Any one else with an Osteoporosis diagnosis?

I had osteoporosis. Diagnosed in my 50s when I asked for a scan as my mother had it severely with spine fractures. I took Alendronic acid. Was put on a drug holiday after about 7 years. Long term use of the drug is not recommended it causes some damage and has resulted in some unusual fractures. I take a calcium and vit D supplement. My diagnosis was reduced to osteopenia about 6 years ago and my last scan showed good bone density for my age, although my spine isn't as good as my hips.

I have osteoporosis and have had 2 dexa scans now in the last 3 years.
I've lost 1 inch in height
In the past 3 years I have made sure to walk at least 3 miles per day.
My latest scan result said there was a significant improvement in my bone density.
I take aledronic acid once a week and follow a good diet 70% of the time as I am not perfect but do try to be conscious of healthy eating

Yes. I’m nearly 66 and after a Dexa scan 6 months ago I was diagnosed with it. I take an Alendronic Acid tablet once a week and have chewable calcium tablets every day. My GP advised that in many cases, taking the meds as directed results in the condition completely reversing itself. She’s seeing me again in 12 months for review and another scan. I also had to visit my dentist for a check up and X-ray as Alendronic Acid can cause jaw problems - GP stressed the importance of good oral hygiene and regular dentist visits while taking it.

Never had a Dexa scan, was told I must have osteoporosis when had a stress fracture in the spine following small fall when I was 77 years of age. Only previous break was my scapula following a very bad fall.

Take Aledronic tab weekly, have been told it will be stopped after five years continuous use,

Yes it has given me much better nails than I had previously , and my pubic hair has grown back (although I did think this might be more due to the HRT vaginal tablets I insert twice weekly now, as a protection against UTI's)

Monica I don’t want to tempt fate but I ve had a few nasty falls without breaking anything weird isn’t it

I was on alendronic acid for seven years but am currently having a break which some people recommend.
I never had any side effects from it.

I am in the strange position where I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis but have no obvious symptoms. I understand that I have at some point cracked a couple of thoracic vertibrae, probably when I slipped and fell on a wet grass slope 15 years ago, but while I can remember being in a lot of pain afterwards, it wasn't enough for me to feel the need to see a doctor.

I have never otherwise broken a bone, I do Tai Chi, walk and do exercises to keep me flexible - and have done for years. The physiotherapist said there was nothing that could be added to what I already did - and I have no pain.

I fall over several times a year - I am dyspraxic and can trip over a postage stamp. This year my ankle 'went' as I was walking, quite fast down a cambered slope and I went base over apex, but I was up, on my feet and continuing my mad gallop in about 30 seconds. long before those rushing to help me could reach me.(practice makes perfect)

I receive injections of denosumab with no problems.

Granny23 there are a lot of different drugs you can take (I have a denosumab injection every 6 months) so ask your doctor to change to something else.

Strange side effects!
I am a newly diagnosed osteoporosis having been osteopenia previously.
I’m on vit D with calcium and hormone.
I’m trying to do exercises and I always walk a lot.
The exercises are minimal and my back aches doing them.

i have just checked the NHS and other sites on google. None mention any of the symptoms mentioned by Granny23.

It may be the result of alendronic acid and some other drug you take being incompatible. In which case the sooner you see a doctor the bette.

I am on a weekly dose of Alendronic Acid and have been for about 9 months. I have had no side effects at all.

I take a weekly alendronic acid tablet and a calcium supplement, but haven’t had any side effects at all.

That’s the same Llamedos my infusion has a different name but it’s still alendronic acid
Never known anyone have those complex side effects

I take a weekly pill called Alendronate (might have a different name in the UK as I am in Canada) to treat my osteoporosis. Been taking it for years and haven’t had any of the side effects you have, might be a good idea to tell your dr and possibly change your meds.

PS my mother wasn't on any of that medication, this was many years ago.

Ditto, except I am on Alendronic Acid infusion, every two years. I was diagnosed over nearly forty years ago, but eventually couldn't tolerate the tablets, hence the infusion.
In my thirties, i had the hip of an eighty year woman, due to long term steroid use.

I wish my nails would grow.

I don't know, but what I do remember is that my mother started growing a third set of some of her teeth in her late 70s, 80s. As she'd had her teeth removed in her 50s (as they did in those days for whatever reason!) it caused her a lot of problems and she had to have them removed.

I've always thought it would be a good idea if we could grow a third set of teeth in, perhaps in our 60s.

It's not a very late wisdom tooth coming through, is it?
