Sealover be careful with the Sketchers. I ordered some really nice ones and was so disappointed when they came to find out that my foot on my operated leg was swollen and remained so for the best part of five weeks so I couldn’t wear them. Even after my foot had more or less returned to normal, they weren’t comfortable. Probably my own fault for not noticing that the sides weren’t elasticised & you’ve probably been far more sensible, but thought I’d mention it!

teabagwoman sorry to hear about your spinal stenosis as well as your hip. Yes best to run it past your physio. In my case my back was aching so much from being huddled over I thought I need to stand upright and my walking poles came to mind. I was 68 when I had my op. My friend who was 88 then could walk faster than me pre-op. She fell and broke her hip last May but made a good recovery! Another friend is 3 weeks post-op and doing very well.

grammergran…. Oh the sleeping position on your back…..awful. After a couple of weeks I found that listening to a Christmas Carol on sounds, read by someone whose voice sent me to sleep, was much better than reading, which I did a lot of on and off through the night. Every time I listened I had to try and remember where to start from ! 😂 quite pleased with how it helped though.

grammargran I also ordered new shoes before my first hip replacement and couldn’t get them on either foot. I think I went home in my slippers!I had a very old scruffy pair of Skechers that I’d put elastic laces in and I wore them home this time. (& for the next seven weeks!) they’re just about worn out now so I’m throwing them out. I’d had them 5 years!
I’ll always need some sort of walking aid because of my back problems, but can live with that! I find walking up hills rather tiring but hope that will improve.Stairs are fine, but when I’m tired I need to hold on to the bannister rail for dear life! I don’t need the gadget to put my socks on now and actually tied the laces on my trainers today! All good progress.

I listened to The Sleeping Forecast on BBC sounds. Gentle music, sea sounds and snippets of the Shipping Forecast sent me off to sleep

Oh Redcar you’re streets ahead of me with your shoes and socks, I’m nearly there but my waistline doesn’t help!

grammargran it’s only this week that I’ve been able to put my socks on and I still struggle to reach my toenails to cut them! I now visit the podiatrist every six weeks, but they don’t put nail varnish on for me! You’ll get there, don’t worry!

Redcar A pedicure would do everything, and you would have nail polish applied afterwards. Looking at local prices, it would also be cheaper.

You can get a pedicure which includes cutting and shaping the nails massage, paint, etc etc for less than a podiatrist charges just for cutting the nails.
Unfortunately I have awkward nails so have to go to both which is very costly.

As to Skechers my podiatrist does not recommend using them. He says they do not give enough support.

silverlining the last pedicure I had (several years ago) cost approximately twice the amount I pay to have my toenails cut! At the moment my toenails are still suffering from the effects of being constrained by the anti-coagulant stockings I had to wear post surgery.

I have parted company with my chiropodist because they wanted £50 for 10 minutes work, I think not. I want both nails on my big toes removed because of painful ingrowing toenails.

I have been paying £54 e very time I get my toe nails cut. An hours round trip, petrol, pay for parking added to over 60£.

Have changed to a more local area, £38, but for that I could get a very nice pedicure taking an hour instead of 20 minutes. Very happy as new pls e us a walk away or 5 minutes drive with free parking.

Coming on here for two reasons before I head out for a quick walk, firstly to give us a bump up, we’re slipping down again and, secondly, to give myself a bit of a laugh. Have any of you hipsters seen the thread “This isn’t the world I want to live in.” ?Don’t worry, it isn’t suicidal, just a comment on the state of the world and how awful it is for our grandchildren and great grandchildren. It’s now nine pages long so full of gloom and doom it’s almost (but not quite) sucked all the joy out of my recovery and the burgeoning Spring. Someone say something fun, please!

I used to do the twist and shout
But then I got a hip replacement and was fine ….

Two patients limp into two different clinics both appear to need a hip replacement

The first patient is examined and within a day or so is x rayed and booked fir surgery.
The second patient sees his family doctor after waiting weeks for an appointment. Then waits a few months before seeing a specialist . Gets an XRay which takes a month to review and finally after a wait on a very long list gets a surgery date.
Hoping it doesn’t get cancelled. 😞

Why the difference for the two patients?
The first is a golden retriever. The second is an OAP.

Not so funny but made me smile, just a bit.

I had right TKR in Feb 23, then right ThR in August 23.
Will be having left THR soonish
Was put on steroids last year after chest infection and breathing issues.
Surgeon won't do surgery until I have finished steroids and have been off them for 4 weeks!
Has anyone else been in this situation?

Hi Susytish I remember you from last time though didn’t think it was 2023… time dues fly.
I can’t help with your question though as I havnt been in your situation. Presumably the doctor knows best and I hope it’s not too long before you get the surgery you need.
Hope someone will come along with something else to add.

Obviously breathing issues are v important so need to be resolved prior to surgery.
