Are you wearing a mask re Covid

I wear mine in crowded places and shops. Although I did go to a concert a week or so ago and forgot. There's a lot of exaggeration and misinformation on some of these posts. The media are at it again. Don't believe everything (especially the Headlines) that you see on-line from the media. Check with ONS, Zoe Covid App or Dr John. The hospital admissions have done up but mostly people with Covid not because of it. The ICU hasn't gone up much at all.
Yes its more infectious but they are still checking whether it really does attack the lungs more its not been confirmed yet. Also Yes, it does seem to be evading previous infections. The vaccine was never supposed to prevent you catching it just to make it less likely that you will end up in hospital or "unalive".

It hasn't felt very mild to me this week. I have felt like I was dying. Although I realise how much some people have suffered and mine is mild in comparison.

DH and myself tested pos for Covid a week ago. It was like flu for myself, I felt very ill for 3 dys and still have headache, cold and extreme tiredness. It has meant cancellation of operation. I had stopped wearing a mask in supermarkets. We're back to wearing them.

Still wear a mask outside my house. I work for a GP so wear one all the time at work patients have stopped though

One of our newspaper columnists here had just visited London and remarked that absolutely the only people wearing masks are American tourists
That might explain why one in ten Londoners has Covid. And it’s not peaked yet!

Good post, MaggsMcG. Media do seem a love a climate of fear, what might be called a catastrophic outlook. Sensationalism sells.

Another thing that might make a difference is how good one's immune system is. One would think so given that immuno-suppressed people have been offered further jabs.

Had worn a mask in supermarket etc but then caught Covid ( had had 4 jabs) Now I don't wear one unless it is required e.g. hospital appointments

I have been immunosuppressed for the past seven months so have not stopped wearing a mask when out of the house. When diagnosed, I decided to restrict social interaction and have only seen friends outside, cancelling indoor plans/events etc.

Yesterday we travelled by train to see our granddaughter in a concert. It was a huge decision as to whether we went or not. We wore masks on the train but only saw one other passenger similarly garbed.

At the concert, all the 'children' (they are 18!) who were leaving the orchestra had their names called out and were applauded. Out of 25 leavers, approximately six were not present as they had Covid, our grandson amongst them.

It's obvious to me that Covid has not released its grip and is still very much a force to be reckoned with yet the public concensus seems to be that it has ended.

If others choose not to wear masks, so be it as it is my responsibility to take care of myself. However, non-mask wearers may have Covid but be completely asymptomatic (as has been the case with my granddaughter, twice) and are unwittingly merrily spreading Covid wherever they go.....

Covid hasn't finished with us yet.....

My brother and sister in law have got Covid again. Think they caught whilst visiting her mom in a nursing home. They had masks but at least this time they are triple vaccinated.

First time they caught it was 2 years ago before they could get the first Covid jab. Both seriously ill for 6 weeks. My brother felt so ill he dictated his will on his phone as he didn't think he would see morning. It sent my sister in law's MS into over drive and she never got back to how she was.

They both just feel very rough at the moment. Hopefully they won't get any worse.

Candelle you are right Covid like flu is here to stay and will only mutate like the flu virus. We will need jabs for both every year.

I still do my lateral flow test every Saturday. I have to be careful because of my health problems.

I’m still wearing an FFP2 mask in shops, health settings, pharmacies, public transport and anywhere crowded. So far my husband and I haven’t had Covid and we still want to avoid it if possible. He has bad asthma and I have recently had cancer so just don’t want to risk Covid if we can. Most of our friends and family have had it in the recent BA4/5 wave but there is still loads going around in Scotland. No one knows yet what the effects of getting it multiple times will be and some friends have had it twice already. In addition the chance of getting long Covid is not worth the risk. On the other hand, we may catch it from our granddaughters who we’ll see at the weekend and that is a risk that we’ll take.

I’m on day 6 of Covid and it has been truly awful. Prior to that I was wearing a mask when shopping and had had all my jabs. I caught it from my DH who caught it from his retirement meal out at a restaurant. I shall continue to wear a mask (even if I’m in the minority in my area) once I’ve recovered, as I never want to feel so poorly again.
I get that people want to ‘get their lives back’ but IMO there are those that need to think of it from another viewpoint rather than just their own.

Yes. I wear a FFP2 as I can’t manage the FFP3. Had a bone density scan this morning and everyone is still asked to wear them in Scottish hospitals. I am glad. As I have ME and my husband has heart failure. I only meet people outdoors.. So many are getting covid now. I expect it is inevitable really but I will continue doing my best to avoid it. It is nice for other people that they can have more life. Most are quite good about being considerate when they are with me. One old duck was coughing away with her mask pulled down at the hospital this morning.,But the chairs were distanced and hopefully she has a chronic cough rather than covid.

Some people are complacent, a number surprisingly on here! I’m due to have a hip op in 2 weeks and certainly don’t want that postponed if I can avoid it. DS1 had covid and is now suffering long covid which is horrific normally an outgoing, life and soul of the party type he now goes into utter panic being left alone and I mean hysterical panic. He can’t work and can’t go into a supermarket even with his wife. He went solo around the world twice so not in anyway introverted by nature. I’ve cried buckets over him it’s just so sad.

Yes - have been and will continue to do so as have various health conditions and reacted badly to vaccination. I wear the proper medical mask now though if I am indoors. My concern is knowing that there are people with active covid out and about in public. Friend of mine was out and was shocked when she met a couple and the husband said "I won't come too close, I have Covid". She just said "Right, I am off" and went as she can't risk Covid either. Most people may be fine catching Covid, but you don't know if you will be the unlucky one and frankly it isn't worth the risk.

IMO there are those that need to think of it from another viewpoint rather than just their own.

I’m so sorry to hear that. The Russian roulette aspect of this virus is the most frightening thing about it. I hope your son gets better. It’s as if people like him have been totally forgotten

Had Covid twice AFTER Three jabs……while wearing masks and isolating when asked ….. so , no more masks and no more jabs.

Professor Tim Spector is advising people to wear masks again. His ZOE App data is always a week ahead of the ONS one ( even though they cost more and the government have pulled all of his funding).Some countries are asking people to wear masks again (not here, though: too busy dealing with all the sleaze allegations!).

NO!! I never wear a mask. Covid is here to stay and since we have the vaccine we should get back to normal. We can't live like this forever. It's detrimental to mental health. If you are vaccinated and catch covid you will not end up in hospital. Let's start living again.

I believe several people who are vaccinated have been hospitalized.
