The worst experience I dodged was in the Caribbean it was a week at a cheapie all inclusive, the resort itself was actually nice but had the chef from hell.
The first night was a BBQ which was a whole leg of a cow being cooked kebab style and was half raw, everything else looked awful, unsurprisingly the queue for the doctor was a mile long next morning.
We spent the whole week in an alcoholic haze because the only food that was safe was bread, bananas and rum, we didn’t even bother to complain, just thankful to survive.

As you become older your immune system becomes weaker and more vulnerable to bacteria, hopefully you will be more experienced and know the risks.
I travel widely and am very careful about food but I did get caught once eating undercooked eggs, in Swaziland!, I was ill for a day and now avoid eggs on holiday.

I avoided a fresh fruit salad in Madeira just in case, ate a mousse instead and ended up vomiting all night!

Why do people try to correct your grammar in an argument online?

The folks who correct your grammar (or spelling) when arguing with you on a subject unrelated to your grammar or spelling have one or a combination of three motives I can think of:

They know of no way of refuting the argument you are making, and wish to derail you by tripping you up on a minor technical error;

They know of no way of refuting the argument you are making, and wish to discredit you by casting doubt in others’ minds as to whether you know anything, because you made a mistake in spelling or grammar;

They are habitually insufferable pedants, who make a show of knowledge without bothering to try to make it relevant to the topic at hand.

If the response to an argument you’ve just outlined is a smug “you’re” because you typed “your,” you can bet the person trying to counter your argument has little in the way of real ammunition.

In other words, it is just plain RUDE.

To get back to the point made in the OP about Salmonella, antibiotic resistance etc, this is not new! 50 years ago, when I was studying microbiology in university, research had come out about this topic. At that time, antibiotic resistant Salmonella had been isolated from children who had never been treated with antibiotics but who lived on farms. The theory was that the children had picked up the bugs from contact with animals. The concern then (and now) was that the resistance could be passed on to other species of bacteria - they can exchange genes with each other.

Since then, the use of antibiotics in animals has been significantly reduced but antibiotic resistant bacteria have been increasing due to over use in humans.

I think it's unlikely most cases of illness caused by Salmonella are from imported produce - Salmonella is very prevalent in native animals and birds and doesn't need to be imported!
