Hello everyone. New here. Just found you all.
Anyway, I'm having a major panic over the first mammogram recall ever. All others have been fine until this one.
I'm 78. I have nothing I can see or feel but the anxiety levels are off the charts.
Anyone else having or had this ?
Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received.

Thank you everyone. It really helps to know I'm not the only one having anxiety issues. Of course the letter turned up on a Saturday and the appointment eleven days away. I go on Wednesday.

Well I won't tell you not to worry, when I had a recall a few years ago I got myself in a right panic! All was fine though as many others have said. It was the tiniest cyst imaginable, they took a biopsy on the day. Looking back I have to admit to being thankful we have such services even if it didn't feel like it at the time! Good luck, sending hugs xx

I’ve had a leaky nipple too. TG it was a cyst.

I'm 76. Three years ago I was (unknowingly) chosen at random to have a mammogram after the age of 70, as part of a test group in my area. It showed an abnormality and I was recalled. I had another mammogram, an examination by a consultant and then a biopsy. After four worrying days, I was notified that all was well.
All that I could think was that I was so grateful to have been selected, as if anything had been amiss, it would have been caught early, and treatable...
I've put a reminder on my calendar to book a mammogram every three years - and I would urge everyone over the age of 70 to do so. My last one came back clear, so fingers crossed for this years' in November..😃😞

I got a letter on a Thursday asking me to go back on the Monday morning. I worried all weekend and it turned out to be a cyst which they drained there and then.

I had a recall in the summer of 2021 at the age of 76. They found a small cancer which would have only been detected by mammogram. I had an operation (lumpectomy) to remove it, a course of radiotherapy and have had three clear mammograms since. I am eternally grateful that they found it and dealt with it and everyone was very kind. Even if your recall does prove to be about a lump and even if it IS cancer, it is not the end of the world and really nothing to worry about. I hope you get good news one way or another. Do try not to panic.

The whole point of a mammogram is to catch ANYTHING super early…. Before you can see/feel any lumps or abnormalities…try not to worry, practically impossible I know but be thankful someone has spotted something meriting a recall, fingers crossed it will be a simple fix… or indeed no further treatment required… all fingers and toes crossed for you..😘

Like others I had a recall - several years ago now - I was absolutely terrified. Had loads of x-rays, found it was a cyst, they drained it there and then - no problems since after about regular mammograms, the most recent about 7/8 weeks ago with all clear. It is still concerning though thinking there might be another one but it's fine.

Btw, My cyst had to be removed and biopsied….was all good.

I've had recalls. All no problem.

Apparently, sometimes it's difficult to flatten all the tissue correctly. It surely felt flattened - but there were "folds" in the picture.

I also had a recall many years ago and it was fine. I understand your worry and I hope you are reassured very soon.

I hope your appointment on Wednesday goes well Lemonnutmeg.
I often get a recall - broken blood vessel, duct ectasia - there are so many reasons. 🤞 for you.

Have twice had recall, then biopsies, but all well both times.

I had a recall whilst on holiday so I thought it must be serious and worried away until we got home. Turned out the machine was faulty so it was all for nothing. Wished they’d have had the nous to tell me. Here they only do them up to age 74 unless you have had an issue.

Good luck for Wednesday.
Just be glad , if anything is found how much better your chances are.
I had a recall and a small cancer was found, I had radiotherapy and tablets for several years. I feel very lucky it was found so early, this was 20YEARS ago .
Best wishes Minho

I had a form of breast cancer called a lobular carcinoma it was jelly like in consistency and very hard to detect because there was nothing to see of feel I had two ops and lymph nodes removed chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
I have just had my 2nd all clear mammogram. Like everyone has said try not to worry and good luck for Wednesday.

I had a recall last year, turned out to be cancerous lump, requiring lumpectomy. All dealt with quickly, decided against radiology, but the follow on hormone therapy I am struggling with. I consider myself lucky the lump was found and dealt with, as I wasn't aware of symptoms. Good luck with your outcome.

My friend at college years ago had a lump in her breast. It turned out to be a cyst. She told me it was the 5th time she'd had one. Not every lump they find is cancer. Hope all goes well for you OP.

Yes and I felt just like you. When I got to the clinic someone looked at my mammogram and rather than say no it’s nothing (as they often do) I had to have a biopsy. I was so convinced I had cancer my mind was whirring with what I was going to do about my adult son with autism! It all came back fine, they usually do.

I know how you are feeling. I had a recall, yes, I did have cancer, a DCIS. The doctor told me that without the mammogram I would have not felt a lump for another three years by which time it would have spread. As it was I was able to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and chemo in tablet form for five years. That was over fifteen years ago. Yes, it's scary when you get that recall but that mammogram might just be the thing that saves your life.

Hello everyone. I had several mammograms, ultra scan and biopsies taken. So now the wait and anxiety.
Anyone else waiting for their results?

Lemonnutmeg Mon 03-Mar-25 14:20:03

Anyone waiting for biopsy results.
My anxiety is frightening

icanhandthemback Mon 03-Mar-25 15:11:52

No but I can understand how anxious you feel. In this sort of situation I find keeping as busy as possible. I took up a new hobby whilst waiting for my test results. I researched it and threw myself into it until the results came through. I think the only thing you can do is find a strategy which works for you. 💐
