What’s happened to the NHS? It’s been deliberately starved of funds and run down by successive Tory governments who want to be rid of it because it costs billions and makes them no money. They want the American model, where health care is dependent on insurance. Heck, you can make money out of sick people!

I despair I honestly do! An elderly friend of mine nearly lost her foot recently. After 10 visits to nurses at her GP Practice (unable to get appt with GP) she finally insisted she must see a GP. She thinks it was a locum she saw and said she went crazy when she examined her and was told she had seen 10 staff and still felt dreadful. She left the room, slamming the door and said “I will sort this!”

Long and short was when she came round in hospital the surgeon said he had saved her foot which had gangrene! She had even seen a diabetic nurse and she didn’t pick up on anything. her leg and foot were dreadfully painful and her foot was freezing cold. She spent 2 weeks in hospital recovering.

What a disgrace that she wasn’t diagnosed much earlier when it might have meant that she did not need a two week stay in hospital either. I have to say I do wonder about nurse training these days.

Walk in centres not much use if they can’t even change a dressing!! What is the point??

Philoheart do you have any volunteers who organise hospital transport in your area? Or can you ask for hospital transport via the Nhs? Have you asked your gp or community nurse for help?

Thanks for the replies. He has tried a walk in centre with previous flare-ups of the ulcer but they weren't able to dress the ulcer so really it was a wasted 6 hour wait for him. The district nurse doesn't visit him he has to travel to their centre in the next town. I will try to get him to ring 111 to see if they can help. I'm disabled and can't drive anymore so it's doubly difficult and I'm getting very worried about it all though he has the 'it's okay' attitude.

Definitely try 111. Don’t be afraid to try a walk in centre or accident and emergency. Good luck 🤞

Have you tried calling 111, they may be able to get your husband an appointment at a walk-in centre or a nurse at another practice.

When you get a visit from the district nurse explain that this is an ongoing problem and she may do regular visits or if she keeps you on file you may be able to call her directly. It really depends on how your local health authority operates.
