Out of no-where, hit me like a hurricane on Boxing Day.

Any other sufferer out there?

Here's an article dealing with the issue of why we are all so unwell at the moment. One point made was that some vaccinated people may test negative for Corona virus when they are positive. But lots of other relevant points. Worth a look.

Could it be all the mask wearing and social distancing has really messed up people's immune systems?

We were saying exactly this too!

How exactly would it do that?

On the other hand, there is an increasing amount of evidence that being infected with Covid affects the immune system, which makes people more susceptible to being infected with other viruses.

…and meant to ask does anyone use one of those oxymeters (I think they’re called). My reading has been lowest at 95 but jumps around to 97/98. Heart rate usually in the 70s or occasional 80s.

I too am suffering. Started with sneezing and extremely runny nose. Then sore throat ish then coughing. Just thought it was post nasal drip but now very phlegmy and gone from cream to green. Got amoxicillin from gp over the phone but unsure if doing any good. At present it’s moved back into my head and sinuses and seems like ear tubes. Am better up and moving about than lying in bed hence this message at 4.43 ! Fed up now as have had other problems prior - this isn’t flu am convinced. Keeping out of an and e though on the premis of mixing with sick people…. And the waits. I was there a few weeks ago with uncontrolled pain for something else and waited in the corridor for 6 hours after been given morphine and then unmonitored and told someone will find me. Terrible working conditions. The floor cleaner had to get me water and help me to the loo.
Has anyone else been prescribed antibiotics but feel they’re not particularly doing anything ?

The only reason I didn't phone the Gp in the middle of it was that I kept over sleeping and they mainly only help you if you phone up at 8.30am.

One night I fell asleep wheezing and thought I could die, but was too tired to do anything about it. Taking lots of vitamins and eating as healthily as possible. Still resting. What a rubbish holiday. Back to work soon!

My 92 Yr old FinL has been struggling since Christmas Day. Antibiotic to Antibiotic still trying to care for him but days seem to be getting longer and harder...Good luck x

Greciangirl Fri 30-Dec-22 22:42:59

P.s.
I can’t believe how many of you grans and partners, family’s etc are still mixing and met up over Christmas.
Obviously feeling very unwell.

This is another Covid strain.!!
We have to be careful.

dlizi4 Fri 30-Dec-22 22:35:56

Unjabbed and floored for most of the last few months for those who think it is related. It's not. I have an immune system also

Greciangirl Fri 30-Dec-22 22:33:52

As most of your covid rests are coming back negative, it sounds like a covid mutation which is obviously covid.
Of course, thinking you don’t have covid, and still mixing freely, it’s spreading to your nearest and dearest.

Maybe we should all be offered more vaccines.
It’s up to the government to tackle this, but I get the feeling they are ignoring us now. They seem to think covid has gone away. That’s why they are allowing Chinese people into the country knowing that there is a huge covid wave going on.
They are not required to test before or after entering this country.

Deja Vue anyone?

There are some unvaccinated folk who cannot wait to point the finger at those who are vaccinated and still got ill. I've had all my covid and flu vaccinations but still caught this lurgy. The other way of looking at this is, it could have been worse if I was not vaccinated.

I lost my sense of smell and taste, congested lungs, wheeze, fluey... been ill for just over a week but turning a corner now. The best medicine has been Manuka honey and lemon juice drinks (home made) or Lemsip. We also googled how to cough up plegm effectively and steamed our airways regularly to open them up. We're both getting better gradually now and the mucus we're coughing up is a whitish color. We kept an eye on what we were coughing up and if it had been green or brown tinged we would have contacted the Dr straight away. We also gargled with salt and used a saline mix to wash out sinuses. We were really unwell, but avoided the Gp.

I'm sorry for those who are still suffering, it's a horrible illness.

My husband and I watched videos about how to do physio to loosen mucus from lungs. We are getting better on our own with healthy foods and natural ways without prescription medication.

The "unjabbed" are not just fine! Many of them have died.

There is also increasing evidence that Covid attacks the immune system and makes people more susceptible to non-Covid infections, so it's lunacy to ignore the risks of catching Covid multiple times.

Reluctantnanna Fri 30-Dec-22 21:46:52

I've been ill since Christmas Day 4pm and still recovering now. Ruined my plans.

growstuff Fri 30-Dec-22 21:46:32

I have an immune system too! What a weird comment!

It’s the Jab, weakened people’s immune systems so they catch everything going.

Strange how it’s the vaccinated getting Covid whilst the unjabbed are just fine.

Yes, I know most of you disagree but do some research. Check the yellow card which shows how many deaths and illnesses have been caused by the Vaccine._

But are they? I don't know anyone who's unvaccinated.

