In a similar vein WWM2 I lost a really significant amount of weight with MM's Fast 800. It's really important to understand and follow the principles as they are very different to many established diet plans but they make perfect sense. I found it very easy, the recipes are excellent but he does emphasise that it should become a way of life rather than a quick fix. The current obesity crisis is hard to unpick but has a definite link with very highly processed foods which have been shown to change the way our brains work in relation to food and reward. Scary!

My DH was diagnosed diabetic some years ago and followed NHS very basic diet it was successful. Very good for losing weight and keeping blood sugar levels down but a bit too boring for DH. I bought Michael Mosleys diet book which does give more choice and great recipes. This is just to keep him on his toes in case he strays I agree it’s very successful.

It isn’t just a question of cutting down carbs it is cutting them out entirely.

It is hard, but MM book helps enormously and at least you have an end goal in mind.

Today our diet is

Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 slice bacon and 1 sausage.

Lunch: roasted garlic chicken breast ( in the oven as I write) mixed salad, French dressing

Dinner: cauliflower, aubergine and lemon Thai curry. (No rice)

Fruit or mixed nuts for snack. But fruit can only be northern hemisphere fruit. So apple, pear, plums, berries. No tropical or melon, banana etc. too much sugar

Thanks for sharing your and your husband’s experience Whitewavemark3. I too was pre-diabetic and was enrolled for the Diabetes Prevention Program through my GP. Unfortunately despite working hard at it my blood sugar actually increased, though I did lose some weight. I was really disappointed. Afterwards I tried to follow a healthy diet, no sugary snacks, not too many carbs, just common sense things. When I had my usual annual blood tests recently I was told my blood sugar had ‘reduced significantly’ and I was no longer pre-diabetic.

I really want to build on this so will definitely check out Michael Mosley.

I did it, simply cut out all processed foods possible. Every label I scrutinised and if it read carbohydrate’s (of which sugars) more than 10g per 100g it was returned to shelf.
I quickly lost 2 stones and as yet have not had type 2 or pre diabetic status since.
The labels are amazing to read however if my recollections are correct things like sugar free baked beans had more sugar than normal ones !

My DH has been advised by the surgery that his blood sugar at 7.1 is too high.

This has happened before, when we took our eye off the ball and we followed the blood sugar diet with success, so we are off again.

So to those who may have the same issue I would just say that in our experience the Michael Mosley blood sugar diet works so successfully that I feel it is worth sharing our experience with you.

So last week DH was told his blood sugar stood at 7.1 and he weighed 12 6.

We have followed the diet for about 6 days now and this morning his blood sugar is 6.5 and his weight 12 4.

We have 7 weeks to go and then will be careful for a time before eating a “normal” diet leaving out all cake, puddings etc except on very special occasions.

But what I wanted to convey is that it is absolutely possible to get on top of your blood sugar issue.
