Sons FIL seems to be getting worse very quickly. They have just managed to take the car away as he was driving all over the place for hours.
Yesterday they went to a day centre but he refused to do anything and said he wouldn't go back. His wife is in despair and she doesn't drive so some of us have taken him out for coffee or shopping but I don't know what more we can do.

My dad refused to go to a centre, but went willingly as a 'helper' he would shuffle round with a tin of biscuits to share at tea time and the nurses were dependent on his ability to give out the sugar and tea spoons! he looked at it as his job and told people he was a helper looking after the elderly! Eventually it was too much for him, but had made friends and wanted to go and visit them

When I see pictures of activities for old people I cringe, imagining being parked in a plastic-covered chair to hear war-time songs round a piano.
If someone has never been interested in board games or model railways or yoga they are not likely to enjoy them later
when confused and tired.
I hope to spend my dotage in bed with a cat asleep on me and Radio 3 on.

I think you have a very old fashioned view of what happens nowadays watermeadow.
