After suffering for many years of arthritic wrists which slowly developed into painful severe degenerative arthritis, The steroid injections in August 2022 did not work and I am due for the first surgical procedure called Trapeziectomy on my left wrist next week. I am becoming increasingly anxious as to how I am going to manage with only one hand for several weeks. I live on my own but have many friends offering help. I’m sure some of you out there have had this done and would love hints and tips please. I am so looking forward to being pain-free!

You will be fine. I don’t have the use of my left hand so am used to doing everything one handed anyway. I hope the surgery goes well.

Very best of luck Grannyseaside. It will be lovely for you to be pain free in a few weeks time.💐

Take up all the offers of help that you have been given. Don't be too proud to ask, and end up struggling.

And look forward to pain free wrists smile

You’ll be surprised Grannyseaside at how well you will adapt.

Maybe look into any aids for things you might find difficult (if you don't already have them) - such as a kettle frame/tipper, jar opener etc. An occupational therapist could help with that and suggest new ways of doing things.

Buy some soft stretchy bras if you don't feel comfortable without one. Fasten them and check you can pull them up one handed or over your head.
Check all your clothes which fasten with buttons. Tracksuit trousers or elastic waists are a boon even if you think they are awful. Tops that have no fastenings and come over your head are best. Shoes that slip on easily.
For your kitchen one of those plastic pads that stop things slipping is good, but you can use a damp cloth, folded up to rest things on so they don't move.
You can buy ready chopped onions and peppers and veg to put in your freezer. But if you can cook a few things and freeze them in advance that will help.
You will cope one handed and you do have time to prepare some things.
