My latest ‘graphic image’
It’s two months since my op and the site is still painful if I knock it but is looking much better.
I am disappointed that it looks brown which is what I feared .
The consultant took the skin for the graft from my shoulder where it is a bit browner than further down, I don’t know why she did but I wasn’t consulted.😂
There is still a bit more healing to happen and I hope it continues to improve.
After the first couple of weeks I decided that things are what they are and have realised that so many people have much worse disfigurement than me. In fact I have realised that others don’t even notice things that I would have thought were obvious. As plain as the nose on your face for example!
I will now continue to live my life depending on my wit and fantastic personality instead of relying on my amazing beauty!!!

Seriously keep putting on the high factor suncream and noticing any blemishes that don’t quite look right. Google symptoms and images of BCCs to see what you are looking for..
How are the rest of you been faring with your nasties since the last post?

My DH had a BCC removed from in front of his ear about 2 years ago. It has grown back and he has another on the side of his forehead which continually bleeds and scabs over. He has been waiting months to have them removed.
He has been told he may need skin grafts. It worries me that he has been waiting for so long for them to be removed.
Best wishes to everyone on here.

I have had three BCC's removed from my face over the past fifteen years. For the past few weeks have had a small white spot at end of m y nose, rather embarrassing as it looks like a 'drip'. Have been tempted to do nothing, hoping it will clear up. Reading this thread has changed my mind and next week will be contacting GP>

Nana3

Been waiting for months now to have diagnostic treatment on my nose. Saw a nurse who said she could see cancer cells, months later saw a consultant. Then had an automated phone call asking me mostly if my life was affected by the sores on my nose and if I still wanted to be on the list. It makes me feel like no-one cares. Sorry, just venting really.
Best wishes to op.

Go back and pester and pester again.
This is the photo of my nose yesterday.
I did try so hard for 3 years to get something done when it would have been such a small problem. I was also phoned last year to ask if I wanted to stay on the list.
BCCs don’t get better on their own.

I’ve heard that about Vaseline, too. That was from a skin specialist recently.

I had a BCC removed from my thigh last September . My Plastic Surgeon advised “ daily wash pat dry and Vaseline for 3 weeks “ I was surprised that Vaseline was advised but followed her instructions and did’nt have any problems . Good Luck

I think we should all feel very thankful we got our BCCs removed. I have a scar about an inch long on my nose like a Number 7 shape but it doesn’t bother me. Still rather that than having skin grafted from behind ear which is what the surgeon anticipated.

A lady in our village had to have her whole nose removed and they just fashioned a very lumpy pair of nostrils in the middle of her face. Poor lady.

Anybody had PDT treatment? This is Photodynamic Therapy. It is supposed to give great results. Several years ago I read about it before my op and took some info in to see my surgeon. He was very snooty about it and said “that will leave you with a large hole in your nose. Is that what you want?”
I guess they do get fed up with patients doing their own research but he was not polite at all and clearly knew nothing about it.

I was disappointed as it seemed preferable to surgery. Had the surgery anyway. About 2 years later the same surgeon was in our regional newspaper being applauded for using PDT on patients at our hospital and saying how fantastic it was! I was sorely tempted to contact him and say “remember me.”😉

I think I remember doing a pinching action as well - the idea was that the lesions in the subcutaneous layers should be loosened. ("loosened" is not quite the right word - made more supple, and to improve the circulation)

For a scar after a cut on my hand I was encouraged to massage it to soften the scar tissue and get the skin back to normal. It can't do any harm, especially as you would use cream or oil.

I had a BCC removed from the side of my nose three or four years ago. I have been left with an inch long scar.

Depends on the spread and area annodomini my sisters and I have had a variety of treatments.
This is what mine looks like this morning.

It sounds as if my experience of BCC removal was very different from the procedure described by the OP.
I had three BCCs (two on the side of my nose and one on my cheekbone) removed 8 months ago by a plastic surgeon at my local hospital, painlessly with only local anaesthesia and most efficiently. All the wounds were neatly stitched. I was provided with a little tube of antibiotic gel to prevent post-op infection. In due course, the stitches dissolved themselves. It didn't take too long for the scars to disappear. I had asked the surgeon if I'd be able to drive home after the surgery and as he saw no reason not to, I did so - very cautiously.

I had a cyst on my chin a few months ago which left a big wound. I wore a dressing and then a plaster (band aid) on it for quite a while, and even after I went without a dressing, wrapped my scarf higher round my neck to disguise it a little.

All together, I guess it took about 6 weeks to 2 months to heal to a point where I wasn't worrying about how it looked.

I’m having my nose shortened today , is the title of the thread I started last week whilst I was having my MOHs procedure.
Seems that there has been a rash of threads about skin problems and BCCs since so I won’t go through it all again.
If you are interested MamGul it’s there.
I’m having the protective sponge removed tomorrow so I will get a better idea of how much nose I have left.

MamGu12 Tue 02-May-23 15:19:37

Thank you so much ladies for reassuring and informative reply’s as usual.

HousePlantQueen Tue 02-May-23 14:53:25

Hope you soon get back to normal after the procedure. I have to admit, when I was scrolling down the list of threads, I thought it said BBC removal grin

crazyH Tue 02-May-23 14:44:33

MamGu - I don’t want to sound patronising. Be glad that the BCC has been diagnosed and removed. Don’t worry about the scar. I’m sure it will fade in time.

Sparklefizz Tue 02-May-23 14:29:25

I used Rescue Remedy Cream and my face healed wonderfully well ... so much so that the nurse commented on it and said that many of her patients used it.

Norah Tue 02-May-23 14:29:12

I was told to keep my scars covered for a year. Easy really, they've been on arms, legs, and my back - clothing is all I need.

Vitamin E oil on scars, from right after surgery, reduces scarring.

MamGu12 Tue 02-May-23 14:28:51

Thank you nanna8 that is what I thought to put on it but as the nurse who removed the stitches didn’t suggest anything I wondered if it’s a new way forward ….

I am a bit self conscious of it as it’s on my chin and the outline of the scar is about the size of a ten pence piece I just hope it fades over time I know it’s nothing to what so many people have to endure.

Mamie Tue 02-May-23 14:21:31

Yes, here in France it goes on the post-op prescription! We have La Roche Posay Cicatrice (scar) cream. I think there is an Avène one as well. Should be available in the UK. DH has had several removed, the last one on his nose under GA with a skin graft.

BlueBelle Tue 02-May-23 14:20:18

My mum had two removed one from her nose and one her back she had quite a lot of flesh taken but they healed well and although there was a scar it wasn’t horrendous
She didn’t use anything

nanna8 Tue 02-May-23 14:18:42

I used bio oil, I think they have it there. I have had a couple removed, the joys of living in a sunny climate !
