Plantar Fasciitis help and advice please

Been diagnosed with this condition by GP five weeks ago, given Naproxen tablets and some foot exercises to do but they haven’t done anything at all to help with the horrendous pain I’m experiencing literally all the time. Walking is extremely painful, at night in bed I’m either kept awake with the pain or am woken up by it. GP did say they may give a steroid injection if there’s no improvement after six months or more. Was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas to help with this condition please. Also have tried various insoles for this condition but again not helping.

A few years ago, I started getting pain in my back and joints that just wouldn’t let up. At first, I thought it was just part of getting older, but the pain kept getting worse. You know that feeling when it’s just constant, and then at night, it gets even worse? I could never sleep properly because of it.

So I went to the doctor, got some tests, and found out I had ankylosing spondylitis. They gave me anti-inflammatory meds, which helped a little, but the pain was still there. Tried insoles, exercises, heat pads—nothing worked. I just kept wondering, “Why is this not getting better?”

Eventually, I decided to try cannabis-based treatments. It didn’t make the pain go away completely, but it helped a lot. The inflammation went down, and I was able to sleep through the night without waking up. The stiffness eased up too, and I started feeling more like myself.

It’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for something to manage the pain, I’d say give it a try. Here’s their page on ankylosing spondylitis treatment

Either Asics or sketchers with the extra instep support. This is what you need! Ask in the shop for the ones that have this extra support.

The “stand on the edge of the stairs” exercise was very helpful, as was a “boot” at night. It helped to keep my foot flexed.
My doctor warned me that steroid injections would be hideously painful but rarely helped, just to bear with it and it would go away by itself. It did, but took about 5 months of pain.
Since then, I’ve had orthotics, which help too.

I was told that thyroid trouble can be connected to this condition ( I have Hashimoto's Disease) and have suffered with Plantar Fasciitis on and off for years. I also have flat feet which really doesn't help. One piece of advice I got was Nora's stair exercise and the other calf stretch one, both helped. I bought a pair of Crocs they really helped, I wear them as slippers. Vary the heel size in your footwear from time to time. I don't mean to be offensive but losing a few pounds in weight, also helped me. Orthotic insoles in every outdoor boot or shoe. I have heard you can buy orthotic slippers, but would not know where to look for those, maybe Google?I don't buy cheap shoes or boots, I get the best I can afford.The advice here has all been personal to me, but hopefully, may help someone else. It is a very painful condition.

I've had it, so painful esp in the morning. I think it's footwear related. Lots of tips in this thread. It gets better but takes time. Prickle balls helped but you must rest it too.

I’ve learned to always wear shoes and slippers with good arch support. I can no longer go barefoot at home and need orthotics in any completely flat footwear.

Yes, NO totally flat-soled shoes or sandals - ever!
No barefoot walking.
Proper (bespoke if possible) orthotics in your shoes.
Acupuncture treatment - wonderful.
Roll foot whenever possible over icy water bottle
Edge of stairs stretching exercise..
Moderate exercise only - no pavement pounding.

Good luck, stay cheerful - it will go.

Trainers and insoles in all footwear, exercises as described above and a good deal of patience. It does go but can take many months.
Ps my podiatrist woukd not recommend sketchers, insufficient support.
