Dry eyes….best eye drops?

The eye drops which have been prescribed for me are : Ca0rbomer'980' 0.2%. They are in the form of a gel and I use them at night time. If I forget to do this, I wake up with horribly dry, gritty eyes. I am not sure if they are available over the counter. They have different names from various manufacturers.

Can’t see greatly tonight after three hours in eye hospital with eye drops. Was discharged from left eye with 20/20 vision but complicated eye surgery on right eye is expected to require slight laser treatment.
I was asked any questions and asked if when time to stop prescribed eye drops. Soon and okay to use chemist eyedrops of any make.

I use Hycosan Extra (in the red box), contains 0.2% Sodium Hyaluronate & preservative free. It was recommended by the optician. I generally buy three at a time from wherever I can find it cheapest: one upstairs one downstairs and one in the car

I saw my eye specialist last week who recommended heat. I have bought a heated eye pad- 25 seconds in microwave, hold on eyes, then massage lids. It's been remarkable, no streaming eyes.

I get dry and sore eyes from the air con vents in the car, tricky to turn off when it's hot weather and they don't seem to point anywhere that helps. I do find that using optrex drops helps to keep it at bay. I take them everywhere with me just in case.

I have a couple of tablespoons of ground Linseeds a day on my porridge ,and it seems to help my dry eyes stay moist, it's supposed to help joints stay lubricated too

I find that Hycosan Extra are great and were recommended by optician. I usually get them in a pack of two or three from Ebay or Amazon. Much cheaper than Boots. I also have a heated eye mask which is good. I've recently found BlinkBetter BlephaScrub eyelid wipes which are also great for removing eye make up and are so refreshing and gentle.

My husband gets dry eyed and the optometrist recommended drops called Evolve. She said her Mum used them and highly recommends , I have ordered a bottle from Amazon. Under £10.
They are supposed to be better than other drops but can’t comment et as we haven’t had them yet

I use Systane drops, recommended by my optician. There are a few different formulations depending on how severe your condition is. I use the green one.

I have regular check ups at the eye hospital for an eye condition that I have as well as dry eyes. The hospital consultant prescribes me Hylo-Forte but I think you can buy it without prescription too. I know two other people who have this prescribed for dry eyes. It’s easy to use and you can use it when you feel you need to.

My optician prescribed, via my GP, AacuLose Hypromellose 0.3% eye drops. Two drops twice daily. They work well for me.

It is available over the counter where I am (Scotland). I was prescribed it and have just bought a replacement. Cost less than £3.

I also use Evolve as they were recommended to me as preservative free. No problems with them.

I was prescribed Hycosan. A couple of months ago I was away from home and couldn’t get any. I could get Optrex at a fraction of the price and I have to say they seem to work very well for me.

Ive been using Evolve HA for a while now then my ophthalmologist asked me to test and report back on Viscotears . I find the benefit lasts longer with the latter as the liquid is more viscous, hence the name I suppose.

Just a side note - if you are running a dehumidifier in your home, this seems to suck all the moisture from your body!

I use Hycosan extra (red and white bottle), recommended by my optician - currently £11.99 in Tesco, and I also use Hycosan night (blue & white bottle) a couple of times a week.

I suffer from occasional blepharitis and the heated pad gives me a lot of relief from it when I have a flare up.

I would be inclined to speak to your doctor’s surgery or the local pharmacy for guidance

I seem to be allergic to Hycosan drops. Viscotears helps a bit, but recently I was asked why my eyes are so red ......

I started to take Starflower oil capsules and they helped until recently but seem to have stopped working.

My daughter has to use eye drops to stop her eye lids sticking to her eyes overnight. Her eye sight was damaged through this. She had a terrible time trying to find the correct eye drop; in the end it turned out that eye drops with preservative in them did her no favours at all. If you do have trouble with any eye drops, it might be worth checking whether they have artificial preservatives in them.
