We all know we should eat more veg, less meat, no processed food, less dairy, cut out alcohol... but it's no fun is it?
What would you REALLY like to eat if all foods were equally healthy.
My breakfast would be: white toast with oodles of butter and strawberry jam. Cup of tea.
Mid-morning: coffee and a cheese scone or shortbread. Perhaps a glass of sherry.
Lunch: Salad with lots of mayonnaise, thickly sliced ham and a French stick.
Afternoon: Scones with clotted cream and golden syrup plus a slice of Victoria sponge.
Evening meal: A nice roast with loads of potatoes, veg and Yorkshires. Pudding would be cheesecake with yet more cream.
Evening snack: Pringles or cheesy cheddars with chunks of cheese washed down with a good wine or port. Bar of chocolate.
Lovely jubbly.
If only .........

I would like a ploughman's lunch please. Several cheeses, tasty breads and pickles. Half a pint of bitter. Apple pie and icecream and coffee.

'The ducks are not harmed'.

Not sure you have thought this through.

cruel practise indeed

MissAdventure Mon 15-Apr-24 16:42:46

Ten countries (I think) have banned force feeding animals, and fois gras.

Why would that be?
Are they against ducks having a good time?

Even us lot don't queue up for a tube down our throats, as evidenced by the people who dread a gastroscopy.

Indeed, MissA. It’s no myth. The ducks queue up for the tube? The things people who eat this stuff tell themselves. 🙄

They hope to salve their conscience. I too would never contemplate eating it.

Anyway, back to piggy eating she said, hypocritically

A nice BLT would go down a treat, today.

Germanshepherdsmum, I live in SW France which is duck and foie gras central where foie gras is produced humanely.

It's a myth in YUK as to how it's produced. For a start the race of duck is enormous so they have a very big liver to start with. They are fed the corn only for about 11 days so not long enough to do any damage. they can still walk with happily. The tube is quite often not used. When it is the ducks queue up for it! Done properly the ducks are not harmed. Note to self, check out your supplier.

I recently watched a video of the process.
I won't post it here, but it was bloody horrific!

I've been going to Slimming World. OK - ish - but it is soul destroying!!! I have lost 12 lbs but OMG it's not great. The guilt if you Have lapsed. I want wine, chocolate, cheese and crisps!!!

My dinner tonight would have been really crispy bacon, chips and mushrooms, with a couple of slices of crusty bread, and a pot of tea.
Possibly an egg to dip that bread into.

Mmmmmmmn🤩

Ilovecheese

Bacon sandwiches, bacon and cheese sandwiches, bacon and mushroom sandwiches, bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches, etc. etc.

You have a real bacon-y theme going there😄

For breakfast I would go American and have American pancakes with really crisp streaky bacon and a fried egg, easy over, and lots of maple syrup; Fresh orange juice to drink.

Lunch would be Australian barramundi with chunky chips and peas, washed down with a bottle of Australian fizz - and the most important bit, eaten under the shadow of Sydney harbour bridge in Circular Quay.
PS I have done this!

Dinner would have to be a delicious Singaporean chicken curry, with rice and Bombay potatoes, with a bottle of Singaporean Tiger beer.

I have busy this morning and now need to go out so have not had my usual fruit and fibre cereal with banana and strawberry on top. I do get bored with it though and was just thinking I could just eat a double cheeseburger and small fries washed down with bottle of water oh and some B.B. sauce to dip the fries in. I can just see them calling out my order in McDonalds.

Mel1967 Mon 08-Apr-24 09:01:58

A cheese and crisp sandwich - on white bread & ready salted crisps 🤤

pooohbear2811 Mon 08-Apr-24 08:59:30

right now my answer to that would be anything, cheese toastie, roll and bacon, full Scottish, roll and square with fried onions, mince and cheesy tatties, takeaway, anything with texture.
Due to an ongoing swallowing problems for the last 13 months I have only had pureed food, and the last 3 weeks liquids only.
But hey ho such is life, at least on liquids Im not in pain

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 08-Apr-24 08:33:32

Yes, I do eat (local, free range) duck Dinahmo. That is not relevant to the vile, cruel process used to produce foie gras. I was very disappointed when the proposed ban on its importation into the UK wasn’t passed into law. I remember the likes of JRM wanting to continue indulging in it.

grandMattie Mon 08-Apr-24 04:46:55

I eat to live these days, as cooking for one is most uninteresting.
But my last meal would consist of a starter of smoked marlin with tomato and avocado. Then a rare steak with matchstick fries and a salad of all sorts of vegetables dressed with a garlicky dressing/mayo, excluding sweet peppers and cucumber, finally something chocolatey for dessert.

Gundy Mon 08-Apr-24 01:14:05

A typical breakfast for me is: peanut butter on toast with sliced banana coins and a yogurt - OR - a frittata made with fried diced potato and onions, handful of chopped broccoli, sometimes ham, with scrambled egg mixture pored over till set (I flip once)

A typical dinner for me is: a chicken or pork with veggies stir fry over brown rice - OR - shepherds pie - OR - roast chicken, potatoes and veggie sheet pan dinner - OR - a big dinner salad that has protein in it.

I only eat twice a day but my evening snacks: apples/fruit, pie or cookies, popcorn, cheese and cracker, hummus and carrots, nuts. (Only one, not all at once…)

I’d love to eat more ice cream, pastries, pies, hamburgers and French fries, shrimp, pizza!

Dinahmo Sun 07-Apr-24 22:19:58

My point was - do you eat duck?. If you do, you are eating the bird from which the majority of foie gras comes.

Esmay Sun 07-Apr-24 21:35:17

pascal30 - I don't think that I could eat that much in a day either .
I know some people who could though !
These days my appetite fluctuates a great deal .
I'll suddenly really fancy something then , go off it .
I'm trying to prepare a mixture of foods .
