I was admitted to hospital with breathlessness and SATs of 86 following a 111phonecall. I had to wait in the ambulance for over half an hour but that's another story. I was in hospital for five days. It wasn't until I'd had a chest Xray which was clear that the was any mention of pneumonia

pneumonia - feeling rough
(146 Posts)Feeling rather sorry for myself as been ill for nearly a week, a cold went to pneumonia. Got anti biotics then got a different anti biotic. On my own and got very little energy to even open a tin of soup. Did ask my separated husband if he could fetch me and he said he didnt want to catch it...... Silly to ask him really but I was desperate. Just hope that I am going to start to feel better soon.
I feel so sorry for you .
I would hope if you texted someone they would come and do your soup and put some in a flask for later . Also hot drinks.
Ref hospital, it’s a tricky one. my mum was admitted end of October in her four week stay it turned to sepsis she got c diff E. coli and flu.
She was so Ill she was completely confused . The nhs were so muddled.
We managed to get her into a nice nursing home where she will be for two months respite.
Could you boom into a nursing home for a week or two . It’s not cheap but if you do have the funds it’s definitely worth it. Just for the warmth, food and care.
Are there any GransNutters in Derbyshire who could help
Wintersday ?
By the way how are you today wintersdsy ?
Haven't noticed you checking in today.
And Happy New Year to you
and to all reading.
I hope the effects of the antibiotics are having some effect now OP? I almost died of pneumonia a few years ago, so it scares me rigid when someone gets it these days.
OldHag How is your post supposed to make her feel better?
Sorry to hear this 1 same here ...had to cancel New Year in Scotland as I caught flu and felt awful ! Insurance didn;t wouldn't cover my lost holiday as ;they need a Dr certificate'....like WHERE was I going to get a Dr certificate ....difficult enough ordinarily, let alone over the holiday ! I contacted the online Dr at LIVI who said do not leave the house for four days....rest and drink fluids .....and take Pracetamol (I had some left over antibiotics which I took as well)....BUT my friends did collect me for Christmas day (I said no, as I didn;t want anyone to catch it, and I felt rotten and would have stayed in bed !) but it was kind of them ...and no one so far seems to have caught it ....I insisted on wearing a mask )........but luckily I had stocked up the freezer, and the friend sent me home with a heap of food ! They have been round since with some water and fruit, etc ...at last feeling a bit better ....was a lovely sunny day today ...hope for the same tomorrow then I can get out for a walk ! Annoyed about losing my holiday and money though !!! Get well soon

Me too, but I thought of offering to do her an online shop.
I have Tesco vouchers
It’s quite difficult getting a Tesco shop in though as they are bagless and she said she can’t lift a tin of soup. I’m quite worried the medical and occupational services in this country are getting so lax re people living alone
I just hope she’s ok. I’m not criticising anyone
Graunty.why were the "NHS
SO MUDDLED " ?????
It's a bit worrying, thinking of someone who can't open a tin of soup.
Yes indeed.

Waitrose will bring the shopping in for you, I think Tesco might too.
I feel uneasy.
I do hope she's feeling better.
Hope you're feeling better. I got sent home from hospital with pneumonia with the added complication that I am disabled husbands carer. I do feel the GP could have given us a ring to check we were surviving. Teenage GS stayed for a few days and I had shopping delivered but it was a nightmare.
Thank you to you all for your support. I think I am feeling a bit better but still coughing which makes all my ribs/chest ache. My husband brought me some ready meals today and some fruit. I managed to warm up half of a ready meal and I really enjoyed it as all I have had since about 18th is soup. Today my heating wouldnt come on so my husband felt confident to top up the water pressure which was the problem. The heating worked and I switched it off and going to put it on in a few hours. Tried to put it on and nothing, looked at the boiler and the water pressure gone totally to nothing again. So feeling a bit stressed but do have gas fire on and electric blanket for bed. But it will feel cold when I go upstairs and they say it is going to get colder. I have contacted a couple of plumbers via text but it is New Years Day so they wont answer. When I saw doc last Friday she said I was to have a chest xray so booked in at the local hospital for Saturday afternoon. I have 4 antibiotics left, 1 tonight, 2 tomorrow then 1 on Friday. I did phone docs on Mon and they said if I wasnt feeling any better by Thurs to ring them. I am thinking that I am feeling a bit better but just worn out from struggling with the illness and just generally functioning. Regarding neighbours, I have done quite a bit for both sides, particularly the lad below who lives with his girlfriend, have taken in parcels, got bins in/out, picked them dishes of strawberries and potted up numerous strawberry plants etc etc, what I am trying to say I am a giving neighbour. Yesterday I rang the lad as I wanted him to put my bin out and I cant believe I asked him, but I did, were they cooking and could do me a small meals on wheels! He said they were going out and hadnt got much in. I didnt realise it was New Years Eve. I shant ask him again for anything. (I believe my husband is on the autistic spectrum and he cannot connect emotionally, often unaware of what their loved ones think or feel and limited empathy for others). (Sorry to go on) Happy New Year x
You sound a little better, even though the coughing is exhausting.
Very glad to hear from you, and I know what you mean, re; neighbours. My next door neighbour sometimes gets really cross and says "why don't you ask me?"
Last time I told her, well, you always say no, and its embarrasing for me.
Hopefully your ex has got it through his head that you do really need some help, but please do phone your gp if you don't feel much better, because the weekends looming.
Just a suggestion : can you afford Agency nurses cone to nurse you as you are too weak to look after yourself ? But of course still phone docs and nhs 111 too.
Should have said..... "Agency nurses to come and nurse you"......
Ahh didn’t think you could catch pneumonia. Lovely you had a friend you could rely on.. good friends are few & far between. Hope you get well soon as 🤗
I’ve had pneumonia twice. It is very debilitating and can be frightening. Best advice I had was to rest as much as possible (as well as taking the meds and keeping up
fluids etc.) Dr threatened hospital if no improvement but fortunately I turned a corner in time. It took quite a while to recover completely. Thinking of you as you persevere with your treatment, and wishing you a speedy return to health💐
Get well soon wintersday and keep posting!
Yes, please do, so we know you're hopefully on the mend.
I think, and I'm not a Dr, that you need to carry on with the antibiotics until you have had your x - ray results. Could you ring the Dr please? they will be in today and tomorrow.
Also, can you sleep downstairs with the fire on for now until your heating is fixed?
