I have had this happen but just the once! Pretty alarming at the time but no harm seemed to have been done.

Dearknees1 Tue 22-Mar-22 11:55:37

I suffered from ‘internal vibration ‘ in my 30s when I was going through a period of anxiety/ depression with related insomnia. The only person I mentioned it to was my husband who had no idea what I was talking about. I wish I’d known before now that it’s something other people experience although it seems difficult to identify the cause.

I have checked the NHS info on
rheumatoid arthritis and internal tremors are not part f the symptoms

Basically it is as some have said It feels like a small buzy bee inside you body I have found that if I relax deeply that it goes

I do feel 100 times better after reading these posts

I had that a few weeks ago was going to say it was like I was Buzzing, started after Stomach Pains. Felt dizzy so went and lay on the bed and it went over

VioletSky Tue 22-Mar-22 07:48:39

I get this if I wake in the night. I do have health issues though.

Speak to the doctor and get full bloods and thyroid checks to be safe

Pammie1

Have you been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis ? I have the same type of vibration and when I reported it to the clinic, they said it can be a symptom of the disease or the drugs used to treat it.

That is interesting Pammiel, I have RA treated with Methotrexate and Hydroxychoroquine . I have internal tremors too.
