Hugely embarrassing problem

I can hardly bear to write this and sorry if it TMI but sometimes I get involuntary small nuggets of poo emerging, quite beyond my control. GP has referred to a specialist, but any ideas what could be causing it. Weak pelvic floor? I also have a cystocele.

BlueBelle

Wasn’t she wearing any knickers missA ?

No, she was wearing one of his shirts, like they do in romantic films.
I expect that chickpea scuppered that notion.

I have absolutely no medical knowledge but have heard about pelvic floor exercises. Would these be of any use with your condition? Have you tried contacting a physio privately? Just suggestions but of course the consultant is your priority. Good luck.

I downloaded the App called Squeezy and put it on my iPhone (or IPad) it is recommended by the NHS. I think it cost about £2.50.

I do the exercises 3 times a day (these are all explained on the app) and it is a good way to get into the routine of doing exercises for both weeing and pooing.

Well done for being brave enough to ask for advice.

This nhs link might help a bit. 💐

Search 'pelvic floor exercises' on Youtube. There's a bewildering selection, but worth trying. I find that what goes in at one end influences what comes out at the other end. Perhaps you could think about what you've been eating when something embarrassing happens. I've almost had to stop eating dark green vegetables - regrettably, because I do like broccoli.

I second NanKate. I use Squeezy, it definitely keeps you doing the exercises. I’ve found them very effective and I hope the OP would. It’s the one part of my body I neglected till too late! Every older woman should keep her pelvic floor toned, my downfall was hauling heavy sacks around the garden. I’m a pelvic floor exercise evangelist now!

I have this from time to time. When I had a colonoscopy last year (for an unrelated issue) I was told I was showing signs of diverticular disease, so I just put it down to that.I have not pursued any treatment for this yet as I have no other symptoms and I have enough going on at the moment. I'm sure there is nothing to worry about.

When I have a long stressful day ahead, I take an Imodium. That keeps things at bay 😂

This is a useful website, if you haven’t already seen it

Do you buy loperamide which is much cheaper?

sharon103 Sun 28-Jul-24 18:24:22

It seems you need to drink more fluid and something to do with digestion.
I've added a link and hope it helps.

Regarding Immodium, my husband has loperamide on repeat from his g.p. He is on many different medications, which have an affect on his bowels, so we feel he is justified in having loperamide on repeat. I do know it is fairly cheap to buy, compared to Immodium.

When my daughter was about 7 another little girl used to come and play. My son said one day there were always “rabbit droppings”on the bathroom floor when she had visited.

I mentioned it to her Mum and she took her to the GP and it was down to a poor diet (lacking in fruit and veg) and told her to drink more.

A prolapsed bowel will produce the same kind of symptoms.

Anyway, dare I say I hope that someone has got to the bottom of it, and the op is on the mend.

Sallywally1 Well done for posting about your bowel problem as I think bowel problems are quite common in older adults but little talked about. There can be many reasons for involuntary expulsion of pieces of poo, and good that your GP has referred you. Presumably he examined you to exclude obvious causes?

In the meantime there are excellent ideas on here to explore. I hope you soon get the problem diagnosed and sorted soon.

Allsorts Mon 19-Aug-24 17:04:26

Sallywally, please don’t apologise for posting. Bluebell i do think your comments bit harsh. Of course we cannot diagnose but someone might have had a similar problem and sometimes its good to just chat but it is not a subject you can just drop into everyday conversation. This should be very much a safe space to voice her concerns, so don't be embarrassed, you are not alone as people have said. I hope you get help soon to get ut sorted.

Well said Allsorts, these forums are to help and commiserate, advise and listen. I would never critizise anyone for finding a solution to a problem, it may well help someone out there, who is quite desperate. I know it is an embarrassing problem, but it is really common, so well done to everyone who offers any solutions or suggestions, I for one, am truly grateful to you all.

I have been referred but the waiting lis is horrendous. Sorry if not the right place, I’m just a bit worried and also mortified.

Please don't be mortified , Sallywally1.
As a result of my bowel/rectum operation 12 years ago some of my "U" bend had to be removed but my brilliant NHS surgeon have me a "T" junction instead(slows things down). Notwithstanding , my bowel is a great deal more active/ unpredictable than previously. Sometimes it's the Wild West in the old undercarriage.🤣🤣🤣.
There's a lot of it about!!!
All the advice to get medical advice here is exactly right.*
PS I have a lot of pants.
I have a husband with a good sense of humour.

Sallywally1 - thank you so much for starting this thread. I feel so much less alone and wish you the very best. Many areas have a Continence or ‘Bowel and Bladder’ clinic where specialist nurses are reassuring and supportive.

You do seem to be very interested in old threads relating to bottom cleaning and I think you have mentioned the PBidet in every one of them. Are you employed by them or are you truly trying to be helpful?
