Hi
Looking for advice re face creams . I used Ponds cream for years with no problems ,then couldn't buy it anymore. I then switched to Nivea which was fine, went back to buy some more but ended up with Nivea Q10 which irritated my skin, then bought Boots own which I didn't realise also said Q10 on the package ,then tried Nivea face cream for dry and sensitive skin. My face is now red, itchy and looks swollen Has anyone else had this problem ? what do you find works for you? Thank you

My skin is sensitive (for example I have an allergic reaction to sun block even the ones for sensitive skin). My sister-in-law gave me Liz Earle for Christmas which doesn't cause any reaction at all and now I swear by it.

I can't use anything containing Hyaluronic acid

Missdeke, Have you tried Salt of the Earth natural deodorant? I found it at TKMaxx then bought it on line. Both myself & daughter get itchy underarms even if we use Dove sensitive but SOTE works perfectly, no pongs; no itching.

Unless you know precisely what it is in these face creams that you are allergic to, you will need to stop using any and all creams.

I never use anything and never have since I was a teenager, except cleansing cream made for removing stage makeup, as it is or was the only thing I can use without my allergies playing up.

These days there are a wide range of make-up products sold by pharmacies that claim to be for sensitive skins, but again, unless you know what you are allergic to no pharmacist can advise you properly.

But look for something that has absolutely no perfume, while you wait for an allergy test to determine what it is that is causeing the trouble.

If you have no problems with bath soap and shampoo, you could try a face cream made by the same company.

Thank you for all the replies I guess I will have to keep trying until I find one to suit

I didn’t have to read any further than your original post.

After prolonged use of any face product many women (not all) can build up an intolerance to their beloved product. STOP USING immediately. It may lead to worse problems.

Second clue was you’re using a thick gooey cream. They’re heavy and can clog pores and irritate eyes. Most women cannot tolerate creams day after day. Switch to a LOTION. And SWITCH BRANDS. All cosmetics have preservatives too so you might want to read labels.

Never put any moisturizer on your eyelids!

Experiment with a new one… you may see relief in 24-48 hrs. Many good lotions on the market with moisturizing benefits without being heavy. You may have to try a second brand but you will find a new product that works for you!
(I used to sell cosmetics.)
Good luck!

Nivea QT upsets my skin but Clinique moisture surge ( nor extra moisturising ) never has and I am very prone to being allergic

No I haven't used that one, I'll bear it in mind. My current one is FitPits and so far so good.

Simple is reliable.
CeraVe suits me.

Liz Earle products are worth a try.
I was a devotee until CoL crimped my spending.

Avoid anything perfumed, even the stuff that claims to be dermatologist tested, organic, de luxe. Also avoid SLS as too harsh.

Treat your skin like precious silk: no harsh products, gentlest cleansing etc.

I found the Neals Yard Rose oil (other pure rose facial oils are available) to be soothing & nourishing.

I use Roche Posay Toleriane which a dermatologist recommended years ago. There is a light day moisuriser and a slightly thicker night cream.

I have very sensitive skin and during the summer my face is a nightmare. I use Aveeno but it's quite heavy so my face is red and feels hot and sweaty. I've yet to find a sunscreen that doesn't bring out a red rash, recently tried green people but same problem. Interesting to read these posts and might try something else although frightened too in case it makes my face worse. Roll on cooler weather!

My hands were very dry and I used pure almond oil on them and tried it on my face .

It was great .

I've also tried coconut oil and it was good as well .

I normally use Nivea soft .

Many fancy and expensive creams really irritate my touchy skin .

Anyone who has or thinks they have a nut allergy should be careful before using almond or coconut oil.

The creatin in Nivea caused my skin to react very badly - red and angry for a few days and then peeled off. not fun. It started with my face but then travelled down both arms and legs over the course of the next two weeks.

I can use E45 but only do so in the winter. Sun cream during the rest of the year.

Another vote here for La Roche Posay but check you are buying the unperfumed range and Clinique products contain no perfume and I have never reacted to them. Trouble is manufacturers sometimes make slight changes to the ingredients in a product and you can then react to them. For years I used Simple Shower Gel then suddenly my skin felt really itchy. I find Sanex Zero shower gel is fine for me as it contains no perfumes nor a few other nasties. A good price too!

I get itchy with so many products that I only use creams like “Aqueous Cream” with only inorganic chemicals. QV is also good. Never user use soap or gels, just the creams to wash with.
Can’t use any “smellies”, any perfume…. 🙁

As I wrote about using almond and coconut oil as a moisturiser - I didn't think that it was necessary to point out that using it would be ill advised if you are allergic !

I buy raw sheabutter and raw cocobutter via the internet and use it on my face and body. Sometimes I melt them together and add a bit of coconut oil, whip it up in a blender or mixer, and make my own creamy body butter and face cream. I've never had problems with chemical-free stuff. smile

Tropic is natural and I would recommend it.

Esmay there will always be those who think that as the person isn't eating the nuts it is OK. It is not so much those with the allegy not thinking, but those that buy, give or use products on other people.

Our DGD had allergies, now mostly grown out of, but when young she was mildly allergic to tomatoes, so was never fed them, but then one day she found one and was holding it, not for very long, because it was quickly taken away from her, but it triggered a sudden and violent reaction, far more severe than when she was first fed them and reacted.

So, I am sorry, but people do need to be warned.
