Why do some people suffer and not others?
I am a migraine sufferer which is pretty much under control however I will also get a headache with anything else such a cold.
His lordship however, never ever gets so much as flicker, not that I wish him pain it just seems strange.

Hi. I’d like to know the answer too. I never had a headache until I hit 50 then I started with dizziness and awful headaches the Dr says their vestibular migraines.
But I often have ordinary headaches too which usually start during the evening through the night and into the morning. There a nuisance!

I have headaches most days. I don't think OH has ever had one, and my mother once said, in a shocked voice, "I had a headache today, I had to take an aspirin".

I had frequent headaches in the morning but it comes from having arthritis in my neck and once I'm up and about it goes. DH has crushing migraines which are getting less frequent and he has long avoided his triggers - cheese, red wine and oranges strangely.

headaches have been part of my life since childhood. they started when I was 7. Headaches and migraine.

However, when I hit 60 they began to ease, first the migraine then the rest.

I often contemplate the years of my life that have been wasted because I was completely prostrate with a headache.

DH has the, but nowhere as badly. DS is completely unaffected, although his wife is a migraineur, but at least he is accustomed to it.

It’s weird how some people say they almost never get headaches. I can’t imagine that! I’ve had migraines since I was 11yo. I’m 69 now and am still waiting to grow out of them, as I was told would happen. grin

Headaches have been a huge part of my life. I don't even like people touching my head as it can bring on a headache.

Husband however rarely suffers with one

I suffered almost daily headaches until I hit the menopause.
Every cloud…….

WonderfulLife Fri 26-Jan-24 07:59:37

I always get headaches when there are gales and winds and it affects my sinuses. My late husband got terrible migraines and if driving had to pull over until the flashing lights had stopped. It is something that many people live with and learn how to live with, just like any other illnesses people have.

My son gets migraine as a child it wiped him out for a few days. He still gets them but they are more controlled now with better medication.
I only get headaches if I forget to take my blood pressure medication. The headache slowly starts and ends up painful a sign that I forgot medication. Even when I remember to take my medication the headache persists until I take paracetamol.

I suffered constantly with migraines and other headaches once I hit menopause. After ten years or so I was started on antidepressants and the migraines/headaches disappeared. I can only assume they were caused by low seratonin levels, triggered by menopause.

I have lots of headaches due to my eyesight ,throughout my life. My glasses have to be exquisitely straight…
DHwas gobsmacked when I told him it was a good week if I hadn’t had a bad head for at least 5 days. He had about two a year, ditto my fortunate offspring.

I get migraine aura but without the headache. I can’t take statins because they trigger an optical migraine but I’ve been taking sterol tablets recently and unfortunately getting these auras almost every day so I’m going to stop taking them to see if that helps.

My migraines and headaches are much less frequent than they used to be. Thankfully.
Migraines[cut out/reduced some fatty foods], headaches - i figured out eventually that most of mine were caused by my head getting too cold.

I havent let a hairdresser wash my hair for decades. They are all far too heavy handed.
Instead I wash it at home before I go.

I started having episodic migraines at age 8 and throughout my life, but when I hit the menopause they became really bad and I would have to spend three days in bed. I'm now 75 and have suffered from chronic migraine for many years. I'm going through a bad patch now and am having bad headaches every night, unless I take Imigran to stop it. The problem is, you can end up with medication over use headache, where you have even more pain. I have tried many preventive treatments with little success, and my neurologist has now put me on a very new medication called Rimegepant. As you can imagine, this condition really drags me down. I wonder if there are any other chronic migraine sufferers out there?

Oldnproud Sun 11-Feb-24 18:47:53

No longer regularly suffering from migraines is the one and only good thing that the menopause brought me!

I do still get headaches sometimes, but they are a walk in the park compared with those! I suffered with for the 40 or so years before the menopause.

Muffintop Thu 25-Jul-24 19:22:58

Migraine aura, does anyone get these when they have sleepless nights .
I have been getting them , after bad nights , sun, and Internet use, really fed up ,scared , Been having them since I turned 70, nothing before, I am now full of anxiety,

Anyone else suffering, any ideas for coping ,

Ilovecheese Thu 25-Jul-24 20:16:09

Another one here whose headaches stopped after the menopause.

boheminan Thu 25-Jul-24 21:16:29

Muffintop. There's an interesting thread on GN covering 'silent' or 'ocular' migraines (from March 2023). A lot of GN'rs suffer from them, and yes, they are frightening. I think you may be reassured having a quick peek at the old thread.

I suffer with barometrical migraines. Storm in the weather forecast, that's my headache on the horizon! Sinutab Max strength is the only tablet that fixes it if taken at first sign.

Mandymoo456 Mon 29-Jul-24 22:39:22

Hi I have had migraine all my life retinal silent ones and also have glaucoma drops, I've also got myopia very high prescription, it's hard to cope the drs don't realise how scary it is,

Mandymoo456 Mon 29-Jul-24 22:40:54

Me too, my trigger is the weather changing pressure ,I might try these and see if they work for me

Moonwatcher1904 Mon 29-Jul-24 22:59:00

I started with a lot of headaches when I went on the pill when I was 18. It wasn't until I stopped taking it after I was sterilised that they stopped. Then in my 40's I started getting really bad migraines bad enough that they absolutely floored me right until I was in my 50's then they suddenly stopped. I rarely get headaches now but in the last few weeks I have been getting a really sharp pain in my head which lasts about 10/20 seconds. No other side effects. I try not to worry about it but I am 72. I take Anadin Extra if I need to as it's the only thing that works for me. I have CoCodamol for other pain (osteoarthritis) from the doctor but that doesn't seem to work for headaches.

crazyH Mon 29-Jul-24 23:29:46

I don’t think I’ve ever had a headache - every other ache you can or cannot mention, but a headache, no, never and I’m in my late 70s ..
