Out of no-where, hit me like a hurricane on Boxing Day.

Any other sufferer out there?

Nope.nope.and nope.! Not any of these it's just a new strain of the good old fashioned cold! Isolation has nowt to do with it! We always get clobbered by a new cold most years but we shouldn't blame COVID etc. Not related. This information from my epidemiologist neighbour........!

Growstuff - there was a link posted by someone else (can't remember who, sorry) which covers this.

Interesting. I posted that I had Covid over Christmas ( Any unwanted Christmas presents 29/12/2022 at 12.50) and nobody made any comment.)

…and meant to ask does anyone use one of those oxymeters (I think they’re called). My reading has been lowest at 95 but jumps around to 97/98. Heart rate usually in the 70s or occasional 80s.

Yes

Sorry to hear that. I was following the post, but missed your comment. Hope you're getting better.

I still have a productive cough. Not sure if it was covid as didnt have any tests, but it was bad.

Thank you OnwardandUpward, you have restored my faith in humanity. Last 2 weeks have been a huge learning curve. Now I know who cares. Must update my will!

Wishing you well OnwardandUpward.

I caught it and have been poorly for six weeks. I ended up with pneumonia. Partly because we can’t heat the house. I was recommended this -Sambucol Natural Black Elderberry Extra Defence, Vitamin C, B6 & D, Zinc, Folic Acid & Minerals, Immune Support Supplement, at E Multicoloured, 120 ml. I feel so much better. It looks like it’s starting to clear. Maybe it was on the way out anyway but maybe it wasn’t?

Two colds/Lurgies in three weeks over Christmas is just not on!! Both caught from youngest grandson who we look after. Thought I was doing well to be clear of the first by Christmas Eve only to completely lose my voice on Boxing Day and be floored with another cold worse than the first one!!
Now that I'm almost clear DH has succumbed to the sore throat and a cold. Happy New Year!!

Sledge-hammer blow on Boxing Day. Cough, blocked nose and - unusually for me - almost non-stop sneezing. It's all been very exhausting. DS and DiL have been looking after me - lemon and honey, cups of tea and an infinite supply of tissues. I can remember a Christmas cold about 20 years ago just like this one, but at least this time I haven't lost my voice. Luckily, my 6-month-old DGD, who seemed to have caught it, has thrown it off and is as lively and sociable as ever.

That should have read "my DGGD".

I've just read online that this current lurgy is likely to be Omicron sub variant XBB.1.5 - therefore part of Covid but is not showing up on LFTs.

Magsymoo Mon 02-Jan-23 15:37:49

That wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve got some Covid features such as changed sense of taste, raw throat, alongside features of flu but I’ve tested negative throughout.

Wishing you well OnwardandUpward.

Thanks so much! You too flowers

I am still chesty. My chest has not been the same since I first got covid. I am still having a productive cough but can't find the covid tests.

I think this is the culprit.

I moved house at end of November Covid positive on 12 December. Loss of taste & smell, cough, sore throat runny nose, exhaustion. Generally rubbish. Managed to stagger through Christmas when just about everyone had ‘something’ and last Wednesday was floored with the cough from hell, headache and just can’t get out of bed. Im usually so healthy. Don’t like it ….

Interested in that, OnwardandUpward, but it’s behind a pay wall

Is it? Sorry I managed to read it , not sure why it's done that. I took some screenshots for you. Will try to share.

OnwardandUpward Mon 02-Jan-23 17:54:13

Here's another one. Apologies they are quite small because I screen shot and the page was full of adverts that I missed out.

Interestingly, Forbes (who have incidentally been bought by the Chinese) blame America for this latest variant and say it is rife there, while the American news blame China.

I was absolutely fine until about two hours ago. Went out for a lovely walk today. It was warm and sunny. Now I have a headache and am absolutely freezing. Heating and electric fire are on. DH and DD are absolutely fine ( though DD was poorly last week). Should go to bed but it is Silent Witness soon. Due to have DGC tomorrow as they don't go back to school till Wednesday. Feel so cross as I have been fine up until this afternoon.

Thanks. Interesting. Scary!

I don't know why the news is only coming out now after some of us have been suffering for the last two weeks!

Christmas and New Year were ruined and it's nearly time to go back to work. Haven't been anywhere or seen anyone! I have eaten a total of ten fresh fruits and vegetables today (and not a lot else) as I'm desperate for my immunity to kick in.

Harris27 Mon 02-Jan-23 20:42:29

I’ve had sore throat which comes and goes no energy and chest been not good. Wish it was summer already.

OnwardandUpward Mon 02-Jan-23 21:42:10

It probably affects people differently. Had a productive cough since Christmas Eve, but gradually finding it easier to breathe. No energy. Sore throat and blocked ears, nose and throat, plus body aches and pains, also temperature.
