Covid booster

I had my covid booster this time and had a really bad reaction to it. Aching all over, shivering, headache. Very unusual for me.
Has anyone else had this and how long did it last?

Last year I had a bad reaction to the Spikevax vaccine. While relaxing on the sofa, my heart rate went ballistic - zooming up from 60 to 98 and back down again for some time. I rang the doctor who said it wasn't a normal reaction and if it didn't settle soon, to call back. Thankfully it did settle, but for the 1st time ever, I notified the yellow card system. Later, the doctor reminded me that I'd had a similar reaction to the vaccination in 2022. I'm not going to take the vaccine this year....will just have the flu vaccine. I've had Covid twice, but very mildly, and am hopefully recovering from Long Covid but the vaccine scared me rigid!

We had our jabs last Thursday . Husband had both , in separate arms . I chose to have just ‘flu and covid at a later date .

Husband has been fine - a little more tired than usual . I felt fine until Tuesday , then my nose started running with clear fluid , headache and generally “meh” . I’m still feeling rough and we’re running out of toilet rolls .

We’ve both had covid . Last year had to go to A&E on Christmas Day evening as husband felt very unwell . They gave him an antibiotic infusion then we went home . Next day we both developed covid . First for both !

Husband wasn’t too bad but he took me back to A&E on New Years Eve and I stayed overnight as my breathing was laboured .

Hoping for better luck this year !

I've never had covid, and I'm blood type O, if anyone's interested.
I too, was working all through lockdown.

I had Covid in August and didn't feel that ill and I have a compromised immune system.
Haven't had the booster yet as it's only a few weeks on from having Covid. I refuse to have flu and Covid vaccines at the same time but the receptionist at the surgery says it's not possible to have them separately - both together or nothing.

What happened to patient choice?

Get one at the pharmacy and the other at the surgery.
That’s what I did when faced with the same choice.
However by the time I had my flu vaccine at the surgery, they were allowing both at the same time, or just one if wanted.

I felt fine after the double jab.

I had the Covid booster at lunchtime on Friday, began to feel ropey about 5ish.
Spent all day yesterday on the sofa totally wiped out, headache, aches and pains along with hot and shivery.
Have woken this morning feeling better but just so very tired.

In the event, had to cancel as I have a rotten cold (not Covid).

MrJ had both in the same arm on Friday morning, not even a twinge.

Anyone had the RSV vaccine? Several friends are saying they won't have it, too many vaccines in a short time. Can't decide.

Shelflife Sun 20-Oct-24 11:01:40

We had our Covid and flu vaccinations yesterday - so far so good 🤞

Shelflife Sun 20-Oct-24 11:02:55

Not bad the RSV vaccine yet , but will take advantage of it when invited.

Kate1949 Sun 20-Oct-24 11:05:42

We've both had the RSV vaccine and were fine.

We prefer separate vaccinations so we book our flu jab at Boots every October and we go to a walk in session at a local pharmacy for our COVID jab which we will do after our short visit to London next week. Both venues are less than a mile from our house.

JaneJudge Sun 20-Oct-24 11:28:40

I always reacted like this

Jane43 Sun 20-Oct-24 11:30:34

We haven’t had an invitation for the RSV vaccine. I have read about it and it says a few people in the trials developed Guillain Barre Syndrome after the vaccination so I will be declining this one as I have had GBS twice and it’s not an experience I want to repeat.

Had Covid and flu vaccine together and one week later caught covid for the first time and have felt ill now for 2wks. OH has it and has had such bad night sweats that we have had to change the bed several times in the middle of the night. We both feel weak and exhausted and have last half a stone each. I can say for us it is worse than flu.

I have since read that the vaccine for this Autumn is last years stock and only a third protective against current circulating covid. My neighbour has symptoms, isn’t bothering to test, shopping etc as normal. No wonder many people round here have caught it!

Jaxjacky Sun 20-Oct-24 11:38:12

Where did you read that Farzanah as our surgery has said both Moderna and Pfizer are updated versions to tackle the known mutations?
I know of two people who’ve recently had Covid, one was rough for two weeks, one barely a sniffle.

Farzanah Sun 20-Oct-24 11:49:00

I’m not good at posting links on iPad but check out THE CONVERSATION “why the UKs autumn vaccine strategy could fail patients”.
I believe it’s from Manchester University.

Whiff Sun 20-Oct-24 14:34:34

I had the Moderna spike jab which is this years version on Tuesday . I live in the north west.

Farzanah Sun 20-Oct-24 16:44:37

I had Moderna but was at a pharmacy and the person who gave it didn’t know which version when I asked.

I agree I’d never have any of these jabs Far too dangerous They have now been banned in several countries

Let’s have the whole truth. It was the AstraZeneca vaccine that was banned. This one is not AstraZeneca.

Angelnan Sun 20-Oct-24 17:08:40

Its a bit of a lottery i think. I booked both together at a local pharmacy. Sore arm from the newer COVID but nothing else. I worked at the beginning of the vaccination program as a nurse and can only say everyone is different. Dont go to receive it dehydrated, expect some mild flu like symptoms and plan accordingly. Of course if you have additional health conditions that will change things. But i am shocked at how little history/ advice/etc is asked now compared to when it all began.
You are perfectly able to book separately if that is your preference. Just go on NHS website and make your own decision . But flu season is upon us already and COVID is going nowhere. People have their own opinions, choices and outcomes to cope with . Indoctrination on either side is not ideal and certainly not helpful. I’ve witnessed much unpleasant protesting and the need for security to protect staff. As if the NHS is not stretched enough.

Whiff Sun 20-Oct-24 17:19:02

Mine was done at my pharmacy and the pharmacist told me before giving it to me what it was .

If you have NHS app on your phone you can access your health record which has what jabs you have had and when .

Had up dated Moderna Spikevax covid jab yesterday. Yesterday evening I felt sick and cold. Today I woke with a temperature , headache and nauseous. Hoping these side effects are on their way out.Taking paracetamol and drinking lots of water.I have had reactions before, usually shivers and temperature.
