I had mine at 70, no side effects whatsoever.

I am immunocompromised, had both doses earlier this year, had side effects, but the consequences of catching shingles are far worse.

My DH had the first one on Tuesday and has a very achey arm, but apart from that seems okay.

I'm 65, had the vaccine a couple of weeks ago (it's in 2 doses, 6 months apart). I felt shivery, feverish and very tired, for 2 days. The lump on my arm was very red and very painful for 8 days. I won't be bothering to have the 2nd dose.

I felt the same, but was happy to have the second dose. A small price to pay.
My friend nearly lost the sight of his eye, due to shingles. Two years later, he is still suffering nerve pain.

Same as BlueBelle* - no problems whatsoever. The shingles was just one dose - was your vaccine ‘special’ HVDY?

I had no side effects with the first dose. However, after the second dose I had a very sore arm. I also experienced headache and fatigue for five days afterwards. That said though I am pleased to have been vaccinated as shingles can be quite severe.

I had 1 jab and had no after effects. Shingles is awful.

I have had the first Shingles vax and felt pretty ill for 5 days afterwards, and my arm came up in a painful red lump which didn't go away for about a fortnight ..... but I have a number of health conditions which may have meant I had a worse reaction than others.

Shingles is so awful and I've got friends who've caught it and are having a terrible time. One has painfully lost the sight in one eye and has been going to the eye hospital every month for a year.

I will be having the second vax.

The new shingles Vax is two doses, Georgesgran.

I only had one dose and if they only last 10 years do I get another

grandyma The bigger setback would be catching shingles in your current fragile state of health.

Have the vaccination, it is the lesser of two threats to your health.

I had the jab last year when I was 70- no problems at all. I had already had shingles twice and wouldn't want it again. I hope you choose to have it.

Thanks MD I thought perhaps in 2 doses for those with multiple health conditions to begin with.

I can only agree with others that a possible sore arm and feeling a bit yucky is far better than a dose of shingles, where some of the after effects can/may last for years.

Georgegran, I believe from now one , everyone in Scotland will receive the two dose vaccine.

I agree - not sure of getting 2nd dose as the side effects were horrendous - though not unusual after speaking to a Nurse Practioner at immunisation clinic.

In the past people who were immunosuppressed had to have a different vaccine, not a live one.

I think that's what Georgesgran may mean.

I still think the way they are doing it now is crackers, 70-79 or 65 last September, you’re eligible, but if 67 say, you have to wait until 70. Why not go downwards from 70?

Glad I was able to have mine at 70 and done with.

DH has cancer and had to have the non live shingles vaccine - i think it was two doses. I had the live one and pneumonia at same time. No issues.

I have had the 2 dose Shingrix vaccine. The first dose was no issues, but after the second dose I was shivery for the next day and had quite a red arm at the site of the vaccine. I'm 62 and no health issues.

I would plan to have a quiet few days after your shot, especially after the second one.
