Hello! ?
Welcome to ? 2!

A huge thank you and well done to Silverlining thanks for creating the first thread (which I’ll link to shortly)
It was an amazingly successful thread; which was remarkable considering that most of the time it was invisible! smile

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Oct-22 08:59:16

Thanks for resurrecting it-that was on today's list. That is if you can find it anytime soon.

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 09:11:56

We are dropping off the Active list fast but at least we are there. For now anyway.

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Oct-22 09:47:42

Oh no silverling! I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope that you feel much better soon thanks

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Oct-22 09:52:32

I had my op middle of June, and I’m finding it slow going mobility wise.
I did think that this would be the case.
I can’t walk more than 2,000 steps without feeling the worse for wear.
It’s like everything isn’t used to being used; which it isn’t.
My feet and knees get the brunt of it. I even get muscle aches in my stomach.
But I’m not complaining, I’m really not. I’m pain free, other than those aches. And best of all, the agonising nerve pain has totally gone.
My life is slowly getting back to normal smile

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Oct-22 09:53:16

I meant 2,000 steps in an entire day.

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 09:53:53

Thanks Fanny. I thought I had dodged it for all this time.
I am doing a lot of ? sneezing and am rather ? sweaty.
Had a week of things to do places to go and all cancelled ?, still in bed but hope I get back to good health soon.

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 10:02:08

I will be 6 months post op on Wednesday and though I can walk further and I am not in pain either, but sometimes feel a bit achy too.
Certainly did earlier on and am sure with practice (to Aldi?)you will soon be much better.
I am starting hydrotherapy next week all being well which I was as able to self refer to the hospital direct. Also plan to do aquacise too. Water supports the body so there’s no real strain. I can walk but my flexibility isn’t that great but no pain has to be the best.

Just been confirmed after a 31 week wait to see the consultant that I am to also get a brand spanking new hip,and to end the awful bone on bone grinding from my knackered old one.
May I ask how long you have had to wait for your operations,my consultant said a year, but not sure if I was being humoured or not.
Very nice man though .

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 10:21:16

Good news downtoearth you are in the system. Hurrah!
Hope it’s not too long to wait it probably depends on how bad your hip is but it will probably be a wait. I am sure you will find out more when you see the consultant.
It really is a life changing operation with a reasonably fast level of recovery and more straightforward than a new knee. Do keep an eye on our hip hop thread which has lots of helpful information from on it though for some unknown reason it doesn’t often get onto the Active list so look on the health forum and you will see it there. Any questions someone will know,
Let’s see if this posts now. .....

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 10:22:13

Let’s try again..smile

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Oct-22 10:22:59

Right at the top! ?

Visgir1 Mon 10-Oct-22 10:42:41

DTE.. Well done your on the list..
They are trying to get the lists down fast (I still work in NHS hospital) my Dept for example is doing truckloads of overtime more staff on weekend working.

I waited just 7 months between my knee then my Hip but x2 major op's was for my benefit for a better recovery.

So hopefully it will be a bit quicker, you can always be cheeky every now and then phone the Orthopaedic waiting list team, just ask how long?
Make your call a bit lighthearted you never know they might give you a cancellation?
Good luck..
And hope this post adds to the list.

downtoearth Mon 10-Oct-22 10:46:05

Thanks silverlining ,I was told at the appontment that all pre op assessments are done online now,and I am to have a blood test this week,to check on iron, vitamins, etc is it policy to still do and ECG before surgery.
I shall read this thread and add to I am watching.
Looking forward as the time comes closer to chatting with you all.smile

downtoearth Mon 10-Oct-22 10:54:54

Thanks visgirl I will certainly check now and again.
Can anyone advise if OTs come to access your home before or after, although I live in a GF flat,I live alone, and from reading the leaflets I have been given,my bath, has a overbath shower, and my tiolet, bed and furniture are going to be difficult as you have to keep your hip above the line of your knees.
Am I overthinking.
Thanks for any answers or advice in advancesmile

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 11:35:40

I didn’t have an OT visit so bought a couple of aids myself from a charity shop, a Walker and a commode which doubled as a toilet frame and you will find a long handled shoe horn and litter grabber very helpful. I didn’t actually use the Walker much but once o was getting into the shower it helped when I got in and out of the cubicle. The only thing I was given were 2 sticks and a raised toilet seat.
People on here live alone and I have lots of admiration for them
Because the first couple of weeks are hard.
Have a look at this and the previous thread part 1 which I began when I wAs exactly at the place you are now. Right at the start. I found a lot of help and support here as I know you will. Welcome to the hip hop club smile

silverlining48 Mon 10-Oct-22 11:43:10

Others on here did get the OT visit and plenty of equipment. Think you can request a community OT yourself. Let them know you live alone and if there is a friend or family who can be with you for the first few days this will help. I had the devil of a job lifting my legs when getting into bed and was grateful my dh was able to help.

downtoearth Mon 10-Oct-22 12:32:25

Thankyou silverlining I will look at part 1 also.
I am sure my grandaughter will stay with me,I have the lo g shoehorn already,it is i valuable.
I have two walking sticks I use when pain and walking is diffucult.
Will look fo a rollater, and litter picker,I have had a financial assesment from Aids and Adaptations,to have a wet room installed as I am social housing, this has a waiting list just for the OT visit of a year.
Just being proactive and aware is helpful so thankyou for the advice.

FannyCornforth Mon 10-Oct-22 12:58:46

Hello and welcome to the club downtoearth!
There is a link to the first Hipster Thread in the opening post smile

downtoearth Mon 10-Oct-22 16:01:49

Thanks Fanny

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Oct-22 21:46:57

downtoearth if you feel your house is okay and you could manage perhaps ring the consultant's secretary and say that definitely you could accept a cancellation.

I have had 2 knees done, but the same difference, both major surgery. I did not have an OT visit my house either time. In fairness I did not need one because with my background I knew what I needed.

I will start another thread tomorrow re your needs but if you would prefer I am happy to PM you.

downtoearth Tue 11-Oct-22 10:28:19

Thankyou Charleygirl, and thankyou for your PM

Charleygirl5 Wed 12-Oct-22 08:44:19

silverlining48 Wed 12-Oct-22 09:59:06

Another try ...

silverlining48 Wed 12-Oct-22 10:37:49

..... but it hasn’t worked

Charleygirl5 Wed 12-Oct-22 12:04:04

silverlining I think we should start to accept our place here.
