Fish makes me smell!

Since menopause I have started to smell "down there" after eating fish - especially cod. It's definitely not one of the infections that makes you smell fishy - only happens after eating fish. Google reveals that it's not particularly unusual but I'm wondering if there are ways to avoid or decrease the problem? It's annoying as we are trying to eat more fish for the health benefits!

I don’t understand Sago’s response at all. Is it a joke?

Anyway, I’ve noticed this too but I doubt if there’s anything to be done to prevent it.

The smell is in your urine and it is normal after eating certain foods. I think the only thing you can do is drink plenty of water to flush out the compounds that cause it.

Thanks for the sensible explanation Blossoming. It's a relief to know that it's not just me that has this embarrassing problem that's difficult to talk about - two of my close friends suffer from it too. I'll try drinking more water and recommend that to my friends as well. Thank you eddiecat77 for daring to bring the subject up

It is a thing and it has a name.

I don't think that is it or it would happen after eating other foods too

It’s correct and asparagus is one of the worst culprits.

Bodily reactions to food are immensely variable. I love asparagus and eat a lot in season. It used to make my wee smell. Over the last few years it hasn't. No idea why this change has happened.

I think each person has to work out for themselves what causes their problem and make any necessary adjustments.

Good idea to drink plenty of water or herbal teas.

I have this problem, to almost anything strongly flavoured, coriander being the worst. And for some reason I can ‘feel’ mint but not chilli. The answer is to drink plenty of liquid, preferably water.

It must be like when you eat asparagus, which makes urine smell. If you eat too much beetroot it dyes it pink not that I've tried it but know someone who went to the Dr . about it.

My Mum told me that she had a fit when changing my brother's nappy discovered it was pink. She found out her Mum had been feeding him beetroot!

It does happen after other foods too. Coffee affects some people but not others, for one thing.
