A friend that has just had covid for the 2nd time has been much sicker than her first time.
She's not yet 40, so still young. Symptoms were respiratory this time, even coughing up blood. Whereas last time, she was just vaguely 'off'.

Current covid variant symptoms
(63 Posts)I read a while back that a new variant attacks deep down into lungs?
Not sure if it is spreading, or even in existence, but of course it is quite possible with a virus that constantly changes.
I've just tested negative after nearly 2 weeks of feeling grim. Initially, I had the most dreadful headache, aches and pains, a high temperature and very sore throat. Surprisingly, the cough didn't kick in until day 3 and it was dry and tickly to start with. It turned chesty after about another 3 days. On the whole I would say the cough was the least of my symptoms.
I think it's almost impossible to catorgarise the covid symptoms. The little so and so seems to have so many tricks up its sleeve and no two people seem to experience them the same.
If she is coughing up blood need to contact doctor ASAP to be on the safe side bless her , hope she has a quick & full recovery very soon
Just looked on nhs website ... said important to check this out ... apologies if she has
She's mostly better now, but still very tired etc. I know her family were very casual about C19 before. Which was reinforced by not being particularly ill first time round. She has been a lot more cowed by it this time. Isolated away from her children.
I've just finished having Covid and it was much worse than I expected - 2 weeks to test negative.
Friends had said it was just a sniffle and feeling a bit off for a few days but it really affected my breathing and made me feel as if I'd run a marathon and then been kicked in the chest by a horse! A weird sort of old fashioned flu mixed with bronchitis and exhaustion.
I think the latest variety must go more for the lungs.
Oh bloody hell. Will this ever end
I’m literally sick to death of being worried sick about DH catching it.
for all those suffering or worrying
Fed up with it, sounds horrendous, some of my family had it, but not been very Bad at all, perhaps they had a milder dose.
And
Sorry to gatecrash your post OP
but I need to use the bus today, is it wise to wear a mask? Normally go in the car ..thank you x
Yes, of course it’s wise to wear a mask
I just tested positive this morning but think I have probably had it since Friday without realising it. I’ve had tummy ache and a burning sensation when I wee.
Last night however I had the shivers in bed, although I was hot, and a bad headache so tested this morning and low and behold was positive.
I have since read on line that cystitis symptoms are now being linked to covid .
I have a mild cough ( at the moment) and no sore throat to speak off.
I’ve just had Covid, for the first time, think I’ve been very lucky, I had been dreading it because of my age, weight, bp, asthma, etc, but I was just mildly flu-y ill for five days, testing positive from day 1, then tested negative on day 7. Still got a dry cough, but have had a second negative test on day 9. Was exhausted and flu-y initially. Again v lucky, I stayed in bed, had meals brought to me by DH. Did a little gentle gardening again on day 5. I think this is an opportunistic and VERY odd virus. I had let my guard down re masks etc, so plan to wear masks in shops, etc. Also planning to go to my book group in friends garden this evening. Hope everyone else recovers as quickly as I did ???
I’m just getting our covid for the second time. This time round I’ve felt so I’ll and spent 3 days in bed. Thankfully now I’m on the mend 1st time round it certainly wasn’t this bad nor were the side effects of the jabs.
I’ve just had it for the 1st time, to my knowledge. It was like a bad cold in many ways, and it’s left me washed out. It’s made me think about booking the flu jab. I really don’t want to succumb to any lergs if I can possibly help it. I still think mask wearing indoors should be mandatory again, it’s such an easy thing for people, who can wear one, to do.
Thought I was getting a cold on Thursday, but started feeling achy, so tested yesterday. Yup, positive. I mostly feel tired, with a rattly cough.
I've avoided it so far, because my DH was asthmatic, so I was very careful (since lost him for unrelated reasons) I've probably not been so careful since he died.
