Did any of you have side effects from this medication, still on going after you had finished the course?
I had a five day course 400mg x 3 a day. The side effects started on about the third day of taking and still continuing.
Thank you all in advance.

I had a course of this recently because of a dental infection. I had nausea and an unpleasant taste which lasted a couple of days longer. It is important not to drink alcohol according to the instructions. I took some probiotics afterwards.

It can cause stomach upsets.

My reaction was so severe, I spent an extra two days post op in hospital.
Its now on my allergy list.

Yes, it’s a definite no-no to alcohol while taking this. Not that you would of course….

I had to stop taking it almost immediately, so debilitating was the nausea it caused. My GP helpfully provided an alternative prescription.

Nausea & stomach pain

Thank you .... I don't smoke and I haven't had any alcohol since before lockdown.
I have back pain (different to my usual) headache, brain fog & metallic taste.
I did also have lightheadedness and heartburn, but the heartburn may have been because I stopped my Omeprazole to take the antibiotics.

My dentist did say to take it at mealtimes to avoid nausea - I hate to think what it would have been like otherwise....

Avoiding alcohol while taking it (and for a few days afterwards) means avoiding any alcohol whatsoever - so beware of things like mouthwash too, or any foods which may contain even a small amount of alcohol.

Have no side effects whatsoever when taking this medicine previously. I took it for months continuously once to clear up a severe C Diff infection.

I had a tooth abcess and was put on this and had severe vomiting, stomach pains and the most awful sulphuric smell. I only took 3 days worth and then my dentist changed me to another antibiotic which was fine..

It’s strange isn’t it? So many people have terrible side effects with this drug, and others like myself, no side effects at all. I suppose it just goes to show how we’re all different.

I read an article today about research into DNA and allergies to drugs.
I think it is a great idea, unfortunately too late for me, with my multiple allergies. One RA drug caused a heart attack.

How awful Marydoll sad I hope you are OK now.

That's why I hate taking new medication. But this one according to the pharmasist I have taken once before. Probably years ago as I don't recall the name.

Allergies are so weird, everyone is different. I agree it's scary taking any new medication. I had no side effects from Metronidazole after a 200mg dose for three days for a tooth infection.

It is Trimethoprim that gave me a severe allergic response. Hands red and swollen, extreme nausea and exhaustion for 2 days. Slight soreness corner of mouth and slight thrush appeared two days later. Prescribed 6 but only took 2 x 200mg tablets.
