travelsafar I think that is a natural reaction. We are not 21 and it is major surgery. I am aware hospitals treat hip and knee replacements like day cases but in the early 70's both were admitted for a couple of weeks and many were sent to convalesce for another two.

At least things are moving along and as you said, you will be painfree.

Recieved xray results today I need my other hip doing.
Why is that making me feel so tearful I know it will mean I will be pain-free but somehow it fills me with dread. 😔

Loobs I do not understand how some of us go through hell painwise post op yet others are fit as fleas. It is the thought of the pain which is putting me off having my right knee redone. I hope it will "see me out".

kirkcubbin yes you should but it will be many months down the line because you do not want to dislocate or loosen your hip.

I know there is a plastic gadget to apply socks but it is beyond me so I struggle but I can twist and turn having had both knees replaced.

After the hip are you ever able to cut toenails or put on socks easily?
Also I find if I do a long walk I have back pain and have to lie down . After 10 weeks.

So I now find I have to go through another knee replacement. I had the right knee done (partial) in Feb 2020 (just as Covid hit) and found it really painful for the first 4 weeks or so. It was totally worth it but I really don't want to go through it again - I almost had a panic attack when I walked back into the private hospital last month (done under the NHS though) and was so stressed I decided to try a cortisone injection to put off the evil day!. It worked for about 3 weeks but then the pain returned and was far worse (in fact I ended up in A&E as my doctor thought my cruciate ligament had torn) and so I have to face the fact that I have to have it done. It will probably be early next year - the wait is about 18 weeks from seeing the consultant and I am unable to see him until early September. I am taking ibuprofen and paracetamol, Naproxen just sends me to sleep. Do you think that taking the 'branded' painkillers is more effective than the cheap supermarket ones?? I've started using a walking stick for when it gets too painful but actually find using a crutch much better.

Physios appear to be taking over the orthopod jobs, something I disagree with.

A friend was told by a physio she could not have her knee replaced as she is too old. She is 80 but has her wits about her.

Why do my legs still ache? Had right TKR Feb 2023, right THR Aug 2023. Had Covid just after Christmas, then chest infection. Ended up with lung function test, breathing into tubes.
6 week wait to get letter from hospital, nothing that needs urgent attention, and appointment beginning of July.
I am wondering if I have long covid. Has anyone else had anything similar.
Have been on this thread around operation times and it was so helpful.

Yes that’s what I thought because it really hurts with even the slightest pressure and I am getting bad back aches after about 5 minutes gardening which is also new.
It has to be something. I wish I knew what.

All I can think of are CT or MRI scans. There could have been minuscule movement of the cement or even a tiny crack which the x-ray would not necessarily show as it concentrates on metal.

I had an X-ray Charleygirl which seemed ok but there has to be an explanation for this pain
The head honcho physio did say she could refer me for further tests if she thought it necessary so I will keep my fingers crossed annd aim for that.

silverlining you need an xray at the very least to see if there has been any movement but it is encouraging to hear you are walking so well.

People find us totally by accident but it is not for the lack of bumping etc.

Thanks Aveline, the massages are quite painful ( they say they can feel a lot of tension in the ‘ glute’area) which they hope to loosen. Hence the pain I suppose.
I only have one more to go, and am hoping the physio will refer me for further checks.
I did 18,000 steps yesterday so happily it’s not affecting my walking.

Oh dear. I'm sorry to hear you're having such trouble. I must say that I don't see how massages could help really. Good luck anyway. You might be better seeing an orthopod rather than a physio.

Having to post 5 times before our posts on the hip and knee thread is surely unacceptable. I don’t know why this has always happened.

Brilliant to see we are still here despite the lack of us ever being on Active posts, so anyone who spots us has to search via health forum. Welcome and well done to those who do.

I have been away but came home today early because of the constant rain. It’s nearly summer but hardly got even a snifter of spring.
I mention a while ago about the couple of heavy falls I had last summer/ autumn and am currently seeing a physio because my hip has started to hurt with even the slightest pressure,
I am getting deep massages from the physio but feel worse after than before. I have one more massage next week before seeing the chief physio following week. She mentioned maybe sending me for further tests if the massages don’t help. They don’t and have actually made things worse,
Strangely I can walk ok but I had necrosis with the hip hop op and can’t help wondering if this is why I have this pain.
Not expecting medical advice as I have to discuss this with physio but it’s really bothering me,
