Plant Sterols

My last annual check showed that my cholesterol level had gone up and I was advised to try to reduce it by diet. I already take a statin and don't want to increase the dose.
Has anyone on here had experience of taking plant sterols to reduce their cholesterol?

My cholesterol was 5.8 I refused statins I told the surgery nurse I would reduce my intake of butter etc. It’s not that I ate a lot in the first place I didn’t but cholesterol runs in my family.
I went on the Heart UK website about cholesterol. It gives all the advice you need to inform about cholesterol and plant sterols. I also bought a book Lowering Cholesterol recipes from Amazon the recipes are very like a diabetic diet. My last test result was 5.1 so there is a reduction.
I got buttery like spread and yoghurt type drinks to help lower cholesterol but didn’t have too many. I also have semi skimmed milk now and don’t eat a cooked breakfast.

Meant to add hope it helps.

Yes I’m taking them as I cannot tolerate statins.
I can’t tell you how I’m doing yet as I’m awaiting a blood test.

Thank you for starting this thread. I am also currently looking into this. DH has stopped taking statins and feels so much better for doing so. Looking at the long list of side effects I too would like to stop taking them and switch to something natural.
I looked at the Healthspan site & they say taking Artichoke is a good companion to Plant Sterols?
I will follow with this thread with interest.

In May 2022 my cholesterol was at 7.9 😕 I was advised to take statins. Didn’t want to do that so put myself on a Mediterranean diet along with plant steroids. By August I had lost half a stone in weight and my cholesterol had dropped to 5.3. My GP was well impressed!

I reduced mine from 6 to 4.85, cut alcohol, more walking and a Benecol drink everyday, GP still not happy as the ratios not to his standard.
