Still waiting for medication

I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism last November and referred as an emergency 2 week referral to the Endocrinologist, my doctor told me he could not prescribe medication before I’d been seen by them.
After having one appointment cancelled and waiting over 6 months, I was finally seen two weeks ago. I was given a blood test and told I would be prescribed Carbimazole and they would write to my doctor to give the dosage when results of bloods back.
It’s now over two weeks and I’ve checked with doctors and no letter.
I’ve rang the hospital and tried to speak to his secretary but it just rings out for five minutes, then cuts off.
The thyroid problem has given my atrial fibrillation for which I’ve been diagnosed blood thinners and Beta Blockers, I may beable to come off these, when the Carbimazole kicks in.
The symptoms I have are quite bad and I’m so fed up of still not being treated for the illness which has affected my heart, along with other things.
Can anyone suggest what else I can do, to get the dosage off the consultant so I can start being treated?

Can your GP surgery chase it up?

Just a suggestion as I have no experience of this kind of thing.

Good idea Baggs I hadn’t thought of that. I’ve rang to see if any letter has arrived but not asked if they can help.
I’ll try to get through this afternoon.

Good Luck!

I guess all you can do is chase it up with your GP, tell them how ill you feel and ask for their help. I am having huge problems with two different hospital consultants. I feel completely ignored, no follow up letter, no scans, no treatment, nothing. My problems have not been diagnosed or treated. The NHS seems to have imploded completely.

I agree Chestnut, have been having terrible trouble over the past few weeks getting in touch with our surgery. The econsukt has been unavailable the whole time.

Chase this up with your GP but as for the hospitals delay in writing to your GP why don't you contact PALS and ask them to intervene and get things moving?

No practical suggestions, but I had the same diagnoses and the carbimazole did work well, though it took a week or two to kick in. I took it for 18 months. So you can look forward to feeling much better - eventually!

I suggest you write a letter to the consultant who saw you.
I have fond this on occasion and it has got results.
If that doesn't work, my next letter goes to my MP, cc'd to Patient Care Council. But I think the first letter will be all that's needed.

Some years ago I was waiting for test results following a hospital visit; at the time the hospital didn't actually write to the patient as thy do now, just to the GP surgery. I waited weeks and weeks until one day, I ask the GP receptionist to chase matters up..........it emerged that the GP surgery HAD received the report but this was filed with another patients notes instead of mine - and it wasn't someone with the same name either! No one is infallible so I'd ask the GP staff to check this out.

Thanks so much for all your advise, I’ll ask if the Doctor Surgery can help first, then write to the Consultant and drop off by hand with the receptionist where I had the consultation, to make sure they’ve got it.
Then I’m going to contact PALS if I have no joy.
If all else fails, I have a telephone appointment on the 16th July with a nurse from Endocrinology to see how I’m getting along with the medication. ?‍♀️ what a waste of time if I haven’t even been able to take it.

Very frustrating! If other things don't get you your medication soon, perhaps you could contact the nurse.

I’m surprised they’ve left you for so long, Dolly. My dil was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and she was treated with the utmost urgency, because of the possible scary outcomes. I hope you get your meds soon. flowers
