Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!

A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining thanks for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible! smile

How can they? It is not a one/off, it happens each time so we have to keep bumping it up like writing inane rubbish like this.

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Sept-22 16:35:26

Silverlining, they denied that it was happening.
It wasn’t possible.
I didn’t understand how the site worked hmm

FannyCornforth Sun 25-Sept-22 16:36:55

It honestly makes me wonder how many other threads there are like this.
Personally I know of four.
If you aren’t ‘on’ them there is now way of knowing

Good evening g all. Am OK just a little achey still but everything seems to be fine, standing and walking sticks the same. As I said it was my knees that took the brunt of the fall . I have a keysafe outside my back door and always carry my phone with me. I also wear a pendant linked to local helpline. So if I had been alone and couldn't get up I could have summoned help. Thanks for all well wishes from everyone. ??

Sounds like you have prepared Travels and though I hope nothing more happens you have the means to get help if needed. Onward and upward and Take it easy for now.

Just had my 7 week post op check with Consultant.

All good news, I can bin the Crutches, he made me use for 6 weeks, with no excerse, just get muscles repaired, as different approach than last Hip.

I can Drive, pick up things from the floor (he showed me how until I'm confident ) , turn onto both sides in bed and get the high Loo seats returned.
No Physio needed, he told me not everyone needs it. Use a Stick for support if I want too, just be sensible.

I can return to the Gym in about 6 weeks but I can get on the excerse Bike now.
Absolutely thrilled after my disaster of a Hip replacement last time, this has been text book.
I have been fortunate it's been a smooth ride, no problems and my DH has been brilliant.
Hope you Hipsters are getting on well and you journey to recovery is on course.

That’s great news visgirl.
Visgirl What good news.
Very happy for you. Well done.

Aveline Wed 28-Sept-22 16:36:44

That sounds great! Well done.

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Sept-22 12:17:51

Visgirl you are doing so well, just go slowly and soon the entire experience will be a memory.

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Sept-22 12:35:22

This must be a 1st. After I wrote the last about 6 minutes ago, we never touched Active, we stayed on Last Day. How are newbies going to find us if they need reassurance?

Visgir1 Thu 29-Sept-22 12:49:25

Thank you all for your kind comments?
This Active post has been so valuable for information.
Thank you I hope it remains Active for all the good advise within the thread and not lost in some remote section.

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Sept-22 13:16:07

Visgirl a few of us know what happens to this thread so we keep bumping it up so it does not vanish.

silverlining48 Thu 29-Sept-22 16:08:01

Greetings to all hipsters and yes let’s everyone bump a bit because as we have all said it will sink without trace very quickly given it’s hardly ever on Active.
I send greetings fromy balcony overlooking the warm and sunny Mediterranean. First holiday in too many years.
It’s lovely to Be able to swim In a beautiful warm blue sea but I don’t feel As Safe getting into and out of it as before hip hop. A confidence issue probably? but have been walking just not quite as far as usual.
Off out soon for a pre dinner g&t.

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Sept-22 19:02:26

silverlining sounds great but please do not overdo it. Very different abroad if you have an accident.

silverlining48 Thu 29-Sept-22 19:41:58

Yes I am being cautious Charleygirl. Just didn’t expect to feel like this.
It’s not as if the sea is rough either. It’s not ( it’s lovely ? ).

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Sept-22 20:04:53

I am jealous, I would love a paddle in warm salt water. Having an ankle with metal in it and 2 knees replaced, my swimming days are over, apart from the fact I do not possess a bathing suit. I could soon empty the beach though!!!

silverlining48 Fri 30-Sept-22 11:57:14

Is that because of your knees Charleygirl?

silverlining48 Fri 30-Sept-22 11:57:52

Not even
A paddle?

Good morning everyone, Visgirl well done for passing your seven week check with flying colours!

