For the support, understanding and sharing of mental health issues.

For newcomers, there are some people who post regularly, some occasionally, and some like to read. so some post will be "carrying on" discussions, but new sharing always welcome.

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 17:36:49

Just realised you made chicken casserole too Sweetpeasue and HVDY made bread. I haven't really cooked for ages. We eat mostly fresh food, but it's just meat or fish in the oven.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Sept-23 18:47:00

Nadateturbe I'm not a lover of actual cooking really. I have started using my slow cooker again now there's a chill in the air, I'm not enthusistic cooking at all. Tbe appt about knee--you'll not believe this! The GP I spoke to last Friday booked me into the wrong surgery. 😡. DH drove to the surgery that she directed me to to last Friday which is 15 min s away. Stood in queue till receptionist told me I had been booked in at another village 10.mins away from our home in the opposite direction.
We left in a frenzy while I tried to phone the other surgery to tell them whst had happened. 25 mins later turned up at surgery but couldn't be seen because I was 20 mins late. Rang our surgery and receptionist apologised (forDr) so now have an appt early morning on Thursday. DH did 50 mins of driving and hes still not well. I feel livid that our surgery is getting so much wrong. I was also told by the same GP last week to continue with a steroid vream on some v red lesions under my bust. A different GP said hed send a photo to a Dermatologist a couple of weeks ago if his cream didnt work. Had 4 ointments so far and getting quite concerned now. Phew! Sorry. Had to let that out.
Dont need to reply to that Nadateturbe. I just needed to let off steam. 😲
Hope your day has been better with no more sickness episodes. Its kind of you to mention us in your prayers-thankyou so much.
Hoping everyone on BD is ok

Ellie Anne Tue 26-Sept-23 19:41:35

I feel my mental health has gone right downhill.
Son2 upset me yesterday not on purpose but I didn’t cope well. ( he doesn’t know)
Our bible study group was discussing hard things and I came out feeling a total failure. But I couldn’t tell anyone
Today I met 2 friends. We were 4 but one died unexpectedly and I assumed we three would go together to her funeral. But it turns out there is no room for me so I will have to go on my own. And I’m hurt. I know I’m being ridiculous but it’s all dragged me down. I’m not going to son 2 tomorrow because of strikes so will have to find somewhere to go all day. Sorry to moan but today I really don’t want to go on.

Doodle Tue 26-Sept-23 20:18:07

Ellie Anne I can understand and sympathise with your hurt. You feel left out. Others often don’t understand the hurt they cause by a word or action that means nothing to them but has an impact on others. I won’t tell you not to be upset because I would probably feel the same but I doubt with your son or friends it was intentional. I too ponder over things and hurts and worries. You aren’t a failure. You are kind and you feel hurt because you are a sensitive person. People like us often get hurt because we read a lot into things and can’t get them out of our minds. Sending you a big hug. This feeling will wear off but it will take time to get over.
Oh Seeetpeasue I’d be boiling too. Fancy being sent to the wrong place and missing your appointment. I Hope you get some cream that works soon. Steroid cream is not always the right thing. I’m not a keen cooker either but we eat very simply. Mostly chicken and veg most nights with fresh fruit after.
Thank you for asking. DH had his dressing changed today and his wound is nearly healed. One more dressing and we don’t have to see the nurse again.
nadateturbe I have always loved reading. I get my books online from the library as during lockdown we couldn’t go. I’ve got used to reading on my iPad now but really prefer a real book.
I enjoy thrillers or mysteries. Nothing with any horror or such like. Not really into romance but do like a good book like John Grisham or Harlan Coben.
I too pray for that poor girl. Needs some love and understanding. Not always easy when a teenager though.
HVDY I too would love to come to dinner at your place. You always cook such good meals. I love thé smell of home made bread. DH used to make his own in a bread maker for years then it all got too much so we’re back on sliced bread again.
Wyllow stick with us. We all think of you x
Scaredycat Candy hope you’ve had a good day.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 26-Sept-23 20:20:49

SweetpeaSue Blueberry muffins - gorgeous. Your casserole sounds delicious, too. Just what is needed on these autumnal evenings.

