Tonsil absess

Just been to chemist for pharmacy first. What a brilliant service.
Have had slight sore throat and very sore upper soft palate. As there were no appointments at the dentist decided to try the chemist.
I was very suprised when the chemist found an absess by a tonsil and swollen glands.
The chemist was so kind. Under the new scheme he gave me a course if antibiotics.
I am very suprised that I wasn't in extreme pain from the absess. Has anyone else had this ?

This is quinsy isn’t it, I had it as a teenager, and it was agonising. I had antibiotics, but the thing that cured mine I think was gargling with TCP. It was disgusting, but within two days it had zapped it.

I thought it might be quincy but would have expected to be in severe pain

DD had it when she was 16. She was in agony with it, it was very distressing. We only found out this was the problem when she had her tonsils removed a few months later and the surgeon said they were big holes in them where the abcesses had been that would have acted as constant sources of re-infection.

My 40 year old son had it, but ignored the symptoms (and he, a Doctor !). Had to be admitted to hospital .

Your excellent pharmacist must have discovered the abscess before it became agonisingly painful. What a great find he was! I think that, increasingly, more of us will be taking advantage of their skills.

The pharmacist was brilliant. So thorough and kind. The new pharmacy first is excellent .

DD was hospitalised with quinsies; she was on her gap year at the time and far from home. It was very worrying.

I'm sure the anti-biotics will work well, Nana56, hope you feel better soon.

I started a thread about how wonderful my experience was with a recent visit to a pharmacy and how I came away with some antibiotics for an infected foot a very very thorough examine and now all is well
I gave a good review on the NHS website

My GD has been hospitalised twice recently with quinsies.
They were drained, once under anaesthesia.
She was very poorly both times.
I had not heard of this since I was very young.

I just hope that when folks realise how good the pharmacists are that they too don’t become overloaded and appointments difficult to obtain

I hope she's on the mend now, annsixty.

Living in Spain for many years we got used to pharmacists checking blood pressure, providing medication for conjunctivitis etc. Glad the UK has woken up at last to the benefits of pharmacists.

I remember having quinsy and it was horrible. Later, I had my tonsils out.

My GD has now had her tonsils out and after an infection which required being hospitalised again she is now fine , Thankyou.

Did you know, because I didn’t that as we grow, adenoids disappear
This was a complete surprise to my Gad and I.
