Out of no-where, hit me like a hurricane on Boxing Day.

Any other sufferer out there?

I started this on the 3rd December, really ill the first week, nausea, terrible cough, sore throat, weakness, I lost half a stone in 10 days, 2nd week still terrible but marginally better only my ear started to be infected too. At one stage OH called our surgery and asked if I could be prescribed antibiotics as he was so worried, they told him they could not prescribe over the phone (they have done before as I have a history of getting pheumonia) and I would have to come in but no appointments the next day and filling up fast for the next week, if I got worse to call 111. My view was to ride it out as I would only be advised to go to A&E and did not think I was up to sitting there for several hours. I thought I was a little better two days before Christmas and then felt terrible again, just about managed to cook a sort of Christmas lunch mainly bought in and then felt awful again. Mr tl has had it but not for so long or so badly, tested several times for Covid but always negative so whether it is a type of flue, covid variant or something else possibly made worse because of the previous lack of interaction between us all heavens knows but it is nasty.

Are we going to test passengers arriving from China. Probably not 😡

It's complete madness that the UK is not planning to test. Have we learnt nothing from February 2020???? angry

My daughter came down with whatever it is on boxing day, fever, cough, sore throat, aching all over, nausea. A friend whom she had seen 2 days previously tested positive for Covid. My daughter has tested twice and negative. She said it feels worse than when she had Covid last year. She contacted a GP service that she can access through work and they said it was flu and signed her off work. She had decided not to have flu jab.
She has been mainly in bed but we have had close contact. I have had a slight cough and bit of a sore throat. I had both flu jab ,covid booster in November and do take vitamin D and a prebiotic drink for my immune system daily since start of Covid.
Goodness knows what's going on but it seems everyone I know has a family member affected. Maybe it's reduced contact due to previous winter seasons. Maybe it's a new variant that eludes tests. In some ways it's no good trying to guess as government strategy is covid is over! Hopefully everyone recovers well and the new year is brighter.

It appears the government have no plans to test passengers arriving from China. 😡

I have a sickness virus, exhausted, bad headache and a sore throat 😭

OnwardandUpward Thu 29-Dec-22 02:31:11

Probably that's not helped. My defences were down already before this and I'm still finding it hard to breathe although the pulse oximeter says I'm ok.

Biscuitmuncher Thu 29-Dec-22 00:31:50

Could it be all the mask wearing and social distancing has really messed up people's immune systems?

So many of us having a bad time. I had to stay in bed on 18th with sore throat and headache. Then I seemed to be better for a couple of days but since last Wednesday I've been in bed off and on. I have the most hideous cough, which has led to being sick a few times. Today I have had headache but not so much cough. The cough comes if I talk much or go from one atmosphere to another.
I wish it would stop.

Arrived at DS’s last Thursday all 3 children had cough, sickness, temperature and one got progressively worse. DS’s neighbour is a paramedic who came round and said our DGS should go to hospital. The NHS were wonderful took him in immediately he had a pretty awful 24 hours but they eventually managed to stabilise him. Two nights in hospital and then thankfully he is back with us and playing Minecraft with his brother. Phew, what a stressful Christmas.

Back home tomorrow exhausted 🥱🤪

Middle grandson has been ill for two or three weeks. The primary school has been decimated by it. My son started it the week before Christmas and I'd got it by Christmas day. The cough has been driving us both mad. I think mine's a bit better today so perhaps the worst is over.

Lomo123 Wed 28-Dec-22 22:15:29

SIL, took really bad Christmas morning. He went downhill so rapidly. He just had to go to bed. He could hardly get a breathe in. He got up after we, d eaten, think he felt bad we were there and he was in bed. We told him to get back to bed and not to pass it on. Covid test negative. His breathing bit better today. Can't believe how fast it hit him.

pinkprincess Wed 28-Dec-22 19:54:29

Three weeks ago had terrible sore throat, then headache accompanied by horrible pains all over my face. I ran out painkillers and was screaming in agony till a family member brought me some. It was not covid.I have COPD but my breathing was not affected.
Now DS2 has bad flu and has taken his bed.

I don’t have any cold symptoms, Just cough, painful throat and fever but feel terrible. My cough is dry and painful. It seems we all have slightly different presentation of a viral infection. I might try to speak to a dr. in the morning just for reassurance. If I was younger I would probably let it run its course but in my 70’s I’m more wary of neglecting myself..

Jaxjacky Wed 28-Dec-22 18:10:50

Ive got a cold, first one for a long time, drippy nose and a cough that interrupted my sleep. My daughter has a similar bug, hers is almost gone after two days, so I’m hopeful.
Some of you sound really rough, I hope you improve soon.

I started with this on Xmas Eve and I’m really unwell. High temperature, painful throat, coughing, no appetite etc. At what point do you need to get medical advice in case it’s become a chest infection etc?

Same. I was going to get medical advice this morning but I overslept and you have to ring our surgery at 8.30am or be forever doomed.

Is your cough productive? Mine is. Still wheezy and short of breath. The sore throat is better today but thick in the chest and can't speak for the second day in a row. Must check my oxygen levels as I have a pulse oximeter somewhere... I might set my alarm to ring Dr in the morning. Hope you feel better soon.

Smileless2012 Wed 28-Dec-22 17:39:51

I hope your GS gets better soon Elaine.

Well, I still have no voice, perhaps because of congestion- but I do have a slightly productive cough. Been steaming to produce it. Was wheezy at night but didn't wake up early enough to consult with the Dr.

Husband offered to go to the pharmacy to get medicine, but I said no because he might come home with a new illness from all the sick people there. I will just use steam and also there are videos online that show you how to cough up the phlegm.

DGS has had it since the 19th. Horrific cough. Waking him up at night, making him sick. At times he's OK but at others, he's conked out. Very odd how it comes and goes although he is very stoical and often denies being ill when he clearly is. Only a slight temperature. Not covid.

My DGS is same. He is 9. We had to take him to Sick Kids last night as he had a coughing fir for 1 ½ hours and could not catch his breath at all. Scary. Had chest x ray and has streaks in his R lung so antibiotics changed. He also has scarlet fever.

MiniMoon Wed 28-Dec-22 09:18:05

DH is back from the walk-in centre. He tested negative for covid there. He has some kind virus which is affecting loads of people. No treatment advised, but if he is still coughing after 8 weeks they will have him back for a chest xray. He was just advised to take paracetamol and rest as much as possible.

Mom3 Tue 27-Dec-22 23:43:48

We didn't get together with DS and his family today as planned because GD has a bad cold. So still have their gifts waiting for them. DH and I just got over bad colds from 6-year-old GC of other son. I had a cough that kept me awake. Tests for Covid were negative.

OnwardandUpward Tue 27-Dec-22 21:36:39

Tena lady are good, thankful for those!

Abitbarmy Tue 27-Dec-22 21:35:44

Yes I agree it has been much worse than Covid for me. And the hard coughing has some embarrassing side effects as well as the really sore abdomen muscles.

OnwardandUpward Tue 27-Dec-22 20:56:00

So sorry about your SiL Ginny. So sorry for everyone who's also ill. I agree with you Smileless, this does feel worse than covid.

So sorry for all of you, including myself, if I'm honest .
