Ulcers

If you have an ulcer you should have it treated at your GP’s surgery. I had one on my leg following an injury and it had to be professionally dressed several times a week. It took a long time to heal. Don’t leave it - an ulcer can quickly become infected and it’s all too easy to end up with septicaemia.

GSM is right. DD2 was admitted to hospital with sepsis from a ‘bit of a mark’ on her ankle. I will add that being disabled, she has little feeling from the knees down (and more),

She was told had she not been seen that night, she’d probably not have woken up the next morning. A close shave.

After a week in hospital, her ‘wound’ was dressed twice a week for best part of a year.

Oh yes, you really do need a nurse to dress and care for it for you.

The fact that the toe is inflamed is indicative that it is already infected. Please, please don’t delay.

I have had antibiotics for a week I will try and get see/speak to nurse not hopeful on a Monday morning I am putting dressings on but it's difficult due to pain thanks for replies.

Just sending a catch up I am now under vascular team awaiting a MRI ulcer on little toe no better I am dressing it the pain is horrendous at times ,I have very little blood flow on top of foot to start on blood thinners abdo further treatment until result of MRI .I am basically stuck indoors shoes sandals are a no no .We have cancelled our holiday for the end of June so very down at the moment .

I know it's a blow, having to cancel your plans, but at least things are moving forward, as it were.

It is Grandmabatty I can't believe a small ulcer can cause so much pain it keeps me awake most nights despite having tramadol .they say these things come to try us it certainly is!

I’m not sure if you have sought medical advice about the ulcer? I would expect you to be having it professionally dressed.

If it's any consolation, I was told that ulcers hurting means that they are still at a fairly shallow depth, where the nerve endings are.
When they are deeper, they tend not to hurt.

Yes it is amazing how quickly things change. I banged my heel on a drawer that was not properly closed and it made a small wound right at the back where I could not see properly. I just stuck a plaster on it but in a few days it had made a deep hole which has taken months to heel and bi-weekly visits to the surgery to have special dressings applied. Feet are precious and need looking after. I am much more careful now, daily moisturise and massage and attention to nails. I just ignored them before.

Update on ulcer I have appt for MRI and am waiting for appointment for vein mapping that sounds painful Gin!

Mri cancelled machine has broken down. I saw rheumatologist this week lots of blood tests ,I am getting bored, it's not me to sit in house most of the time ,we are thinking may hire a mobility scooter or wheel chair because looks like this is going to be a long job!!

Hiring a scooter sounds like a good idea hulahoop. I did just that a while ago, just to get me out and about. Keeps the spirits up.

Namsnanny was it easy to use I worry about not being able to steer it and running into things/ people.

Thought I would let you kind ladies know following MRI I have a blood clot in the main artery which goes down my leg the clot is in the stomach.I have a couple of options to think about.
