I didn't have much appetite the first week. OK now.
Will get the stitches out on Thursday. Havnt had much swelling.
Taking anticoagulant, Naproxen as don't like the Codeine, and Paracetemol.
Nearly 2 weeks on, not feeling too bad, leg a bit stiff but had right TKR in February so wonder how I would have been with only the right TKR?
Take a day at a time, listen to your body and don't compare yourself to others. We will all get there!

Susytish…..I’ve been told to expect some swelling and soreness tomorrow which will be day 5.
I went up and down the stairs a couple of times today and wandered round a bit with my walker.
I’m taking an anticoagulant pill and Omeprazole every morning with Paracetamol and Codeine X4. I’ve been feeling a bit sick and not felt like eating at all. I expect it’s the Codeine.
DH is being very kind and patient.

Congratulations. You feel better slowly, just have to listen to your body , do the exercises, drink plenty of water, walk a bit.
I was given a commode by Occupational Health so don’t have far to go from bed.
Sleeping in spare bedroom so don’t disturb OH.
Also given a leg grabber from them which is better than the dressing gown belt I used after my knee surgery in February.

Hi Susitish….you’re a week ahead of me. I had my THR on Friday evening. I came home yesterday pm. Had a few painful trips to the loo last night as my leg hurt so much, it took me ages to get out of bed as my leg hurt so much, not so bad getting back into bed. Managed to get downstairs for a few hours today and getting round very well with my walker.

While I keep seeing the same posts never dropping off active, posts on this thread never seem to get on it .

I think there are always boggles susy . I used to feel I was sitting on a golf ball a lot of the time. I felt something hard but though it can still happen 18 months post op, it is fine.

Feeling a bit better, or maybe getting used to it. Area around knee feels weird so maybe hip having affect on that.

I felt numbness on the site if the surgery and had a few tingles, pins and needles in other parts of my leg but not numbness all over. See how you are tomorrow and maybe call the office of the person who operated. Just to put your mind at rest,

Did anyone have numbness in their operated leg after hip replacement?
Suddenly today, 10 days after surgery, my leg feels some numbness all over the leg. I had TKR in February so that might not be helping.
I hope I haven’t tried to do too much as I have pottered around, as didn’t feel too bad.
It could be part of the healing process, just hope nothing serious.

"Silverlining48" Thank you so much for asking! I am a week in and not doing too bad. Getting up and dressed, walking in the house, resting. Hubs doing a grand job (again!) as he did after TKR in February. Problem with the painkillers as made me very lightheaded. Rang hospital and said OK to change to what I was taking before.
It is totally different to how the knee recovery was. That was physio straight away, this is different.
I had the TKR privately, paid for by my wonderful family, the hip was NHS GP referral to the same private hospital and same surgeon. I feel very fortunate.

My knee surgeon grumbled at me, said x-rays showed I should have seen him two years earlier. After hearing my explanation of the steps it had been insisted I follow - x-rays, physio, exercises, x-rays, gym class, more physio, another x-ray, before referral to MSK where I was referred for surgery - he was amazed, had no idea. I’m about to begin the process again for the other knee, wonder if anything will have changed.

Susytish how are you getting on? Still very early but every day is one day closer to ..not having to sleep on your back and…finishing those daily injections ( if you are doing them).

As for waits it’s possible to get referred to other hospitals, sometimes private hospitals , on the nhs which can offer earlier appointments. It’s worth the question.

Where I live, people are referred to a stand alone unit at Epsom hospital, they only do hips, knees and shoulders, this is why waiting list times are relatively short. When I had my hip done there in 2019 I only waited two months after seeing the consultant.

Starting the journey all over again with my other hip,awaiting doctors referral for another Xray on 2nd hip.
My first THR took around 18 months,longest part was waiting 32 weeks for consultation at hospital,waited 6 months from being on list.

Maybe it is quicker to get a knee done than a hip?
I kbow someone who was told waiting list is 18 months.

Went to SWLEOC this morning to see consultant, yes I do need a knee replacement. He said that the wait was about three months, looking forward to Christmas !!

Good to hear it’s over and done with. Recovering is usually faster than knees so give it a week or two. A little at a time and let’s both try to avoid any further tumbles.

Had my right THR yesterday! Feels different to the knee, which was done in February, but early days.
Managed to get from bed to loo with the walker a couple of times today. Hoping I am now on the road back to life with new knee and hip!

Sorry all hipsters I haven’t been on G/net much as have had family staying. silverlining thanks for asking all healed well until I fell over again in the street whilst out on a jaunt with my friend with our bus passes ! Again banged my face but at least I know I have strong bones as nothing broken again . So I have bought a hiking stick and it’s great , I feel much more secure. My osteopath has also sent me some balance exercises that I’m attempting but find very difficult. Sorry your toes are still sore still . What a motley crew we are !
