Do you have enough meds to get you through to January?

Apparently some don't check they have a ten day supply to get them through the festivities. Pharmacies may be working, but certain suppliers might not be.
Hope this problem, which was highlighted last week on TV, doesn't affect any of us, or our loved ones.

Yes thank you. Important reminder though.

Sparklefizz Thu 21-Dec-23 09:59:49

Yes thank you, I planned ahead. My surgery takes 7 days to produce a repeat prescription plus there have been supply issues at the pharmacy, so today would definitely be far too late to start the process.

Good luck everybody.

Thanks for publicising that reminder.
My DH reminded me to reorder yesterday as our Boots need at least two weeks to get meds in even in normal circumstances, never mind two long bank holidays following two weekends.

Grandmabatty Thu 21-Dec-23 10:19:54

Yup. Ordered my prescription by email on Thursday, picked it up on Monday. All good

Chardy Thu 21-Dec-23 11:33:30

Yes I think the pharmacy attached to our surgery now needs 7 days for a repeat prescription.

I’ve just picked them up Chardy. I nearly got ahead of myself when I went to bed last night and got my morning pills out to take, realised before I popped them into my mouth 🤣

Had my supply delivered last week but I always have a least a week's worth of all my tablets to be in the safe side. Order my tablets via NHS app usually on a Saturday they are shown to be approved on Monday and sometimes I get them on a Monday but never later than Wednesday.

Our problem is that there are restricted hours for collection at our local pharmacy, less than three and a half days out of five per week. The pharmacist owns three other pharmacies two hundred miles away and attempts to manage them all himself. This week prescriptions can only be collected during four hours each day, and they are not sure how long they will be open tomorrow (Friday.)
My prescription is there but I couldn't collect it yesterday because no pharmacist was present, or this morning at 11 o'clock, no pharmacist again, but hopefully one will be there from 2 to 6 pm. this afternoon.

I have a diary reminder to re-order. Boots here in the SW take about a week to fill the prescription and sometimes they give me an IOU for one item. At the moment I've waited 3 weeks for it to arrive though I do have a spare.

Not a joke - but my hypochondriac friend had enough to last all of 2024!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 21-Dec-23 12:51:54

I always have some in hand and think well ahead because now our pharmacy wants seven days’ notice and one of my medications can be hard for them to source so sometimes not available even then.

I have also stocked up with sufficient food to see the birds through!

Redhead56 Thu 21-Dec-23 12:56:23

I ordered my meds a week early.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 21-Dec-23 12:59:15

The cut off date for our surgery was 10th December.

Doodledog Thu 21-Dec-23 13:01:58

I use a delivery service, and they have been very efficient. My surgery only allows ordering when you are within X days of the last prescription, but as I have a couple of conditions that need medication, and these were diagnosed separately, I have to order twice a month, a few days apart. I thought the second lot would arrive after Christmas, but I got them about three days after ordering, which is much faster than usual.

SueDonim Thu 21-Dec-23 15:50:48

I tried to order mine in advance but was told that because I won’t run out until 25th Dec I couldn’t order early. So that was useful. hmm. As a concession, they’re now allowing me to have them tomorrow - let’s hope the chemist will have in stock what I neeed, which is not always a given.

Otoh, they have given me something I didn’t even request! 🤷‍♀️

BlueBelle Thu 21-Dec-23 16:06:45

I ordered two months worth this December

GrannyGrunter Thu 21-Dec-23 16:28:43

I always ensure I put in a repeat prescription before any holiday periods and always have plent of paracetamol, Ibuprofen and medicated throat sweets in my cupboard.

Callistemon21 Thu 21-Dec-23 17:19:25

Thank you for the reminder.

Forgot to book a blood test though! I must phone tomorrow.

eazybee Thu 21-Dec-23 17:23:27

Collected mine today; a long queue!

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 21-Dec-23 17:25:59

My doctor wouldn’t let me do that BlueBelle. I always have to wait a certain time before re-ordering - once they rejected the request because it was a little too early for their system but didn’t tell me, thank goodness for having sufficient in hand!

My surgery and pharmacy are excellent.I ordered my prescription at 8pm Friday evening through Patient Access and got a message at 10 am on Saturday from the pharmacy saying it was ready for collection. Thay will deliver with 24 hours notice.
A pharmacist is always available to speak to if necessary. If you have a new medication the pharmacist will ring you after 10 or so days to see if there have been any reactions to the new medication.
I'm very happy with the service received from both my GP surgery and pharmacy. They sre situated about half a mile apart.

Pittcity Thu 21-Dec-23 18:13:13

I use an online pharmacy which reminds me to reorder well before I run out and contact the GP for approval. They usually arrive with the postie within 2 days.
Holidays are accounted for automatically.

Our pharmacy orders DH and sends a text when they are ready.

MrsKen33 Thu 21-Dec-23 19:14:13

Yes, ordered them last week.
