Thank you again ladies - I’m glad to see that at least I have managed to get this topic in active. I’m with you both that eyes peeled on the ground is the only way - the pavements are a real challenge. I am in a real quandary about op or no op and think I might see a physiotherapist to help me decide. At the moment I feel it is probably safest to go ahead with the hip replacement. In the meantime the sun is shining so DH and I are off to enjoy a walk by the sea while I still can.

Ask the physio what the state of your hip is because it is not going to get any better. I would be inclined to give the surgery a lot of thought.

There are lots of hints and tips post surgery on here so good luck- we are always available.

I was amazed at how quickly I recovered after my new hip. Being able to walk without pain was such joy. No regrets at all.

I know it’s more straightforward than replacing knees.

It has been so helpful chatting to you both and I do appreciate you making time for me. I am finding it a really tough decision but I think that like me you are both coming to the opinion that having a new hip is the best course of action. Hopefully the physio will help me to feel confident in that choice.

I am sure a chat with a physio will help you decide. Or your gp?
I have a friend with a really painful knee. She can hardly walk but will not get it checked out. She’s only just 70 far too young to put up with the pain for the rest of her life, but .....up to her, I have done my best.

Fun2Read I can see your dilemma regarding whether or not to go ahead with your planned hip replacement operation as you are pain free.

A difficult decision which I have no experience of as my hip pain, once started, never went away until I had the operation, gosh, nearly two years ago now!
Mine, like the vast majority was completely successful.

Honestly in your position, even though I can understand your hesitance, I would go ahead with the operation.
Yes, nobody undergoes surgery lightly, but given the current situation with NHS waiting lists, if you turn this down you could be waiting a very long time if the pain returns.

I think you are right JenniferEccles. Putting the operation off now could mean I am waiting a very long time for another date. I am planning to go ahead even though I have done 10000 steps today, at a very steady pace, without any pain. You ladies are great. Thank you so much for calming me down when I was very confused and stressed.

Saw the consultant surgeon today. 6 weeks post THR.
All good apart from still having a fair amount of bruising. Hematoma to give it the correct name. Not painful but a bit uncomfortable and sometimes prickly sensation. He wants to see me again in 2 weeks.
Has anyone else had bruising for this long?

It is major surgery snd i read somewhere it’s the closest thing to amputation, so bruising is inevitable.
I don’t think I had much bruising but have plenty of flesh in that area so maybe that was the reason.
Glad all is well and hope it reduces by next time you see the doctor. I am sure it will be.

Hey we are at no 1, at last!

silverlinimg please do not blink or you will miss it. I have no idea what happens to it but there again, a lot passes this birdbrain by.

Had total knee replacement yesterday, they send most people home who have had the op early in the day, however I felt t very faint when I stood up. I'm now on a ward and I think the physios will try again later. I had the same reaction when I had my hip done four years ago.

Hope you feel ok soon, I had my op 18 months ago and felt s Bit light headed too ,would imagine it’s fairly common.
I thought I was discharged quickly 36 hours post op but same day is something else.
Do keep in touch and though you know the ropes we are here if you need any need anything,

Sorry I missed yours is s knee op. Mine was a hip hop.
Won’t be long before you are home, bit the shouldn’t discharge you till you are feeling better

Please do not faint but after my last knee op in 2018 I was in for around 9 days. Although no doubt a long waiting list there was no A7E department.

I think a lot of us were in hospital for 10 days when we had our babies. I had a lovely rest. Now it’s out the same day.

Discharged today, staying with my DD for a week or so as DH doesn't feel he can manage, I think it's quite a good idea! My surgeon was wonderful, he came to see me several times after the op. I will go back to the unit for physio, and keep up with exercise in the meantime. I'm quite sore but glad it's over!

That’s good news, take notice of instructions and use ice if swollen. It’s a day at a time, but your journey starts here. Go girl. 🧒

I have a few words I would like to say to DH! The poor petal cannot cope- I have had both knees replaced at different times and managed okay on my own without thankfully the likes of him!

You will be much better off with your DD. Medically you are being cared for well, it is great now it is all over and although it is painful now, even by Christmas you will be feeling so much better.
