Facial hair remover when over 70.

Hi all

Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of facial hair in the 70’s. I am 72 and my face would be covered with a beard and moustache if I didn’t go and get it waxed off once per month. In between I usually have to tweezer some of the hairs off. I am fed up with it and just want to get rid of them permanently but with something that isn’t too expensive. Any ideas would be helpful. Also the waxing is £20 per time and I need to save some money. Thank you for reading.

Hammacher Schlemmer sells an at home electrolysis set. I've had one for a few years and it helps. It's not permanent but a lot less plucking / "Flawless-ing" needed. I check every few weeks and do a little here and there. No needles!

Weirdly it doesn’t grow back stubbly - mine hasn’t done anyway. In fact, just the opposite; it seems to grow less. It seems much more gentle than shaving.

Its because the hairs grow back all at once, and the ends are blunt, where they've been chopped, rather than tapered, from what I have read online.
So, no more hairs than there was, but all coming through at once.

I suppose the idea is to whisk them off very regularly?

I've just asked the same thing? Any answers out there?

This shaving the whole face seems to be a thing but does the hairs not grow back stubbly?

Flawless finish for me! I used to spend ages plucking all the hairs from my chin. Now it’s such a quick job with this little device. I have to do it every day and have told my husband if ever I was in hospital, it is the first thing I’d be wanting!

How does that work? Is it a type of razor?

I tried my epilator on my chin & above my lip, not as bad as I thought pain wise, they haven’t come back any thicker 🙏
Did buy a waxing pot machine during covid but it made such a mess 😩

I've got a Braun Face razor, is it the same as the Flawless, I've always been careful using in as I'm afraid of getting a stubble. Do you get a stubble with the Flawless?

I had threading at out local Super Drug. I normally tweezer my own hairs as they are not too abundant but to make sure for a particular family event, I paid for the service and it was quick and pleasant.

My Flawless is battery operated - just one small battery. I’ve had mine for some time so I don’t know if the later versions are USB.

I know it’s rather expensive but I use a Philips hand-held IPL machine. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re much good on fair skin and blond, white or grey hair. So the darker you are the better as I think they target the melanin in the hair. I’m quite dark and was also quite hairy. They have a smaller attachment for the face and I use mine as and when I need to and it’s been great - no regrowth so far but I always keep an eye on it as nothing is forever. As a point of interest, my legs are now completely hair-free. I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago!

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 19:04:18

Its usb. smile

I'll go and look.
I'm pretty sure its rechargeable.

Milliedog Tue 03-Sept-24 18:46:25

Is the Flawless hair remover rechargeable or does it have removable batteries?

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:34:36

Oh bot, not... confused

MissAdventure Tue 03-Sept-24 18:33:51

My facial fuzz us bot so much peach-like.
A coconut is nearer the mark.

I'm an epilator fan! I've used one on my legs for years, and a couple of years ago plucked (excuse the pun!) up the courage to use it on underarms and the stronger hairs on my upper lip and chin. Honestly, after the first few times of coping with watering eyes and pain it really does get better smile When I use it on my legs it's more like a tickle, and underarms are much more bearable now.

For my face, I use facial wax strips from Saisburys about every four weeks or so and then either epilate or pluck any stronger hairs that the wax doesn't remove.

I'm not very dark-haired, though, so maybe this wouldn't work for those with more of a problem...I feel your pain!

Lahlah and Candelle Flawless is perfect for the ‘peach fuzz’👍 I’m not sponsored by Flawless - promise! It’s just made such a difference to my facial hair routine, which has plagued me all my adult life🙈
