Hayfever really bad

I lose my voice when hay fever strikes me. At present, talking is quite stressful. I have a preventive inhaler which is helping with the wheezing, but doesn't seem to reach my larynx. I've been taking fexofenadine year in, year out because tree pollens, unlike grass pollens, begin in February and don't know when to stop. To protect my sinuses, I have a highly effective steroid nasal spray.

I started Allevia last year - it's the only thing that helps me. I didn't have hay fever until about five years ago and it seems to get worse every year now. Before the Allevia I used to get terrible sinus pain but that seems to have stopped.

CocoPops and Casdon, thanks for confirming. I wasn’t quite sure. As I have to take it daily, even in winter (cats!), I get it on prescription

DollyD Yes, you can buy Fexofenadine OTC. My son buys it at Tesco

My GP prescribed Fexofenadine for my various allergies. I’ve been taking them daily for years and so far they are working quite well. I have hayfever and am also allergic to my four cats. Not sure if Fexofenadine can be bought over the counter, so possibly no good for you today, but maybe for future reference?

It’s really high today. I have bad hayfever, but not asthma or COPD luckily. As well as the tablets (Allevia work best for me), I use eye drops as my worst issue is itchy and streaming eyes when the pollen count is so high, they drive me crazy. The thing that helps me most though is regular showers and hair washes/rinses, I often shower and change all my clothes twice a day because otherwise I don’t get any relief indoors. I dry my washing indoors too when the count is really high, because the pollen gets on things on the clothesline.

...also, invest in an air filter for inside.

Maybe you can get a pack of decent one-use masks in screwfix or B&Q or a chemist.
Not sure what may be near you.

Can you wear a decent mask as today is very high grass pollen.
