3 weeks ago my husband had his aortic valve replaced at Papworth. He was home within 5 days and many of the debilitating symptoms he was experiencing have subsided .
We go to see the consultant surgeon in about 4 weeks and hopefully he’ll be signed off.
We had 2.5 yrs of worry and things getting steadily worse- once we got a date for the op things seemed to move quickly and it came and went in a blur really. Wishing you and your husband all the best. Remember to look after yourself too, my brother came to stay during the time my husband was in hospital and for a week afterwards which was a great help. x

I have no experience but hope it all goes well. Any surgery is a worry, but heart surgery especially so.

Mr C had open heart surgery last year, he was 80. A mitral valve repair along with an artery bypass was performed, he is now fully recovered nannyg4, home after a week. It is an understandably worrying time.

Has your husband been offered a repair via open heart surgery? If so please pm me if it helps. I’ll happily share what I can. We were told in advance that if the valve had deteriorated beyond repair a replacement would be made with a tissue valve, fortunately this wasn’t necessary.

Please try not to worry too much, pm me if it helps.

Does anyone have any experiences they would share re the above procedure..... DH may have to undergo surgery for this. I'm beside myself with worry and anxiety....he went into hospital...a week ago.. for what we thought was going to be a straightforward clip of the valve but this wasn't successful......
Thankyou.....
