My daughter ( 33 ), was recently diagnosed with type two diabetes. She already has anxiety issues, and also has narcolepsy. With the anxiety she is struggling to adapt to new ways of eating etc. If anyone has words of wisdom, please help.

My husband was diagnosed with T2 diabetes three years ago. He brought his glucose level down to normal in three months by eating a low carb diet, he also lost 35 pounds in weight. There is a lot of information on line, particularly by Michael Mosley and the video The Truth About Carbs on You Tube is very good.

Porridge isn’t the best for Diabetes!

No? Perhaps you didn't read through my thread, when you have had it as long as I have, you get to know what suits you.

I'm another one who can't eat porridge. I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes over 30 years ago and unfortunately porridge sends my BG level sky high.

I used to follow the NHS guidelines and ate porridge and wholemeal bread, pasta etc, but my diabetes wasn't controlled. It wasn't until I started regular testing and my reaction to different foods that my BG level was controlled. I hardly ever eat any pasta, rice, porridge, potatoes, pastry, etc now.

Overthehill, I had read it. My mum thinks a bit like that so has never brought her levels down. I tried the cinnamon thing as I had GD and a colleague told me about it and I love good cinnamon. But it didn’t work. When I was still following what the dietitian advised, I found that I could manage porridge made with cream and cinnamon so long as I had a walk afterwards. But not always possible to do so. And now breakfast and me don’t mix.
