Did the hospital do anything special for Christmas, *nannytopsy? I hope they did.

And I hope you’re being well spoilt now you’re home😆

grammargran Fri 27-Dec-24 09:44:20

Nannytopsy so glad you’re through and out the other side. I have been thinking of you over the past couple of days and wondering how you were getting on. Obviously, I can’t speak for knees, but couldn’t believe how things do improve, as they surely did for my hip. The first few weeks are challenging but every day makes you stronger - and take/listen to all the advice this brilliant forum offers. Silverlining48 hope you’re feeling better. Redcar not too long now till you can turn over (although, what’s stopping you now, is it you yourself as you’re past your six week mark). Charleygirl5, Aveline, and indeed everyone, hope the festive season’s going well for you all.

Wishing us all, past and present, a healthy knee and hippy hoppy happy new year 2025. For we are jolly good fellows …and so says me.
Love, peace and joy to us all. flowers sunshine winecupcake

Thanks! Same to everyone on this thread and here's to the new ones nervously venturing into the world of new knees and hips.

Charleygirl5 Fri 27-Dec-24 14:42:59

I was expecting to have both dressings on my lower limbs changed and to be told there was no more discharge. I can have my first shower in over a month. You may open your windows tomorrow.

grammargran I know in theory I can sleep on my side, but it actually hurts to lie on the new hip at the moment. And I’m not comfortable on the other side either unfortunately. I know it will be fine in a few weeks (or months), I just have to be patient and try it every week or so.
I’m home now trying to sort out all my stuff, presents etc. someone on another thread mentioned mince pies - and I realised I haven’t got any here! I’ll try to edit my food order!
nannytopsy I hope you’re enjoying the comforts of home.
Wishing everyone a very Happy and healthy New Year and thank you to everyone for your help and encouragement!

Wa hey Charleygirl, enjoy your shower. What a treat.

Redcar Fri 27-Dec-24 16:33:09

The first shower and hair wash are wonderful aren’t they!

Aveline Fri 27-Dec-24 20:34:04

After my first knee replacement I've never taken the sheer enjoyment of a shower or a good nights sleep for granted. Just great feelings.

DH washed my hair yesterday - I was only wearing undies but I still had to change completely! It’s lovely to have clean hair again.
There was a visit from Santa to the ward with two tablets of lovely soap and a sudoku/crossword/colouring book. It was very thoughtful. Last night IDH filled a hot water bottle with iced water and wrapped it in a towel. I put it under my knee and it gave gentle cooling all night. Very successful!

Nannytopsy Sat 28-Dec-24 08:29:46

Not IDH! DH!

I remember an earlier thread on hips and knees someone talking about something which was a shampoo in a sort of hat which they used before they could get themselves into the shower…..not describing it well but if anyone else knows maybe they can describe this better. At the time I thought it was an excellent idea and was useful for anyone bed bound too. I am sorry I just can’t remember the name.

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 12:00:05

Nannytopsy glad to hear you got a hair wash even if you were soaked in the process.

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 12:01:43

Am giving this a bump in case we get lucky and appear on the active list

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 12:02:35

DD1 has a robust clear plastic chair which fits in her walk in shower. I used it to shower to begin with. She also bought a plastic poncho for about £1, I sat in the chair, covered in the poncho. I leant back and she washed my hair. It worked well, but of course she got soaked too!

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 12:50:22

Wish I could remember more about the hair washing hat…..🎩

Aveline Sat 28-Dec-24 13:31:22

I remember seeing those waterless hair wash hats on Amazon. Will check.

Aveline Sat 28-Dec-24 13:34:36

Here's a screenshot of one. There seems to be lots available.

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 13:59:46

Oh thanks Aveline, I was starting to think I was imagining things.

Charleygirl5 Sat 28-Dec-24 14:20:11

I have never heard of them so I must investigate.

Silverlining this is not the first time I have told you where your place in life is!!! Along with the rest of us! I do not understand why it always happens.

silverlining48 Sat 28-Dec-24 15:42:16

I know Charleygirl, we are on our 5 th iteration and should be used to being ignored by theActive ‘system’ but I still don’t understand why.
Hey ho, we know where we are - most if the time.

Charleygirl5 Sun 29-Dec-24 14:11:59

We are on the way out, so I will restore us to our rightful place for 10 seconds.

grammargran Sun 29-Dec-24 14:36:40

Please don’t let us vanish, Charleygirl5, I love this thread & feel I’ve made new friends in the last few weeks.

Hello grammargran, it’s nice that you feel comfy with us lot, but as for not appearing on Active and if we do it’s not fur long, there must be many who don’t know iwe exist.
I began this in feb 2022, so nearly 3 years now but to get even to the top half of Active we often need to post at least 3 times in succession, so we get a shirt moment of glory