I knew someone would come out with this sooner or later. Also, if we already had it theres not much we can do.

I’m not vaccinated, never had covid, never wore a mask. In the very best of health, no coughs colds etc. I still have an immune system.

blue25 Fri 30-Dec-22 20:50:23

Same here. My GP thinks this is covid but a new strain that isn’t being picked up on tests, so be careful around GC who ‘just have a cold.’

My partner & I both had this dreadful lurgy 2 weeks before Xmas. His chest pains were so bad I worried he was having a heart attack! We were 70 miles from home in a Premier Inn for the night. We came home a few hours early and dosed ourselves with honey n cider vinegar in hot water, which always cures even bad sore throats for us. So with the sore throats gone after a couple of days (or less) we were left with constant hacking coughs and gallons of runny catarrh - Yuk! . After a week or so I decided to rub the soles of my feet with Vick! An idea I found on-line. After 3 nights my cough had greatly improved and my catarrh had also lessened so both are no longer a serious problem at nights. Both have also virtually disappeared during the day, so after around 2 weeks we both feel much better. 😀😀. So if you are still suffering, I would highly recommend honey and cider vinegar for any sore throat and rubbing Vick on my feet certainly helped my cough etc. A couple of days in bed and several lots of paracetamol also helped! Happy Healthy New Year to you all. 🤗🤗🤗 x

My daughter has just texted me to say that she has had to be prescribed inhalers, steroids and antibiotics as she is in such a state. It really seems quite horrible.

Lovetravel Fri 30-Dec-22 19:57:46

Another one for the lurgy club. Came down with this 2 weeks ago. Hubbie the day before me. Started feeling generally ill flu symptoms, severe shivering just couldn’t get warm. Lost taste and smell. Covid tests all negative. We are both fully vaccinated both flu and Covid made no difference to whatever this is. Coughed so much pulled a chest muscle. Hubbie now on steroids and antibiotics and I’m on antibiotics as well. Got to be one of the worst things we have ever had. Still coughing very phlegmy and very very tired.

Katek Fri 30-Dec-22 18:29:31

Another one here for the lurgy club although I'm sure none of us wants to be a member. Dh and I had Covid at end of October, but felt we'd got over it reasonably well and managed to get our booster/flu vac early December. Days later we both felt as if we were coming down with a cold, sore throat, runny nose etc. I wish it had been a cold, we both ended up on antibiotics and I also had to have ny first course of steroids in many, many years. I've coughed so much I've managed to strain my abdominal muscles and am wincing out loud if I sneeze or take a deep breath/yawn. We managed to travel for a family Christmas but I've felt really rough since we got home, shaky, slightly nauseous and totally devoid of energy. Whatever this is it's been worse than Covid.

minxie Fri 30-Dec-22 18:21:05

I started with it yesterday, it must be a strong one as I rarely get ill, and even my teeth hurt. so I have my new Christmas oodie on and I’m snuggled up on my bed. I hope you all feel better soon

madeleine45 Fri 30-Dec-22 18:14:36

Sorry to hear you ae all having such a horrible time. So far I seem to have escaped it but as I live on my own and am keeping well away from people , fingers crossed that I keep away from it. Do hope you all improve soon , keep warm and lots to drink and think you might have to have a delayed official New Years Eve do! May everyone get better soon

glammagran Fri 30-Dec-22 17:58:43

Our Christmas looked on course to be cancelled as DGS aged 20 months was in hospital for 3 days with RSV only being discharged Christmas Eve, late afternoon. My DD is filing a complaint against the GP who said it was normal for a young child to be almost comatose and eating nothing for nearly a week. No oxymeter measurement was made - his level was 83 on admission. Another night and he could have incurred brain damage his lungs were so congested on X-ray. His normally chubby legs are are like sticks atm he’s lost so much weight.

Yesterday we had a family get together at my DD2’s house again. DH and DS were both coughing for England. Both 3 weeks in with this “new” cold virus and both exhausted. This morning DD1 is ill with a very sore throat and sister’s partner wasn’t 100% though everyone was ok yesterday except the long term coughers. Both families stayed overnight at ours. I may have had the same virus last week as I have had similar symptoms but mine has been very much milder.

icanhandthemback Fri 30-Dec-22 17:47:10

I had my first two Vaccinations for Covid but that's it for me, and I haven't had the flu jab either. I'm looking after myself in other ways.

I'm following medical advice which has always worked so far for me.

Daisymae Fri 30-Dec-22 17:46:41

Undines - your husband's experience sounds very similar to that of a friend of mine. Has been ill for months now. I don't know if they had flu and Covid jabs on the same day though but they would have had them and the initial problems started a few days after a Covid booster. I have had both jabs, not on the same day.
