Kaolin and morph

If you are going to France, visit a pharmacy and stock up on SMECTA. It comes in a box of little sachets which you mix with water - from the taste of it, I’d say it def contains kaolin (or Fullers Earth). It’s really good. As others have already mentioned, the combination of paracetamol & codeine which you can buy OTC here is also a good one - codeine can control diarrhoea. Interestingly, you can rarely, if ever, get this combination without a prescription in other countries.

I loved the taste of pholcodeine if I had a cough not sure if still available and my dad swore by robbitusin might be spelt incorrectly, used to sell both when I worked in chemists, also there was a brilliant cola tonic far better than sanatogen we used to sell called labiton .and if anyone had cystitis our pharmacist mixed up miss pot cits

It seems its the 'morph' that gives that almost instant pain relief followed by the kaolin that binds up with the food you've just eaten and expels it harmlessly that made it my family's go-to for any gastric problem.
I don't suppose the occasional intake of opiates harmed us.

Port & brandy together, full measure of brandy 1/2 measure of port so i.e. equal measures = 1/6gill. Works every time for me. I used that when I had my awful period cramps too. Enjoy

Imodium is used to stop diaorrhea or you can buy other brands. Buscopan acts on the bowel muscle by relaxing it thus helping with cramping pains. Useful for IBS!

Indian Brandee for period pains. It was warm and soothing even if it had no other properties! My dad swigged Andrews Liver Salts (you can still buy it) for indigestion (from which he suffered a lot). He died of stomach cancer so maybe it wasn't a good idea. The mum of a friend swore by Dog Oil for joint and muscle pains - she was still doing Yoga at 99! And my dear granny used Dr White's Compo for everything , as did her 8 siblings, and all lived into their 90s, with one dying a week before her 105th birthday and made the local newspaper as the oldest resident ever known in Derbyshire. Oh, and I've just remembered Zambuk for skin infections, sores and bruises. Greasy dark green stuff. You can still buy that as well.

Buscopan is much cheaper on Amazon, if buying them.

Codeine or co-codamol would do it. It's the opiate that is known for causing constipation and therefore works for diarrhoea symtoms.

My late mum always had some in the cupboard.

I was also a dispenser in the 60s and used to make up 20 fluid oz bottles of Kaolin and Morphine!

Oh yes Indian Brandee I remember it well. When I was a girl I suffered badly with period pains my dad never said anything apart from …..a bit off are you today, I’ll fetch you some Indian Brandee…..and off he would go to the corner shop carrying a cup and return with 4 penny worth which he warmed and watched as I drank it, then that was it the wonder cure. With a wife and 4 daughters Dad must have fetched gallons of the stuff over the years bless him x

We were always given Indian Brandee for wind or cramps. Don’t think they sell it now. Milk of magnesia for upset tummy.

As the principal ingredients of chlorydne were a mixture of laudanum (an alcoholic solution of opium), tincture of cannabis and chloroform, it readily lived up to its claims of relieving pain, as a sedative, and for the treatment of diarrhea. It really worked, and was so, so comforting - looking back, giving it to young children was...!! 😱

K&M was and is excellent for gut ache. I was prescribed it for bad gut pain. It's no longer on the High Street because of the druggies.

As to K&M the kaolin used to sink to the bottom so I suppose you could suck off the morph with a straw if you were so minded 😵

Gee’s Linctus was my go to for persistent coughs. Really worked, but opiates again!

K&M was taken off the market years ago, I'm assuming small dose of Morphine would be still be a class A drug? However you can still buy in some Pharmacy's abroad.
I was sold some in Mexico when I was ill and flying home that day, worked a treat, knocked me out so I managed to get home OK.

If nauseous I recommend some freshly made ginger tea .
I grate a peeled piece which is about the size of my thumb nail.
Measure a cupful of hot water , add and heat for one minute in the microwave.
Allow to infuse for a couple of minutes and strain .
Sip .
And you will burp !
And how !
I have never known it to fail .
Avoid meat pies when feeling queasy-they are far too rich .
I used to take Collis Brown for period pain .
I can't remember when it was withdrawn-a long time ago .
Kaolin and morphine was great ,but withdrawn years ago
Buscopan is OK, but doesn't stop severe cramps.
Paracetamol and codeine will stop diarrhoea .
