Full fat milk or semi skimmed.

Lots of celebrities, rugby clubs and of course dairy farmers are extolling the benefits of full fat milk.

My daughter’s friend is to be on GB news this evening talking about this, she and her husband have a large dairy farm.

We eat full fat natural yoghurt, I make my own butter from full fat cream but I just cannot do full fat milk in tea.

Since having to drink milk at school I just cannot drink milk alone or on cereal.

My mother used to buy gold top milk and poured the cream from the top in her coffee every morning🤮

Are you skimmed, semi skimmed or full fat fans?

Would you be willing to change for the health benefits?

I don't drink milk, because what is sold now as full-fat milk bares no resemblance to the milk sold when I was a child and did drink milk. However, for cooking, baking, making cacoa I use full-fat milk and would never dream of using anything else.

I likewise buy full-fat yoghurt, cheese etc. not having a problem with putting on weight - my problem is not losing it!

I drink buttermilk for preference and sometimes add cream to it, and put cream the thicker the better in my coffee.

I use skimmed milk as we like large milky coffees in the morning and my husband has been advised to avoid saturated fat. I'm so used to it now that I find semi skimmed or whole milk are too greasy, particularly in tea.
I do use full-fat if I'm making batter or egg custard though.

it has to be full fat, semi skimmed just tastes like water downed milk, i drink a lot of boiled milk because of bowel problems, my mum only buys cravendale but i think it has a strange taste.

In Spain you can have coffee with condensed milk. (not good for weight watchers!) and it's delicious. Or just the condensed milk is good...(hence the need to WW)

I had to buy full fat today as the local Asda only had large full fat. I normally buy semi-skimmed. One thing I found is that full fat can be diluted with some water, becoming thinner which for me is better in tea.

The countries where low fat dairy products are consumed in abundance have higher incidence of heart disease than countries where full fat products are preferred. We’ve been brainwashed into thinking that fat is evil, whereas in truth is seems to protect us from some health problems such as osteoporosis. Full fat milk, not homogenised, from the local dairy farm (in glass) is delicious and infinitely preferable to the chalky water sold in supermarkets.

I always buy skimmed UHT milk..which actually tastes like semiskimmed fresh milk. its not as 'thin' as fresh skimmed milk.
A habit from my days living miles from nearest shops and ensuring milk for childrens cereal -although i used to buy UHT whole milk then.
I continue for convenience, and also recollections of my Slimming World days when skimmed is allowed without accumulating Syns!!!

I always had skimmed on my cereal and in my coffee.

I was put off by full fat milk at my infants school, when they used to warm it up in the winter in those little bottles. Yuck!!!

But now I have oat 'milk' no sugars.

Skimmed. Doorstop delivery

For cooking, I use full fat Asturiana milk.

I do not drink milk and my husband likes semi - Asturiana Milk as he enjoys his coffee with semi ..

I only buy when cooking a pastry that requires milk or a sauce ..

I only have an Italian Espresso (Lavazza) in the morning with a "pan tomaca" which is a piece of bread toasted and served with Extra virgin olive oil and a grated small tomato.

Weekends, a croissant out .. or Churros (fritters) with a hot chocolate at "Gines Chocolateria" which is the oldest in the Madrid Capital .. (since 1874). Close to Plaza Mayor.

Skimmed for everything, but it's really hard to get it lately. This week I had to go to 3 supermarkets before I found any

We get ours from Aldi or Sainsburys, we have never have a problem getting it.

I am mildy lactic intolerant. OK with hard cheese, but milk, yogourt, cottage cheese etc, make me feel ill and sick. The smell of milk makes me feel ill

I use UHT skimmed milk, when I need milk because it is flavourless and odourless, and for obvious reasons i would not swap it for full fat or fresh milk. My DS has the same problem.

However, DD loves milk and in an ideal world would only ever buy or use greentop milk fresh from the farm.

You can buy Milk with the lactose removed, I use the Arla one, it keeps very well too. I sometimes have one open for over a week and it still stays fresh.

Greentop milk. DD loves it. For me just the sight of the bottle has me feeling queezy, as for after its open with the cream from the milk clinging to the side of the bottle.

Excuse me why i go for a shrt stroll to settle my stomach

Raw drinking milk is still legal in England, Wales and Northern Ireland if sold directly Grammaretto - I suppose you must be in Scotland...

Semi skimmed milk for me .
I find skimmed too watery .
I'm not drinking as much tea as before .
I don't mind full fat , but recently I had a reaction to clotted cream and cheese .
I felt a bit sick and had stomach cramps and diarrhoea .
Could I have become lactose intolerant in my old age ?

I have become lactose intolerant at the age of 60!
If I’m having cheese or creamy foods I have a couple of tablets from Holland and Barrett that really do work.
I rarely eat puddings but love a cheeseboard and wasn’t prepared to give it up.

Here is a photo from the wee isle dairy website

Grammaretto Thu 22-Feb-24 05:59:09

Interesting thread!
I have full fat milk from glass bottles.
The dairy on the isle of gigha is run by a pasionate enthusiast for the health benefits of the milk.
It has to be pasteurised, by law, but they use an old fashioned slower process which doesn't destroy as many vital vitamins.
Its not homogenised and when people come for coffee they tell me how delicious the coffee is. 😀

It's expensive though so I also buy oat milk and other milk when needs must.

That was to M0nica

What about Daioni in Pembrokeshire (I think). Probably could tell you where they sell if you called them.

NotSpaghetti Wed 21-Feb-24 22:58:00

I'm sorry they don't make it M0nica - Ocado let me put it in my basket but maybe if I'd tried to check out it would have just said "no"!

How annoying.

I buy Grahams Smooth Gold (full fat and creamy) to put on cereals, in coffee or to make an occasional milkshake which I love but I use ordinary full fat for tea. I don't like semi skimmed, it has a sweetness to it, and I'd rather go without all together than use skimmed.

eazybee Wed 21-Feb-24 18:33:08

I drink skimmed, and like Sago, drinking my third of a pint of milk at school put me off milk for life, only take it in tea and coffee. I can smell it on people's breath when they drink full-fat.

Notspaghetti Moo was the brand I was buying, from Sainsbury and/or Waitrose. But it disappeared from the shops last summer and the website said/says still
Unfortunately, we have decided to cease production of Moo Organic Long Life Milk due to the lack of availability of organic milk all year round.

So I am back to non-organic UHT skimmed milk.