nadateturbe Thanks. My Son2 has always joked about my cooking "abilities", as I used to always put the oven on full blast then not time anything, often forgetting something was cooking, until I smelled burning grin. I think it's because I used to be so busy with everything in those days. GDs sister should have been helped some time ago, before things got so out of hand. Thanks for your prayers. I'm not a believer but the sentiment is very nice.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 26-Sept-23 20:44:17

SweetpeaSue Bloody hell, what are your surgery playing at? Glad you'll get to see someone tomorrow. Have you ever tried Sudocrem for the redness under your breasts? I love it for anything. I love the smell, too. Used to use it on people when I did care work. I hope your DH will get on better soon.

EllieAnne I bet your son would be upset if he had any idea that he'd hurt you unintentionally. You aren't a failure, you're a good and sensitive person. I wonder if you take things very much to heart because you're depressed. I think I remember you don't take ADs, is that right? Honestly, I think they would help you. Keep remembering, we're all here, and we care.

Doodle I'm glad your husband's legs have improved a lot. I like Harlan Coben's programmes on Netflix. I think we've seen most of them. I don't read now, as I find I'm unable to concentrate, and I end up having to read the same page again and again. Reading things don't seem to stay in my memory since I had the stroke. I haven't cooked tonight - Son2 called round unannounced, after work, so I ordered an Indian takeaway for us all.

Once again, the GP hasn't been in touch about my husband's peak flow readings (given to the surgery a week ago). I've been Googling his symptoms, and now think he might have EOSINOPHILIC BRONCHITIS. It's a chronic cough, with no wheezing or shortness of breath (unlike Asthma), and one of the causes is breathing in welding fumes - he's done welding for the past 35 years, mostly without ventilation (before Health & Safety). I told the hospital and GP that. I've printed the information and will hand it in at the surgery tomorrow (why do we have to be a nuisance in order to get anything done anywhere these days?)

Scaredycat Tue 26-Sept-23 21:35:57

SweetPeaSue- I,m not a cooking fan either now- I used to like it but now it’s just a chore. Baking can be fun if you are in the mood but that’s not too often either!!
What a fiasco about the wrong surgery for your appointment- that really is not good enough by any standards. There seems to be some drastic mistakes made at your surgery.Your DH must have been tired having to drive when he still feels poorly. I think they should have seen you - it wasn’t your fault you
were late. When I had my echocardiogram earlier in the year the hospital letter was incorrect so I went to the wrong dept and although I was early by the time it was rectified I was late.
But at least I still got it done. Hope the Thursday appointment goes well and you receive better treatment.
Nadateturbe- hope you have felt better today
EllieAnne- I don’t expect your Son meant to upset you or your friends intentionally meant to hurt you either. You have lost your friend so you must feel shocked by that and vulnerable to sad thoughts. It’s not ridiculous to be upset- you have much to deal with emotionally. Take carex
Doodle- good news your husbands wound is almost better. You have done a good job with it. I love reading too but there have been many times when I just couldn’t concentrate - it’s better now since the ADs.
Had a nice day thank you- walked this morning and then went to photography group this afternoon. Had good news too DD has tested negative at last.
HVDY- it,s lovely how your boys pop round often- hope the Indian meal was nice.
It sounds like you could be right about your husbands cough- especially as he has worked a lot in Welding. I think we have to sometimes do research on some conditions as if you get a FTF
It goes so quickly and no one seems to have time to listen anymore. Don’t understand why the surgery can’t just message or email with results- everything is taking so long isn’t it.
.Hope baby is doing well.
Wyllow- as always hoping that you have moments of hope in your day. Sending a hug and so glad you are keeping in touch.

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 21:56:24

Sweetpeasue all so infuriating. Am absolutely livid for you.

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 22:02:38

EllieAnne you sound like a sensitive person. I'm like that and easily hurt but I've learnt that sometimes we misinterpret things. And sometimes people don't think. I'm sure your son and your friends wouldn't deliberately hurt you.
I hope you find something nice to do tomorrow.

