I think I shall be hanging on to my stick for a bit longer, Redcar. My physio today was a bit iffy when I told her what the consultant had said about ditching it “six weeks is still early days”. Perhaps a bit of practice around the house but certainly not outside.

When you are out, you can take your stick but do not put any weight on it for a few steps. If you feel wobbly or in pain, you have your trusty stick. Perhaps try that method in the house first.

Six weeks is too soon to ditch the stick.

I could have done with a stick this weekend. I tripped over a step going into a shop and landed smack on my face. I heard my nose crack. Hurt my poorly knee too…. So beware hipsters.
Luckily I seem to be ok but created quite a stir at the time, laying across the shop doorway. 😳 the staff were very kind. Apparently I was the fourth person in the last 10 days to fall into the shop, so there is clearly a safety issue.

Oh no! What rotten luck. Take your stick when out in crowded shops btw - it helps keep people out of your way if they see you with a stick.

It shook me up, but was lucky. It was a heavy fall and could easily have taken my front teeth out as well. So was lucky. 🍀

Ouch silverlining tha sounds really painful. That shop obviously has an issue with their doorway and step. I haven’t been out walking for a few days, it’s too cold. But I’ll have to get used to it when I’m at home next week.

Thanks Redcar It was painful, we were away with friends for a weekend break and it dud rather spoil things as it happened on the first morning we were there.

That is horrendous. Did you break your nose? It is such a shock to the entire system. I hope you were able to rest afterwards.

I thought I had broken it as it went down hard with a crack but though it’s sore I think it’s ok, at least I don’t have two lovely black eyes which I really expected.

I hope you have not loosened any cement around your joint after that nasty fall.

Silverlining - so sorry to hear about your fall - I hope you do not have any lasting bruises - take care as I twisted my ankle in that fall of mine and it’s a bit weak so almost fell again! That shop needs to do something with its step. At least your bones must be in good shape as nothing broken. A 55 year old friend just slightly twisted his ankle and it snapped - diagnosed with osteoporosis which is unusual for a 55 year old male I think. Try and get checked out if you have any aches and pains - though I’m sure that you would know by now if anything was really amiss.
Hope everyone has a lovely Xmas - eldest daughter and her 6 year old son coming today and we’re going out for Xmas lunch which I’ve never done before and slightly apprehensive has he’s a bit of a live wire - I’ve asked them to seat us in the furthest corner possible 😂😂. He goes to his dads tomorrow (co-parenting following divorce) then my other daughter and partner and 4 year old granddaughter here tomorrow - she’s a calm little thing so it should be easy ! We have badly timed it as we are all renovating our kitchens at the same time so no one has an oven ! Takes the pressure off though as we can only do simple things - they’re all vegan anyway. Ninja and induction hob will see us through !

So sorry to hear of your accident silverlining48. That must have thoroughly unnerved you apart from your physical injuries. Surely the shop must have health and safety issues to have had four customers in 10 days fall over the step. Is no-one claiming against them? Hope you get better soon with no lasting repercussions. Wishing all my fellow “hipsters” the happiest of Christmas greetings. You’ve all helped me along my path to recovery more than you’ll ever know. Best night’s sleep last night, turning over freely. But …….. my trusty stick’s staying by my side for some time yet, I’m thinking. Love to you all xx

Hello! Knee was replaced this morning, with a spinal block and a very light level of sedation, so I knew what was going on
Physios got me out of bed briefly and I am doing what movements I can - can’t really call them exercises!
It’s a bit sore!

For goodness sake Nannytopsy don't let them bully you into too much exercise. You've had a major operation and your whole body needs to recover.
A great start to 2025 though!

nannytopsy, that’s brilliant, but please take it easy. As aveline says, you have had major surgery and you need time to get over it, the sedation and whatever painkillers they have given you. Just do what you can and if it hurts too much, just stop!
I hope you’re home soon and can enjoy a belated Christmas!

That is a really good Christmas present to yourself, nannytopsy. As others have said, rest. It can be very painful post-op.

You will not be cooking or washing dishes tomorrow!

Yes. This surgery has transformed my life. I'm very grateful. I feel such a devil this morning - I put a little Bailey's in my coffee! Will walk with care though.

I’m enjoying a glass of fizz, but will be careful walking around! Have a lovely Christmas everyone.

I have just surfaced. For many years, I have never slept until almost 11 a.m. I am not complaining. I hope I sleep tonight because tomorrow I have an appointment to have my leg dressings changed.

Another dull day but no snow or frost.

nannytopsy I would not be surprised if you were sleeping in your own bed tonight. Keep taking the tablets, and look after yourself.
