Ingrowing toenail

Would like to know experiences of other grans about this. I have an ingrowing toenail, slip of the nailscissors. First chiropodist cut down side of nail. It grew back still ingrowing. Looked on line and tried pulling dental floss down the side. This worked but once I stopped doing it same problem. Chiropodist 2 did same as first one and said I could either keep going back or have an operation, £350, that would permanently take away side of nail. A diabetic friend says why not try for NHS clinic. She also said easy if you know how to flip the nail off painlessly. That did actually happen to me once when I stubbed toe under divan.
Grans, where do I go from here? I have tried looking in archive here but found nothing. Not a good searcher though.

I had a slightly ingrowing toenail, painful but not agonising, and the Podiatrist advised me to let it grow beyond the point where it was digging in. I had to gently run an orange stick under the corner each night and morning to encourage the nail away from the sore area, and within a few weeks it had grown through and was no longer aggravating the side of my toe.

I had one big toenail removed over 30 years ago and was told nothing would grow back, but odd crusty bits come up from what was the nail bed.
My other toenail is not good now, but I soak it and cut down the sides myself.
My dh had one removed ( privately, nhs don’t do it ) cost £450 but it’s grown bac, but is not in growing now.

Apparently if you have diabetes you can go to a NHS Podiatrist for free.
I was allowed to go because of my RA and the Podiatry clinic was pushing for it to be free for all with RA- because of infection.
I went for op re four ingrown toe nails. Big toe and the ones next to. Never regret having done.. Didn t take that long to heal and shoes on was ok.
If your doctor is agreeable he can recommend you go. Mine realised I had pain and infection. Good luck.