I had mine on Monday and now have photos on my phone of the X-rays they took of my new right hip and pelvis. The thread on the screw going up into the bone in the pelvis is very clear!
When I went in to see the doctor (not my surgeon, one of the surgical team) there was my new hip on the screen.
He said they were keeping an eye on me, and my other hip, so I will be seen again in six months and beyond. That was reassuring.

However, I was somewhat surprised when he said I would have to keep my knee lower than my hip when sitting down for ever and would always have to sleep with a pillow between my knees when sleeping on my side.
He said you won’t be able to put your socks on or tie your shoe laces unless you can manage to put your operated side foot across your other thigh.

When I had time to think about this after my appointment, it all sounded very restricting and rather depressing. As if none of the hip precautions will ever go away. I am hardly going to go mad, I’m always a very cautious person!

A couple of days ago my Physio came on her last visit to bring me a new walking stick, which she adjusted,
and then got me to go for a short walk on the pavement outside.

I mentioned what the doctor had said on Monday. She said you won’t be be able to bend over and pick anything up from the floor, you must always use a grabber. The 90 degree rule will always apply. She then demonstrated that, if I had to lean forwards, I must stretch my operated side straight out at the back, as it were. She told me I would never be able to kneel or go down on the floor, not that I was planning to do either.

I have spent the week feeling somewhat deflated with what seems like all these ‘permanent’ rules. That is why I haven’t felt like posting before.
What about all those bottom shelves, spaces and cupboards in the house. Will they be out of bounds forever? And am I stuck with raised toilet seats forever? Is helpful creaking DH for ever condemned to do all the bending that goes with running a house? The thought of him sorting out my shoe cupboard is doing me no good at all!

I am in need of some reassurance this morning. I thought that after the first twelve weeks, life might start to get crack to normal, Thank you.

Best wishes to everyone on this thread. Pinch, punch, it’s October! Have a good weekend.

iPadGrandma Sat 01-Oct-22 08:44:12

Sorry, ‘crack’ to normal should read ‘back’ to normal!

Aveline Sat 01-Oct-22 08:49:35

Don't let it get you down ipadGrandma. You're out of pain and being well looked after. I suspect that you'll get used to the various restriction and they'll soon just be second nature to you. As a matter of interest did they explain why you can't bend beyond 90 degrees etc?

Charleygirl5 Sat 01-Oct-22 10:55:05

Aveline it is the risk of dislocation. It has horrified me what people on this thread have done and so soon post-operatively.

I have worked with the consultant who operated on Prince Philip and Craig R-H and I know she covers her face when she sees him shimmying down the stairs on Strictly. I am not certain if he had a full or partial hip replacement.

SusieB50 Sat 01-Oct-22 11:12:24

Good morning all , ipadGrandma I’m surprised that you have been told you will never be able to have unrestricted movement. But as we have discovered on this chat, every consultant / area seems different. You are still very early on in the recovery though. I was never told that I would always have restrictions. After nearly six months I feel happy kneeling and bending now but always have a chair or stool to help me up . I saw the physio attached to our surgery yesterday to get a referral for exercise on prescription at our council gym . My stamina is still not great and I run out of energy if I walk any distance. My vision is not great and with the darker days I am wary of walking long distances . It’s not the cost of the gym that is quite cheap, but I need advice using equipment! I hope to hear soon from them but away for a couple of weeks in October . She also measured my legs , still 2 cm difference which explains my waddle. She told me it’s the muscles that still needs strengthening ?‍♀️. So hope the gym will sort that out .

iPadGrandma Sat 01-Oct-22 11:27:44

•Aveline• No Explanation given re 90 degree precaution. That was the Physio talking. There is nothing unusual about me, or my new hip, to the best of my knowledge.
I think everyone is just covering themselves.

silverlining48 Sat 01-Oct-22 11:46:46

Like Susie I am 5.5 months post op and still struggling with socks and so on.
I don’t understand why you habe been told ‘forever’ unless they have told you why.
Chin up you are on your way to recovery and I still do the courtsey bend with bad leg sticking out. Habit I suppose. smile