Wyllow3 Tue 26-Sept-23 22:02:53

Love in all our struggles: thinking of you all, things still really bad xx

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 26-Sept-23 22:18:41

Off to bed early. I want to be up early, as Son2 is going to be working from our house tomorrow (8am!) as some work is being done at his. Hope ALL BDers have a good sleep. x

Wyllow3 caring thought to you.

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 22:18:46

Doodle great news that your husbands leg is healing, and just one more dressing to go.
I bet you miss the homemade bread. I would love that. I hate the long list of ingredients in bought stuff.
I too have always loved reading. Only one of 7 siblings who mum enrolled in the library. We have completely different tastes though. Mostly historical novels. But open to anything that sounds good except thrillers. I really must use the library more.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 26-Sept-23 22:23:56

Baby in her Halloween costume grin that Mum bought. A skunk shock

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 26-Sept-23 22:24:47

Baby

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 22:31:30

HVDY I can't believe you used to be such a bad cook! I'm sure your son doesn't joke now. It's a shame you can't enjoy reading as much since your stroke. I can't concentrate as well, I wonder is it the M.E. Sometimes I read lighter novels.
It sounds like you've done your research about your husband. It doesn't sound pleasant at all. I hope they listen to you, and can do something to help.

nadateturbe Tue 26-Sept-23 22:47:09

Scaredycat you are so right. We have to spend more time looking after our own health now. Medics just don't have the same time. Its frightening. And not everyone is capable of doing it.
Good news about your daughter. Have you not seen her since she tested positive?
You've had a nice day. Photography group sounds interesting. I love taking photos.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't cook much. I was feeling a bit inadequate.
I too like baking, when I have energy. Much more fun.

Sweetpeasue I hope your husband is OK after all that driving. Not a good day for you both.xx

Wyllow3 thinking of you as always. Sending hugs.
Goodnight to Candy Whiff Allsorts Nanny and everyone else on BD.

Candy6 Wed 27-Sept-23 15:01:36

Afternoon all, just caught up. Phone was playing up yesterday and I didn’t have any internet access but all sorted now thank goodness. Made me realise how much we rely on them.
Nadaterturbe that’s an odd symptom and glad you don’t get it often. Shame it stops you eating out though. Maybe it’s a certain ingredient used and that’s hard to identify. I think I’ve got some type of allergy to something too. I don’t get it to that extent, but I’ve had embarrassing bowel issues after eating out. Not happened a lot, but it’s happened and it makes you wary. I agree with you that short visits to the caravan being well worth it. We go between commitments too. Some people say that because the site fees are such a lot then you need to be able to stay for long periods to justify it. I don’t agree, just one night away can do you the world of good. Glad your DH is better and I hope the BP issue is sorted soon.
Scaredycat I’m glad you had a good sleep. You must have needed it and it will have done you good I’m sure. I appreciate being able to sleep well nowadays after I had many months of either not being able to sleep due to anxiety or afraid of going to bed because I’d wake up with a panic attack. They say you need sleep to recover but that’s hard when you’re anxious. Sounds like you had a good day yesterday and I hope you enjoyed your photography group. Good news about your DD too 😀. My DD has tested positive on Monday, she was poorly yesterday but feeling better today. Just waiting to hear what further impact it will have, DGS etc.
Sweetpeasue so, so annoying that the surgery messed up so badly. My surgery has two sites too and it’s important they make it clear which site your appointment is with. Your casserole sounded lovely. I’m not a lover of cooking either tbh. I cook because we need to eat. I try to make fresh but I’m afraid when I’m busy I do rely on ready meals at times. I find the dried cooking sauces good as they mix all the different ingredients for you. Bit of a cheat but needs must. I hope you get sorted with an effective cream soon. Steroid creams aren’t good in areas where the skin is thin. There’s a lot of choice around and can be a bit of a minefield I find.
HVDY mmm home made bread😋. Your surgery don’t sound too good either, surely they should have been in touch about your DH’s results by now? Sounds like you are right about the diagnosis. It’s a shame how what you’ve done in the past can affect your health now but things just weren’t the same then were they? My DH always worries about asbestos because he worked with that in the past. I hope your DH gets sorted soon. Gorgeous photo of DGD, just beautiful. You are very lucky. Hope the other Girl gets sorted soon. So difficult.
Ellie-Anne I’m so sorry you’ve been upset. I think when we suffer with MH issues then it does make us more sensitive. I’d be exactly the same. Your son and friends probably didn’t mean to upset you and likeDoodle said, the feeling will wear off. I hope you are feeling better today and I agree with HVDY that AD’s will help you I’m sure.
Doodle good that you enjoy your reading. I only ever read when I’m on holiday and I always tell myself to keep it up when I get home but then life takes over again and I never do. Good news about your DH.
Wyllow good to see you still popping in. Hang on in there. We’re here ❤️.
Love to everyone else. Will try to pop back later. I’ve worked this morning and don’t have to pick DGS up today so I think I’ll go for a swim then I’m getting my nails done. What a treat! Love to those not personally mentioned too. Hope everyone is having a good day xx

