DENTAL TREATMENT ON BENEFITS

Your friend would have to check with the Dental Practice to find out what the position is. Our Practice became Private about 18 months ago with no NHS at all. Those, like us either have to pay or find another Dental Practice.

And yes I am asking for a friend as she is not on the internet.

I'm on benefits and there isn't any dentist in my town who treats NHS patients. hugs

My dentist is now a private dentist and from what I understand has closed the books to new NHS patients. But is still continuing to treat all the NHS patients who are with them. But I was told recently that checkups will only be once a year (although the receptionist made mine in 9 months).

The dentist I go to is mainly private, but will take on NHS patients who are entitled to free dental treatment. Those who don't get free treatment have to either pay for private treatment or go elsewhere.

My NHS dentist has decided to go private. Last dentist in Weston-super-Mare that had NHS contract.
I am on 'benefits' (Pension Credit).
However, makes no difference if I do not pay, I can get no dental care now.

No, of course you can’t get free private dental work because you’re on benefits.
Only free NHS dental work (if you’re lucky enough to have a NHS dentist of course).

My family go to an NHS dentist who also does private work.
The NHS waiting list was very long, but of course she could see them quickly if they paid privately, including paying for a child to have treatment.

I believe the dentist will retain his current NHS patients but will only now have a private business.. so no more NHS.

Very very doubtful. We were nhs but dentist became private. No nhs work undertaken at all - children included. No nhs dentists in our local area at all now.

It will depend whether the dentist still has an nhs contract - which sounds unlikely. So, it will affect her.

No, if you can't pay, you don't have dental treatment.

Very much doubt it... when this happens , you either go private or taken off the books .....the only time I've known private dentists to see nhs patients is if its a child ( 0 to 16 years) and one or both parents are registered as private patients.....think your friend is getting mixed up
