Haemorrhoids

Is that the correct spelling? Just had an operation and have been left with what feels like enormous lumps around my anus. It is expected post op to take laxatives. I’ve done that, prunes, cold water on said area in shower, creams and suppositories. Any other advice anyone can give? In week 5 of recovery of pelvic floor repair.

Haemorrhoids. I find high roughage cereals with oats help keep 'things moving'. I eat sugar free muesli most mornings, sometimes I add fresh fruit or dried cranberries.

I wish you a speedy recovery.thanks

Haemorrhoid Cream eg Anusol
But I'd make a GP appointment.

Allira Thu 13-Feb-25 11:57:21

Ps avoid codeine-based pain relief!

Beetroot is great at ‘getting things moving’ if that’s what you need. Just don’t be alarmed by the resulting colour!
Hope you’re better soon.

If you are eating more fibre it is so important to drink plenty of fluids, tea and coffee can dehydrate you,
If uou take othe medication eg codeine based it will constipate you.

Try not to rush/ or sit too long waiting but try to install a regular time of day.

Keep the area clean around the anus with warm water after each motion

You dony want to be poking things into your bottom too encouragr or moisturise the passage, but check with GP maybe for Lactulose to gently help along

Senna tablets are excellent and a natural product. I use them regularly and have them on prescription.

Poor you !
I recommend sitting in a nice warm bath to which you've added some salt or Epsom salts .
It's healing and soothing .

Thank you all. I’m eating prunes instead of sweets and they seem to be working. And I finished my painkillers 3 weeks ago. So I’m sort of regular but the piles aren’t reducing. Perhaps I aught not to worry and ask when I go for my post op check in April.

FlexibleFriend Thu 13-Feb-25 20:56:17

Only ever had piles once after my first baby and was horrified I put an ice cube on it and held it there as long as I could bear it. Never had a problem since but wouldn't hesitate to resort to ice cubes again that's for sure.

Jane43 Thu 13-Feb-25 21:00:19

I have the same problem from time to time, prune juice and All Bran work for me, and plenty of water. Flexible Friend I will try the ice cube approach next time I have a problem.

Allira Thu 13-Feb-25 21:02:42

I'd say the same as downtoearth, speak to the GP or nurse and ask for Lactulose.

Constipation can cause problems and needs to be sorted out asap, according to the nurse practitioner I spoke to.

I wouldn't wait until then

Allira took the words out of my mouth. April is too far away.

Make an appointment to see your GP. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of fluids.

Just buy a stool softener rather than a laxative. Macrogol powder works very well.

I have had haemorrhoids a couple of times now and found conventional treatments palliative rather than curative. I went to a classical homeopath, used the cream I was given once or twice which shrank the wretched things and kept me clear for about twenty years. Then same again as I kept the pot - it doesn't seem to go out of date - two applications and fixed.

Flax seeds, and not a lot, sprinkled on yoghurt, cereal, indeed on anything help to get things going.Hope all goes well.

HS62 Fri 14-Feb-25 15:28:02

PilgrimQuil. What was the name of the cream you tried. Thankyou.

OldFrill Fri 14-Feb-25 15:31:24

See a GP, it could be a prolapse, or something else entirely.

Marydoll Fri 14-Feb-25 15:37:39

I had a hysterectomy, pelvic floor and bladder repair, but never experienced your problem. It might be better to speak to someone about it.

Luckygirl3 Fri 14-Feb-25 15:46:44

Keep the traffic friendly was the advice I was given! You seem to be on top of that.

I would also recommend standing in the shower and squirting the shower head at the relevant region - ecstasy!

In a small pot, boil up thick slices of fresh ginger about 4 inches worth and water. The water will turn brownish in colour, let it cool add a couple of teaspoons of honey if you like. Every morning put a couple of slices of fresh ginger in a cup of hot water add a teaspoon of fresh lemon - keeps everything regular.

Mumonamission Fri 14-Feb-25 16:39:16

Sorry my first post - should have previewed the message. The first part was for a constipation reliever, once you have boiled it for about 10 mins, cool it, and drink about a 1/4 of a cup.

The second is a cup of hot/boiling water with lemon juice and fresh ginger thrown in for every day maintenance.

I have these horrible things! I am lucky that they don't hurt too much but they are uncomfortable and I am aware they are there.

I have to take tablets every day that constipate me terribly (so sorry for tmi) and they result from the amount of time I have to spend sitting on the toilet. blush

Hope this makes you laugh but I did once try to have a look back there with a mirror to see what the issue was - not an easy position to get into! smile

Thisismyname1953 Fri 14-Feb-25 22:52:20

Years ago when I started nursing , a doctor told me a really easy way to spell haemorrhoids , say to yourself that it is “really really horrible” in the middle of the word