Scaredycat Wed 27-Sept-23 16:10:06

HVDY- your baby GD is absolutely beautiful- what a lovely little face. Had to laugh at the skunk outfit- never seen one of those before. She,d look cute in a bin bag !!
Hope your surgery take note of your research and help your DH.
Hope you are having a good day with your Son at home.
Nadateturbe- I hope to see my DH tomorrow in her lunch break - it’s over 2 weeks since I,ve seen her.
The photography group is a U3A one - we don’t do any technical stuff just have monthly subjects then get together to see what we have all done.
Hope you are feeling better today.
Candy- you are so right about how reliant we are on phones and iPads etc. I would be lost without them now. Glad yours is back in business .
Hope your DD soon recovers from the dreaded Covid and that DGS doesn’t catch it. It’s debilitating tiredness that takes the getting over.
Good thinking to have a swim and then manicure- things just for you . There are such beautiful nail colours now.
Wyllow- sending hugs and wishing we could all pop round and do it in person xx

Today we have been packing as we are off for a couple of weeks to 2 places we love by the sea in UK. Feel much more relaxed about it than normal- thank goodness.
Then this morning DH ultra sound came through for next week!! That’s Sods Law isn’t it- however he was able to change
it for as soon as we get home- phew!!
Hopefully the Internet will be ok but sometimes it is a bit hit or miss!! Will keep in touch when I can. We are travelling on Friday.
Love to all - will pop in later hopefullyxxxx

HowVeryDareYou2 Wed 27-Sept-23 17:03:40

Nadateturbe When I left home, 5 days after my 20th (on DH's 21st), I couldn't even boil an egg! We moved in together and he taught me to cook. I cooked every night, for all of us, until our sons left home. Yes, Son2 still teases me. Do you take a lot of photos? I've got mine on my mobile for the last 12 years. Son1 has got thousands on his.

Candy6 Thanks. Did you get your nails done? What colour?

ScaredyCat Thanks. Lovely to be off on holiday somewhere. I'm envious smile but hope you have a great time.

Another day of the GP not getting in touch. I handed in the information I've Googled (doctors don't like patients to Google things but what are we meant to do?). Son2 has gone, he didn't want to stay for dinner grin. Seabass with coconut and lemongrass butter. New potatoes, Meditteranean vegetables. DH will have "something not foreign", he says grin. Hope ALL BDers have been ok today x