Thank you for all info. I have had most symptoms, some severe, over several months. Doc gave steroids for 7 days - and nearly finished me off! Pharmacist told me to take extra Vit D once. So now going for that along with blended juice drinks of beetroot, apple, celery, carrot, ginger, lemon. Stay safe all.
It’s def not like flu ! I had random symptoms on different days recently, (3x vacc.), finishing with a bout of 24 hour diorrhea- terrible behind the nose type of sore throat. I posted on another thread re something that has flared up to do with the small intestine ( Mesenteric panniculitis) . I of course have been researching (I work in that field) and it seems there are global reports of this condition linked to people who have never had anything wrong before. Numbers are too small to be consistent however. Truly odd. I only tested negative 10 days in husband 14 days in. Left with fatigue 4 weeks later and pain from the above.
It’s good to talk about it though ...
The more I see of people's symptoms the more puzzled I get. I caught it December 2020, ended up in ICU but never actually felt ill. I started coughing on Christmas day, tested on Boxing day. Mild cough stopped after 2 0r 3 days so I was very surprised when the results were positive. I simply lost energy and on 3 Jan I couldn't summon up the energy to have a shower I dialled 111 and they booked an ambulance.
I remember thinking it was all a storm in a teapot but I had covid pneumonia and narrowly missed being put on a ventilator.
The worst things for me were the arterial cannulas, the atrocious diarrhoea caused by the medication and the boredom as I didn't have the energy to do anything, not even reading.
I feel desperately sorry for those who are very ill, I remember hearing the dreadful coughs of the other patients and thanking my lucky stars that it wasn't me.
With so many different and varying symptoms it's so hard for the medical profession to handle. So many questions that they're unable to answer. Like why can I still not walk more than 100m without sounding like a steam train? And why do I need so much sleep?
It's going to be many years before they can fully understand the virus in it's many forms let alone treat it, and the associated long covid, effectively.
Strorm in a teacup!!
Both myself & Mrs AmberSpyglass are fully vaxxed - I came down with it at the end of the week before last and she followed suit. Very scary since she’s clinically vulnerable and I’ve been going to pretty extreme lengths to keep her away from it, but work travel over the past few months has made that impossible.
Luckily mine was a very mild case, and hers doesn’t seem too bad either but I do feel guilty!

Me too, my DH has a dodgy heart and is very casual about avoiding infection
COVID positive here, too.
Am immunosuppressed so it was worrying but the NHS service worked well and I was able to quickly have an antiviral Infusion in hospital on day two.
My symptoms are breathlessness, very sore throat (voice disappeared - husband delighted!) horrible headache and lethargy. Temperature spiked up for 24 hours' but is slowly returning to normal.
I passed this on to Mr C whose temperature was worrying for a day or two plus other similar symptoms to me but we are grateful for nothing worse.
We know exactly from whom and where we caught Covid but there's no point in being cross now.
I was shocked to be told by a doctor that there's no need for us to isolate! Apparently, one can be newly diagnosed and merrily shedding Covid everywhere, perfectly legally.
Those who wanted us to 'get back to normal ' have won the battle (as it obviously doesn't matter who becomes slighty ill, quite sick or who dies).
You haven’t had to isolate by law since February Candelle it is nothing new
Like other sicknesses we may have we have to use a bit of common sense and stay in for a while. It would impossible to enforce the law when you no longer have to test or report it
I believe some countries like Germany and France may try to inforce isolation but their rates are much higher than ours
Glad you are recovering
I've had it from last Tuesday, but the positive line very faint this morning. I'd the most hateful headache with all the usual flu type symptoms and I've lost my taste, but nothing like your friend. This is my first time getting it and hearing different stories have been really worried catching it, but with different variants you don't know what you will get. I've friends, the whole family really sick with it and the father is fainting when he gets out of bed.
I was being careful, wearing my mask, washing hands, etc, but the bloomin thing still got me. I'm isolating, I'll do a test tomorrow and after today's result I think it will be negative, well I hope.
