As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

Because it's a soap opera, of course people are going to comment on it, it's like asking people not to comment on Eastenders if they watch it.

How about moving on from something that happened about 37 years ago and had nothing to do with you.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 17:30:26

Camilla was so in love with Andrew Parker Bowles

sodapop Sun 30-Apr-23 17:27:09

I think Queen Elizabeth was well aware that Camilla would be Queen in due course
JenniferEccles she was just paving the way for it to happen.
I think Camilla has proved to be a great support and wife for Charles and will help him in his new role. I like her and think she is a down to earth sensible woman.

NanKate Sun 30-Apr-23 17:25:58

I don’t think P. Charles had much choice in his bride. I think he was virtually pushed into marrying her. Camilla would not have been thought appropriate at the time.

I like Camilla she makes King Charles laugh and they look so happy together.

Long live the King and Queen. Hip hip hooray. 👍🥂🇬🇧🤴

It’s nonsense to believe that Camilla wanted to marry Charles from the off. She was nuts about the dashing handsome Andrew Parker Bowles (Jilly Cooper’s model in her novel)
and that what what she wanted.
She always looks rather strained and nervy to me. I don’t think this will be an easy occasion for her.

Diana had no concern for the wives of the men she had affairs with

I love your comments Anniebach - you just get straight to the point amid all the speculation.

Diana was wronged, but she did have affairs with married men.

I don't think that either Charles or Camilla had anything to do with Diana's grooming though. They were in love with one another, and it was the older generation who kept them apart. Had they not done so, well, who knows.

If we want to leap to conclusions about other people's lives, it is perfectly possible to see their relationship as one where love conquers all.

Great point.

Seems odd to believe the King groomed Dianna, he was apparently told to marry her? He'd seemingly always wanted Camilla as his wife.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:53:32

Yes and Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra

aggie Sun 30-Apr-23 16:51:23

Elizabeth , the Queen Mother was Queen. Consort ,

aggie Sun 30-Apr-23 16:50:00

All women married to a King are consorts , but the title consort gets dropped , Elizabeth the second was Queen in her own right so her consort was Phillip who was Prince consort , but could not be King consort as that would mean he was superior to a Queen .
No I don’t really understand it all either , but I’ve done my best to explain

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:46:05

Who were the previous Queen consorts?

JenniferEccles Sun 30-Apr-23 16:43:19

The late Queen’s wish was that Camilla should eventually become Queen Consort, so I’m surprised that Charles has chosen to go against his mother’s wishes, especially so soon after her death.

Anniebach Sun 30-Apr-23 16:43:15

I don’t believe she was groomed , encouraged yes.

There is no reason why Camilla should be queen - she can be queen consort or whatever.

I won't be watching either but that's nothing to do with Camilla or Diana or monarchism/royalism. We simply don't have a telly.

It's worth having it on via the radio as there are some fabulous musicians (Bryn Terfel, Roderick Williams) and some newly commissioned compositions from excellent contemporary composers.

It seems to me that a number of people appear to be unaware of the two different definitions of 'queen'. When a female is sovereign in her own right (as were Victoria and the two Elizabeths), any spouse is not a king. However a king's wife is (his) queen. Camilla's status bears no comparison to her late mother-in-law

Thanks. I didn’t realise this. I do love pomp and ceremony and horses. Throw in bagpipes and I’m gone! I’m not religious but, if I was I think I’d have to be high church with incense and stuff floating around!

Iam64 Sun 30-Apr-23 16:09:17

I’ll watch some tv coverage. I rather enjoy the kings horses and men . Beautiful horses, very skilled riders. I’m interested in history and this is a historical event.
I don’t know enough about Camilla to ‘judge’. I’m always surprised how strongly sone posters (yes, you again) feel pro/anti Camilla and Diana. Having said that, I find it impossible not to remember that 19 year old being groomed into a role for which she was unsuitable. She eventually got therapy and had a brighter future……

I agree. I think her crowning is on Charles insistence rather than hers tho.

3 years after her marriage Diana was deeply in love with someone else

Charles was deeply in love with someone else from the beginning of his unfortunate marriage.

The throne should pass now to William and Kate, let's have a clean start.

AJgranma Sun 30-Apr-23 15:55:45

Thankful for the castles etc - at least!

Freya5 Sun 30-Apr-23 15:46:39

Camilla has proven herself to be a fitting Queen to Charles, she has proven herself to most of the senior Royals, otherwise would have been ousted long ago. Loves this country, does much for charity causes. Met at Sandringham, appears warm and friendly, her and Charles laughing away with the crowd, comfortable with us "commoners". As she herself is, or better still has the human touch. So will be watching and possibly shedding a tear or two. Celebrating our wonderful history. Yes I'm a Royalist, stability and continuity in our Constitutional Monarchy .