Doodle Wed 27-Sept-23 21:12:28

HVdY love that baby photo though what she’ll think when she grows up I don’t know. She such a pretty baby. Not good the surgery haven’t been in touch. I’m, like you I Google things too. I’d try phoning tomorrow and see if they’ve read the paperwork yet. How has your DH been today? He sounds a bit like my dad, nothing foreign just a meat and two veg man. 😊
Your Dinner sounds nice though. Hope you had a nice time with your son last night.
Scaredycat do you still contribute photos to your U3A group? What’s this weeks subject? Is it your DD or DGD you are meeting tomorrow? Be nice to have a catch up. Do you have lunch together somewhere? I’m so pleased you are relaxed about going away for a bit. I can remember back on the thread when you used to get so anxious about going somewhere.
I Hope you have a lovely time and the weather is kind to you.
Good you were able to move the ultrasound appointment.
Candy I think you are making good use of your caravan. By having one that’s not too far away you can pop over for a night when you want and I’m sure you’re right, it does you good. We used to have one on the south coast. Took us nearly 2 hours to get to and work commitments meant we couldn’t go that much. Now we are both retired I wish we still had it. We still go down there but stay in a Premier Inn. Not the same as having your own space.
Hope your DD feels better soon and your DGS doesn’t get it.
I expect I read more because I’m fully retired whilst you are still working and looking after your DGS too.
Hope you enjoyed your swim. What colour nails did you have?
nadateturbe I don’t cook much either. I bake two things. Fruit cake for DH and brownies (Betty Crocker) for DGS.
The rest of the time we have mostly chicken with veg and dry roasted potatoes. Fruit for pud. Steak on Sundays. Not massively interesting but DH had to avoid salt, fat and sugar.😱not much left.
Yes the bread was good but as there’s only 2 of us here it was difficult to get through a loaf. My brother used to take me to the library when I was younger. I have always loved books and reading. I don’t concentrate as much now as I used to. I think the internet has made us all flit more frequently from one thing to another and we don’t concentrate as much.
Sweetpeasue Ellie Anne and Wyllow thinking of you all.
How have things been today?

Wyllow3 Wed 27-Sept-23 22:03:25

Thank you for the love here and sending it back xx

Candy6 Wed 27-Sept-23 22:47:34

Hi again
Scaredycat lucky you going away for a nice break. I hope you enjoy it. Good time to go now the crowds have died down. Good that you don’t feel anxious about it too.
HVDY yes, I got my nails done thanks. I went for a selection of autumnal colours. Seems to be the trend now to paint different colours and I like it (me being a trend setter and all that😂). The girl that does them is only young but is so talented and it’s nice to see her business thriving. She’s quite cheap too compared to the more upmarket salons. Shame GP didn’t get in touch though, I hope you hear something soon. Your dinner sounds delicious, hope you enjoyed it.
Doodle yes I know what you mean about the caravan, but they are expensive to keep but I think ours is worth it. Premier Inns are good. We stay in them whenever we go somewhere else. I think you know what you’re getting and they are always clean. Nice breakfast too! I’ve had autumnal nails and I’m pleased with them. I enjoyed my swim too thanks. Good you enjoy your books. I don’t concentrate too well either. I hadn’t really thought it was an age thing. I get bored of things easily and rarely enjoy TV anymore. Maybe that’s why. Hope you’ve had a good day.
Wyllow sending ❤️
❤️ To everyone else too. Tired now. Night all

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 28-Sept-23 07:45:55

Doodle Yes, my husband likes plain foods, although he does like a good curry (he always has a Jafrezi or Madras when we order one or go out). Hope your husband is getting on ok.

Candy6 Your nail colours sound very pretty. I've done my myself (plum). I need to do my toenails, not that anyone sees them. They're lilac at present.

Not sure where this so-called storm is, but it seems to have missed us so far. Hope ALL BDers manage to have a decent day x

Doodle Thu 28-Sept-23 19:42:12

Candy as autumn is my favorite time of year I like the idea of autumn coloured nails. My DGDs both have fancy nails with different colours or patterns. My nails are awful. Really short and un cared for. I should do better.
Glad you enjoyed your swim. Are you at the caravan this coming weekend too?
HVDY my DH loves beef curry. I like a mild one. I do enjoy spicy food but only for a couple of mouthfuls then I can’t take any more. We’ve had a good day weather wise too. Been quite mild really. Going out to John Lewis tomorrow for lunch. Not been there for ages. I want to look for pressy for DGDs 21st (not for a few months yet) and to see what they’ve got in winter coats. Bought a really good rainproof one there years ago at a very reasonable price and it’s still going strong. I now need a warm coat for the winter (a bigger size 🥲🥲)
Wyllow sending love and hugs. Xx
Back later.

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 28-Sept-23 20:07:08

Doodle It was a roast turkey dinner then strawberry gateau and cream, at the day centre. smile
