Norovirus

Noro only lasts a couple of days. May need to see a Dr if not clearing up, as probably something else. Noro is a bad bug. Sitting on the pot with stuff coming out both ends isn't any fun.

Good to know people are furthering medical science in these small ways.

I take part in medical trials, last year it was a double blind trial for a tweaked Covid vaccine and I’m about to start a trial for a norovirus vaccine. It’s a two year trial and is closely monitored for adverse effects on a very regular basis. Blood and poo samples are taken monthly. Having never had the virus myself I think it will be interesting. Though at the end of the trial I will never know whether I had the vaccine or a placebo. There is almost zero risk and the clinic pays well for participating. As a very healthy (almost) 70 year old the clinic regularly invites me to take part.

Thank you everyone, i have taken on everyone's advice and 5 days in I feel I may have turned a corner thankfully! Certainly not much fun but onwards and upwards 👍

You have my sympathy- norovirus is horrible and really knocks you for six. Some great advice here. In my experience you should flush your system with clear fluids and your body will tell you when its ready for food again.

Hope you recover soon but don't force it.

i have no idea either but when i was pregnant moons ago i had awful morning afternoon evening night sickness! the only thing i could eat was apples. dont like the thought of apple sauce but i suppose it goes down easy

I think it’s the pectin in apples that helps ‘set’ your tummy. Grated apple makes the pectin more accessible,

Thank you for your replies. I have been trying to rehydrate slowly and the suggestions of possible things to eat are a great help although I don't want anything I guess I should try .
It has really knocked the stuffing out of me .

I’m sorry you have that wretched virus. This is a recipe for making your own rehydrate solution with household ingredients.

Six teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt dissolved in one litre of fresh water. Store in fridge, sip slowly as required and make a fresh batch every 24 hrs. It can flavoured with juice if required. It perks you up faster than plain water.

You feel awful due to dehydration and salts lost. If you can manage food then NHS recommend the BRAT diet, banana, rice, apple sauce or toast. If you still can't eat get rehydration salts from the chemist but try to drink plenty. Hope you feel better soon.

Tends be just a case of waiting for it to pass. I have found Dioralyte very helpful in making me feel a little more human during a bad bout of food poisoning.
